WEDNESDAY, APRIL 8
I have a knot in the middle of my chest that sometimes makes it hard to breathe. At first I wondered if it might be COVID-19, but I’m sure it isn’t. I think it’s a knot of grief for all the people with the virus who are suffering and dying, all the health personnel who have devoted themselves to the care of people and who have contracted the virus themselves. It’s a knot of sadness that won’t leave, even when I breathe deeply, or when I stretch my arms back in every position I can think of, trying to expand my lungs and finally get a full breath of air. Unlike those people with the virus. I don’t have the virus but I carry my own heavy knot, in the center of my chest, reminding me every minute what is happening in the world.
