Text (Omeka Classic)

To be honest; I am a technological dinosaur. Set to retire next year, I feel as through I have been plunged under the gates of a broken dam-only able to come up for gasps of breath. To be sure I have through the years, attended multiple technological/digital learning PDs; adopted online resources; set up google classrooms and online grading etc., etc. etc. Perhaps it is my content-social studies- that add to my concerns over virtual learning; the "social" part. I cannot see the questions in their eyes or feel the frustrations of students through a computer screen. Although not impossible, the sheer numbers of different student needs makes differentiation overwhelming (where as, wandering around a classroom I can often sense confusion and stop for one-on -one). Yes, the one-on-one can be done over a computer screen, but gone is the pat on the back or hand that provides a physical "it's OK -we got this" to a struggling student. As I type, me--the old witch teacher, the one students fear at the beginning of the year, is crying. I have no idea if I am truly meeting students needs because I have no idea who is truly doing the assignments. I am pounded by constant technological options to DO THIS, TRY THAT every time I open my school emails. I hear parents complaining to the world and I understand. We are all building the airplane as we fly and many mistakes are being made. After my first full week of teaching NEW material online -I am exhausted, mentally and physically. Yesterday afternoon I took a 2 hour nap before supper; then feel asleep sitting on the sofa for about 4 hours before getting up and going to bed for 8 hours--14 hours and in a panic at 7am this morning because I could not find the correct link to have "breakfast" with my students. I am trying parents, educational administrators, government officials; I am trying, I am trying...
