NOTE: The following replica was not created by me but a few friends of mine. They gave me a tour and permission for some of my other friends to use this map for a Spanish Oral. This particular snap of this area is the same area my friends and I hanged out during lunch. Since a month and more has passed in quarantine, it was inevitable that I would dearly miss it. So when I joined my friend's server spawned at the school entrance, I was hit by a wave of pure nostalgia. I tried recreating the routes I got to classes. Not everything was exactly recreated perfectly, though I can still remember those areas by heart. As impressive and nostalgic it was, it showed that there could be potential in using virtual sandboxes to recreate real life facilities. Just imagine if Garden Grove High School required us to run Minecraft in order to go to school.

This painting on a polaroid was made on March 21st, it was the first time in awhile that I had finally gotten some free time. I had always had a passion for artsy activities although I was never good at them. I looked around my desk and found a ruined polaroid laying around so I thought I’d turn it into something pretty. When quarantined, I had a lot of time to think about what I wanted to do when I got the chance to be out in the world freely again. I had wanted to see the cherry blossoms and maybe one day rack up enough money to travel to Japan and experience that. But with a lot of time on my hands and my sudden interest to paint at 10 at night, I grabbed my paint and brushed and started to paint the things I loved. This COVID-19 experience has opened my eyes to the goals I want to achieve as well as hobbies I want to experience, but of course I miss what I had before this pandemic, which is my friends and fresh air.

This is the assignment given to my high school juniors at GGHS in Southern California to facilitate their interactions with the archive. Friday the 13th has always been a superstition people believed in. I never really did until this year. It was the last day of the school year and the first day of true panic world wide. School was cancelled without warning and no one knew that that would be the last day we ever saw each other in the same setting.

I spent a lot of time in that place, you could say it kind of became a reality. Basically being stuck at home and working laboriously on schoolwork and studying for online exams such as the AP tests. The work only stops on the weekend where I can finally relax and do whatever I want. Once the weekend ends it's back to the endless labor and tiresome assignments that keep being piled on top of each other.

This image is from a recording that I did for an assignment in my Spanish class. We used Minecraft to show a "real-life" conversation between students in Garden Grove High. This image is important to me because it shows the problems and the workarounds that emerge with the COVID 19 situation.

Coronavirus has affected everyone in some type of way. This meme accurately represents how many people feel about this year so far, and how it has been a not so great start to a new decade. Covid-19 has taken away many opportunities and places limitations on what we can and cannot do. Personally, coronavirus has prevented me from traveling this year, as I have canceled multiple trips to abide by CDC guidelines and safety precautions. While I was looking forward to traveling this year, I know it’s important to stay inside to keep myself and others safe during this time.

This meme resembles how COVID-19 can really be a very communicable disease. The fact that even being near someone who we love dearly can cause spread is already scary, and that we must try as much as possible to minimize the cause. To me, I want to stay home as much as possible to lower the spread of the virus, but at the same time I miss my loved ones and my friends. This meme may not seem important, but in reality it does show the tensions in society about how COVID-19 is affecting all of our lives.

The pandemic is obviously a bad thing. However, there have been a little bit of good that has come out of it. For example, many people now have the time to revisit and develop hobbies that they previously never had time for before the pandemic. Perhaps, they've even picked up new ones. For me, I got the chance to improve my photography and editing. I couldn't shoot people for obvious reasons, so I took my car out instead! The quarantine has definitely given myself and many others a chance to invest more time into the hobbies that we enjoy doing.

This photograph was taken as Garden Grove High School began to go into lockdown and at the time, students and even teachers did not take the situation very seriously. We jokingly said that “The school would never shut down over this! Yeah right!” I took this picture and posted it onto social media captioning it “pSa: donT tOuCh yOur FacE #coronavirus” using the capital and lower case letters to emphasize my sarcasm. As time went by I began to understand the severity of the problem at hand and took it more seriously. It just goes to show how fast the pandemic evolved from something that we heard about that was happening across the globe to affecting us and the tens of millions of people worldwide.

This was found on a website called talent recap.com, “Hate Crimes and Racist Assaults Against Asians In American Escalates due to Coronavirus”. It introduces the viewers to several events that had happened during the coronavirus and how many asian descents are discriminated for “being the cause of the coronavirus”. During this pandemic I have noticed how so many people are being assaulted from other ignorant people about how they started this virus and that they should be tortured or blamed for the things that has happened. This is important to me because one time when I was in public with my sister to get some groceries, we came with gloves and masks on because we know we have a weak immune system and we also tend to get sick easily so we came protected, but when we went in the meat isle to get steak, a couple was standing there with no gloves on or masks stared at us and walked by saying “Go back to your homeland you chink” while i was speaking in Vietnamese to my mom. I was so angry at that time but I remained calm because we were in public at that time, however it angers me that in events like the one on the website shows how a father and his kids were attacked, in this case stabbed, because they were asians that were seen in public. And it sucks that so many innocent asian people are harmed so much because of others being prejudice based on their ancestry of being an Asian.

This entry focuses on the transition to online learning in order to practice social distancing. Prior to the pandemic, I would have to wake up early to go to school. Then, I'd quickly run home after school, so that I would be punctual to my guitar lesson. As the tide has turned, this is no longer my reality. Now, I do online schooling and guitar lessons within the comfort of my own room, at any hour of the day. An hour of light-hearted life chats, bluesy riffs, and all sorts of musical banter relieves my good friend, guitar teacher, and myself of our quarantine blues. This is us, this is our quarantine lyfe.

A couple of years ago, I decided to paint a picture of the ocean because of how much I admired its beauty, realizing how lucky I was to be able to visit it in person anytime I liked as it was only a mere twenty minutes away. I would have never thought two years later in 2020 a global pandemic would occur and take away this joy in my life, keeping everyone all cooped up in their homes in hopes of slowing the spread of COVID-19. While it was hard to have to leave school in the middle of junior year, adjust to online AP exams, depart from teachers and friends, stop playing sports, and so much more, I know social distancing is a necessity during this difficult time. I understand this pandemic has changed many of our lives quite negatively as we have to isolate ourselves and sacrifice going out to have fun and socialize; however that does not mean people should flood the beaches or malls out of spite or as part of a protest against the government's orders. Though I wish I could go outside to an amusement park or beach with my family and friends, I know what's more important is respecting all the essential workers by staying home, and I hope more people are able to understand this bigger picture as well.

Many students have been impacted by the Coronavirus due to the continuation of school online. They aren't able to interact with teachers and their fellow classmates, leaving them unmotivated to do their classwork. I personally dislike the idea of online school since I'm not really learning anything and just want to get the work over with so I can just relax. Nothing is going through my head, leaving me clueless and unprepared for next year. When there are tests, I tend to have to refer back to my notes due to not being able to understand the concepts. AP tests are also very unfair due to the various prompts with different levels of difficulties. The Coronavirus also impacts my future school life due to the fear of not being able to return back to school. College systems are also changing amidst this epidemic such as phasing out the SAT and ACT throughout the years. This virus has a big and negative impact on our education. #OnlineSchool #GGHSAPUSH

My friends and I, went to visit our teacher down near the beach, there we also went to witness stupidity and people who we thought were only seen on the news and on the other side of America. In a safe, masked drive by, we saw maskless protesters flaunting their maga flags and hats, ignoring social guidelines, and protesting about not being able to get their haircuts and go to work. We witness stupidity and ignorance.

On Friday the 13th of March 2020, Garden Grove High School's Orchestra program was set for their 2nd festival of the season. We were supposed to leave school at 1:30pm and bus all the way to Beckman High School in Irvine, California, 30 minutes away. But of course, Friday the 13th was a bad omen, and it was no exception this time. The festival was cancelled the morning of, at 8am. Once we were told so, anyone in our classroom would tell you that a gust of sadness engulfed the room. We had worked endlessly since August for our short performance but it was all gone to waste. 8 hours later, at 4pm while I was at Track practice, everyone got the news that school would be cancelled for a month. By then, our concert season would only be halfway through so we were hopeful. Unfortunately, school had been cancelled until the end of the school year and our performing arts program will, no doubt, be suffering in the aftermath of this pandemic. Friday the 13th really is a bad sign.

Every quarter, our Vietnamese teacher assigns us a project where we must film a video based on a topic we learned during that specific quarter. Normally, we would meet up in person to film the video, but when the pandemic became more severe and stay-at-home orders were put in place, we had to be more creative with how we filmed. Unable to meet up in person, we resorted to Minecraft in order to film our 3rd Quarter video, which was based on a Vietnamese novel we read in class. #GGHSAPUSH #distancelearning

When in quarantine, you try to find anything to do to keep yourself occupied considering were not allowed to see any friends or go out. Online school takes up a good portion of the day starting at 9 but really depending on when your teachers post the school work. Working on the computer a lot can strain your eyes so it's best to take a break to do something else once in a while. Now is a great time to learn new talents like baking, cooking, practicing a sport, singing, drawing, etc. Journaling has been a great way for me to just relax and express what I'm feeling. Whether it's just drawing simple lettering, looking at ideas on Pinterest, or even coming up with my own ideas and trying to challenge myself. It's sometimes best to not spend all your time sitting on your phone and watching TV the entire day. Also, there is now more time to spend and bond with your family which is always nice to do. Quarantine has really given us the time to remember to never take things for granted and to always live in the moment.
