Speaker 1 00:00
How has COVID-19 affected your faith or beliefs?

Speaker 2 00:03
COVID-19 hasn’t affected my faith in the negative way, but it does make you think about stories that we read in the Bible where God has sent us, you know, I feel like maybe God is trying to send us a message, you know, for us to open our eyes to, you know, with things going around in the world. It does it, does want to make me think.

Speaker 1 00:38
Is your religious community still gathering currently?

Speaker 2 00:43
Our local church that is not holding masses, since I think it's been about almost six weeks or maybe longer. You know, it would be too dangerous for families, the community spread the disease, no, they're not holding masses.

Speaker 1 01:02
How has COVID-19 affected your participation in your religious community?

Speaker 2 01:10
We are the, the Catholic Diocese in our area, in this region, does hold masses through social media, or they communicate messages to our communities so that we can participate in prayer and even the Pope, sometimes they send messages for national prayers at a specific time. So, you know, when, when I'm not working, because I work, I have an eight hour job, when I'm not working sometimes I participate in that, that prayer or the rosary or whatever, you know, they're spreading the message through social media.

Speaker 1 01:57
Is your religious community supplying or engaged any kind of community service in an attempt to help alleviate issues caused by the pandemic? And if so, what are those efforts?

Speaker 2 02:08
The Catholic Diocese of Brownsville has what's called the “Catholic Charities” and they do help people in the community to help pay for their electricity bills. They also hold, you know, drive throughs to where people can come pick up meals if people who are in need. And they also provide packages of food for people to just drive through and pick them up so that, you know, nobody needs to get off and go into a building. They just they have the drive throughs and participates in that way.

Speaker 1 02:50
And that will conduct our interview. I want to thank you for allowing me to interview you and having us upload this recording to the ASU COVID-19 archive project. Thank you.
