This photo was taken in Oakland, California and includes two police offices wearing face masks in order to protect themselves from the coronavirus and other airborne things that may be detrimental to them. Although there is a pandemic going on the police must continue serving the community. Many would argue that the police are not giving enough resources or materials to continue to do so effectively.

This photograph was taken at a local Walmart in Williamsburg, Virginia. This Walmart ran out of toilet paper and the store was struggling to restock the toilet paper. This photo is an example of "panic buying." As the number of confirmed cases in Williamsburg increases more people are stocking up on supplies.

As the Covid-19 virus comes closer to reaching its expected peak, more and more of New York State is shutting down. For almost everyone, the economy is the most impactful result of this virus, with many workers now out of work. My entry is going to reflect on how the Covid-19 virus is impacting students in higher education.
I am currently a sophomore at Siena College in Albany, New York studying history education, but might be switching to business. During our spring break, we received an email from the interim president that our break would be extended for an additional week as the school continued to monitor the virus. A few days later, we received another email from our interim president stating that our classes would be moved online until after Easter break. SUNY schools had moved online for the remainder of the semester weeks prior and most of the private schools had also made the decision to move online were slowing following. Siena College, on the other hand, decided to wait it out as long as possible, but on Friday, March, 27th, we received the email stating Siena College would now be closed for the remainder of the semester. Typical days for students and professors now seems to be uploading assignments on Canvas, a program that we had used previously, and conducting classes online via Zoom and Google Hangout. While this type of learning is not ideal, it will have to do as we continue to hope that this pandemic comes to an end.

As a student I have suffered a lack of motivation and a difficulty focusing. Receiving a flood of emails from both professors and school administration was overwhelming. Having started online learning for classes that I had originally had in person I have lost hope in effectively learning and now I'm just hoping to pass my classes. All of my classes have reorganized and changed their assignments putting leaving me unprepared for these new tasks. The office I intern at also closed so as of now I'm also out of work. The combination of not being at work and being schooled at home leave me with many distractions that make it difficult to focus on anything really.

Last week, on March 11th, NYU went online, and as it sent its students away on spring break telling them they'd return to online instruction. But, things have shifted so rapidly. On Monday NYU announced that students had to vacate the dorms. Families scrambled, including ours, to help our students cope and to handle the most mundane. Today, quite unexpectedly, my daughter says goodbye to her home and her first year of college. Not the way we expected the semester to go. Poignant. Painful. For all of us.

I was on the community college campus I work at for meetings on how i will teach the remainder of the semester online. No students have been on campus since before Spring Break. On Monday it was supposed to be a return to our normal class schedule, but instead it was empty.
The only people on campus were some faculty and staff. There are normally college students walking to classes, or sitting on benches. Some eat lunch on the tables, or read. It was sad to see the campus so quiet and empty. No lectures were heard walking by classroom. No students sitting in the sitting area waiting for their next class.
Nothing is normal right now and we are doing our best to keep going. My concern is mostly for the students with limited resources. Will all their hard work for half the semester be wasted?
