An account of a Neonatal nurse during COVID
My Aunt works in the covid19 unit as a nurse helping tend to the sick, today is her birthday. Instead of getting to celebrate with family she will be working a 13 hour shift at the hospital. To celebrate her birthday my mom and her had plans to go on a cruise to the Bahamas. With that cancelled she says all she really wants to do is to go spend time with her 6month old grandson for her birthday. Before the virus my aunt had been working in Neonatal care unit of the hospital, at the beginning of the pandemic she was quickly moved over to help with Covid19 patients. Instead of celebrating her birthday, all she has time for is for me to send a quick text telling her happy birthday, to stay safe, and that I miss her.Less than a month ago, in early March, I was able to celebrate my birthday with all my friends and family. It is still a little bit jarring to see how quickly things have changed.
