The school system, the nation’s largest, has had strikingly few coronavirus cases. Even so, the mayor may end in-person classes because the city’s overall rate is surging.

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot announced on Thursday that the city is issuing a 30-day COVID-19 stay-at-home advisory that will begin on Monday, November 16. The mayor also asked residents to “cancel traditional Thanksgiving plans” and stay indoors as cases continue to rise in the city.

The US literally cannot determine which state has the worst COVID infections because it's all just bad.

California became the second state to reach one million known COVID-19 cases on Thursday. On Wednesday, Texas became the first state to reach this milestone. The US in total has surpassed 10 million infections.

Earlier in the year, Minneapolis was one of the first locations to start crying, "Defund the Police..." Now after a long year of protests and riots and all other types of struggles, the city realizes that those they had previously seen as the enemy, the source of the problem were actually the ones holding back the tide and now they see how much the police are really needed.

Throughout the year, Law Enforcement has been under the microscope, more so than every before. With all the negative attention being heaped on officers, police, troopers, and deputies, it can be hard to remember that they too are being affected by this pandemic and that no one is safe or immune. This is likely the hardest sport to manage when it comes to COVID-19. considering each team has over 50-60 players on the roster + the insane amount of coaches and player personnel. Multiple teams have had to cancel games, and the situation is continuously adapting.

The NBA restart date is set Dec 22. The NBA playoff bubble was the most successful example of a sports handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. They shut down quickly and then created a lockdown bubble to handle the playoffs. I wonder if the NBA will be able to handle a whole season as effectively as they handled the playoffs.

There are many older people who don't really have family connections in the world. It's interesting to see cases of people who were living in adult care facilities and contracted Covid. They end up in the hospital to be treated but then there is nowhere to send them after. It's interesting to see stories like this and I wonder how it will end for Ms. Nagendramma.

As someone who is patiently waiting for this dismal lockdown to end so I can get on with my life this is good news. Hopefully, things will clear up so I can actually go and visit my fiance. I wonder who all will take the vaccine though, or if visitors will be forced to take it.

As with almost everything, COVID-19 has affected funerals. We hear about those that die and the funerals that are held but, we don't hear about how not being able to travel has affected the grieving process. Photography student Jacob Moscovitch's grandmother passed away in April and his family was unable to attend the funeral in Israel. He decided to photography his mother's grieving process as a way to heal.

Traditionally, during the month of October, artists from all corners of the internet come around to do something called Inktober. When Inktober's creator was shown stealing other's arts for profit (especially from people of color), people decided to create a new art theme for the month, #Blacktober, in honor of the black artists who are heavily underrepresented in the community turning well-known characters in media in portrayals of if they were a person of color.

While popular within Canada, the border closure between the two countries has undoubtedly hurt businesses in both. Especially in border communities that are undeniably linked.

A medical lab technologist in New York City has started making art out of biohazard labels. He calls his art "The Biohazard Collection" and plans to donate it to the New-York Historical Society.

These cards were sent to the Phoenix Police Department by children to thank them for keeping their community safe. Its nice to see that there is still a lot of support for officers. Law Enforcement is a hard job and sometimes it can be hard to remember that people still care about and support those who protect and serve.

This is a small article I came across while browsing on Facebook. All to common these days are depressing, sad, aggravating messages and stories, so coming across a positive story was particularly exciting. Thank you to all those officers who provided help and comfort to that little boy!

“The prevalence of COVID-19 in the state is increasing, and North Dakota's recent surge in COVID-19 cases and deaths is becoming unmanageable. As of Friday, Nov. 6, almost 10,000 North Dakotans are known to be infected with the virus, 613 people have died either due to or with COVID-19 and the state's 14-day average positivity rate on all tests has nearly doubled in one month…North Dakota is performing the worst in the United States with the highest death rate and positive case rate per 100,000 people, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.” North Dakota is struggling with its surge in cases. The military base that my family and I live on has gone back into HPCON-C (Health Protection Condition- Charlie), which basically means the base is at the level of lockdown that we faced in the beginning of the pandemic. While travel has been discouraged for everyone during the pandemic, military members have had actual movement restrictions put on them, meaning that we haven't seen our family since last year and probably won't be able to again until at least summer of 2021. We were lucky enough to travel to South Dakota for a quick getaway before the fall semester started again, but our trip was cut short due to the spikes in cases in South Dakota.

After the George Floyd murder, citizens in Minot, ND put together a protest and vigil for Mr. Floyd at Oak Park in Minot, ND. Minneapolis is a mere eight hours from Minot and there were many people affected by Floyds murder in North Dakota.

I am submitting it because I thought it was a good meme that tells a lot not only about what is currently happening in the world but also peoples attitudes at the time.

This picture resonated with me a little bit more than others I looked at because none of the kids in the pictures seem particularly happy. Most times graduation is the happiest day for a teen, but Covid-19 is making sure students are getting a shockingly different school experience this year.

I liked this photo because it reminded me of my sister and her friends taking pictures after their graduations with their masks and diplomas like the girl depicted here is.

Both my sister and my husband had 2020 graduations so I experienced them well firsthand. That being said, when I read this article I thought it was very well written, and that the stories in it were relatable and a good representation.

During the protests a few months back, I remember seeing this picture spread all around twitter uncensored and I remember thinking “these kids are going to be arrested because no one is protecting them’. And so I felt it was only fitting that this be the photo I choose for this assignment.

Restaurants were closed for dine-in service for several weeks due to the coronavirus, with some of those doors remaining closed permanently. Restaurant staff all over the world worked tirelessly to clean, sanitize, and prepare for a new "normal" as far as dining out goes. Seeing posts like this for your favorite restaurants opening back up was a small glimpse of normalcy the world had missed for months.

This story talks about the proclivity for families to stay home even as schools begin gearing up to have classes transition back into the classroom, out of fear for COVID.

In May during many riots in America, Des Moines, Iowa, had its share of violence. Over the course of a weekend the peaceful protests taking place at the time turned violent. According to different news programs and live videos on social media, they were trying to use minimal force and get things peaceful again. After there was a lot sit down talks with the protesters and the government. Many businesses were damaged, but there were also a lot of peaceful protests at the same time.

After a lot of protests, the protesters and the government in Des Moines, Iowa sat down and talked things out. As of today they seem to still be trying to work things out, but I am not sure. I do know that they sat down with each other several times.

A friend whose child recently beat cancer started the Teddy Bear Foundation this last summer. He reads to children in both English and Spanish. Since he is no longer able to do so in person, he started a YouTube channel in order to read stories to children suffering from cancer.

After the protests turned violent cooled down in Des Moines, Iowa, there was still a lot of anger. One group decided to vandalize this cop car to send a message to the public/media. This is a picture from a social media post of the cop car.

SImply leaving my home felt like I was risking my life this summer, but sometimes your sanity is worth some risk. Here is one of the websites I utilized to determine the risk factors into any activity. Due to being high risk, I would make sure to choose low risk activities such as walking outside.

It was our first time doing something as a family outside the house after the pandemic reached the U.S. Since my daughter is a cancer survivor, we have to be extra careful.

A friend, who is to remain anonymous but offered a photo, lives in Washington D.C. and attended a BLM protest there. I asked her to share her experiences. “it probably didn’t move the needle anywhere, but I’m glad I went. The energy and atmosphere were... it’s hard for me to describe. After the sun went down it felt like a street fair, a party. During the day it was passion. The whole time there was a strong feel of togetherness”
