A College Student Fast Food Worker

Title (Dublin Core)

A College Student Fast Food Worker

Description (Dublin Core)

A personal account of a fast-food worker.
I work at a fast food restaurant. I applied at the beginning of 2020 and got the job within the first week. I didn’t think much about the importance of the job and I only needed it for money and to save a little extra while i’m in college. I first heard the name of the virus around the end of January. I honestly didn’t think much of the virus, and at the time , I didn’t think it was that big of a deal. As time went on I started to hear more and more about the virus. Work and school life had not changed yet so I was still under the impression that it was not a big deal. It wasn’t until March that changes started to hit. I went to work per usual and was a little bit confused when I saw the new restaurant format. The dining area was closed, we had to wear gloves and a mask at all times, and there was a limit of 10 people in the building. The environment of my workplace was an eye opener to how serious the virus actually is. Had I not had this small fast food job, I would not have taken the safety precautions as seriously as I do right now. I feel angry that people are still crowding in line to order at the fast food place, I feel scared for my safety with every interaction. I especially feel undeserving when someone thanks me for working during these times. I’m just a fast food worker, but seeing how desperate people are becoming for instant meals makes me feel like I am somewhat helping my area survive.
