Be Smart Stay 6 Feet Apart
This sign in Frick Park, which is a local park near my house, reminds people to stay 6 feet apart from each other. It can be easy to forget this rule, especially in a park where we have always tended to assume that we have lots of space, but these signs are located every dozen or so meters to remind people. There is a big surge in the need to go outside to exercise or just to be in nature, but in these times, we have to be smart about how we go about it. \ -

Paint by Numbers
This image shows an incomplete paint by numbers that is depicting a French cafe. During a time of boredom and anxiety, artistic outlets such as this one provides comfort and distraction. I bought this paint by numbers to alleviate my boredom and to give me an excuse to step away from my family if I needed alone time. I bought this project when I knew I’d be in quarantine for more than two weeks. This complex painting allows me to not think about the scariness of the news and helps calm my anxiety about the current state of affairs. -

Domestic Violence Works From Home
As the stay at home order across Illinois continues to extend as we reach the second month in quarantine, many have been trapped in unsafe situations with those they share a residence with. Domestic violence works from home, people have lost their small escape for the day. Neighborhoods in Chicago and across the city have been helping others get out of stressful situations by providing discreet messaging templates that often provide the survivor to offer their address so police could be called or for the survivor to be picked up. Recently, Chicago mayor, Lorilightfoot has also launched her plan to help by training local domestic violence hotline phone operators to give out promo codes so survivors can be driven to a safe location by a rideshare driver for free. #DePaulHST391 -

Feeding the Neighborhood
COVID-19 has been particularly hard for Chicago’s homeless. My auntie and I tried to help out on the West Side, by making turkey and Italian beef and serving them. We also provided kits to individuals, so they could use them to feed their families. #DePaulHST391 -

Goodbye Basketball
Since the COVID-19 pandemic many businesses and housing facilities have closed common areas to promote social distancing. Since March many residents have not followed through with the warnings and now landlords and managers have taken measures to keep people from gathering such as at One North Apartments, a University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign student housing facility where they have taken the hoops off the basketball rims #DePaulHST391.
