In addition to COVID-19, 2020 was an historic year for civil rights movements like Black Lives Matter. Yet, because they take place in the same year, COVID certainly affected how protests were organised. This photo is especially powerful because, by attending these protests, people were more likely to get COVID-19. These protesters chose the safety of the Black community over the safety of themselves. So, not only were there massive waves of protests to end anti-Black racism, but these protests were undertaken with the knowledge that protesters could more easily contract the virus.
