Stop the Spread
St. Mary's University made some major changes in preparations for the return of students and staff on campus for this Fall semester of 2021. Signs posted as a reminder to wear your masks and new hand sanitizing stations have eased the fear of Covid potentially outbreaking in the university. Updates on their website have helped students and staff keep updated on new rules to prevent the spread and habits that we can maintain to keep everyone healthy and safe. -

Mom's Homemade Masks
This is an image of the workspace my mom and sister have been working at while creating masks for our family to wear. My sister has also sold a few to coworkers in our school district. This image shows how important masks are in order to stop spreading germs. Wearing a mask is extremely important when going out in public in order to protect yourself and others from COVID-19. My family has made several different kinds of masks. They have made different themed ones, such as Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s, as well as generic ones. They have made different styles, like the pleated surgical-style ones in this photo in addition to the Olson style masks. They have also created different sizes, for the adults in our family and smaller ones for my four nieces. This photo is important to me because it has been very difficult for my siblings to find masks at stores that will fit on kids ages 1-4. They are also more inclined to want to wear a mask because it is something special that my mom has made for them in patterns that they love, like animal, Disney, and holiday prints. I don’t think there is a lot of information out there about parents with young children who are growing up in the time of a pandemic. It can be difficult to leave the house some days to do something as simple as grocery shopping, because kids like to touch everything and don’t always cooperate when wearing a mask. One of the biggest struggles I’ve heard my sister talk about as an elementary school teacher is trying to get her students to keep their masks on. It's really important for people to understand these struggles and help each other out while in the midst of a pandemic. -

Jewish Melbourne: Chevra Hatzolah 'Beyond the Crisis' fundraiser
Facebook post thanking people for their contribution to the Chevra Hatzolah 'Beyond the Crisis' fundraiser. The post says: "During the Pandemic, Hatzolah’s focus has been directed at continuing our emergency response, Responder and patient safety, and community education through online media. Working together with community groups such as the Covid-19 Taskforce, CSG and Ambulance Victoria, keeping our community safe was the primary objective. However we also incurred huge expenses and needed to replenish funds used to purchase large volumes of expensive PPE, and still have enough for us to emerge and grow Beyond the Crisis. All of us at Hatzolah Melbourne have been humbled by the outpouring of moral and financial support during the “Beyond the Crisis” campaign, and express our sincere thanks to the community. In spite of the financial strains being felt across the board, the community has shown us incredible support and we are extremely grateful. We wish everyone good health, and look forward to continuing to serve the community, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week." -

Jewish Melbourne: 'Chevra Hatzolah message to Wear a Mask'
facebook post by Chevra Hatzolah encouraging people to wear masks: ""Wear a mask. It's not too much to ask." - Daniel Andrews. Premier of Victoria Wearing a face covering helps keep you and others safe. Coronavirus (COVID-19) is spread from close contact with a person with COVID-19. Face coverings help stop droplets spreading when someone speaks, laughs, coughs, or sneezes, including someone who has COVID-19 but feels well. The best way to protect other people against COVID-19 is keeping 1.5 metres apart, wash your hands often, and cough or sneeze into your elbow or tissue. Face coverings add an additional protective physical barrier to protect you and your loved ones. And if you have symptoms – get tested. Jewish Melbourne: making masks as a fundraiser for Chevra Hatzolah
This is a facebook post by Chevra Hatzolah, including a photo and the words: "Frances Spanger (known to many of us as "Granny") began making masks at the beginning of COVID-19 for all her friends. She gets up at 5am every morning and works hard making masks for the community. In just one month, she has raised $500 which she decided to donate to Hatzolah. Thank you Frances for the incredible work that you are doing to keep our community safe. We are all very grateful." -

Stuck At Home
Like many others, quarantine has dramatically shifted everyday lives from enjoying the virtues of going out to having to stay at home to prevent the spread of the virus. Personally, I am very anxious and tired of having to stay at home every single day, hoping that everything returns to normal so I can go out with my friends and go to school. But, I realized during the early stages of quarantine, that I should be contributing to help keep out country safe by staying at home. Everyday I am saddened that many of the hobbies and everyday activities I used to enjoy are now unreachable. Many things that I anticipated such as my sport's season, getting my driver's license (my behind the wheel appointment was cancelled), and spending time with friends have been taken away from me. However, there are many of those who do not think the same as me, and find themselves going out leisurely without a care for what is going on. Many of these people believe that this virus is a myth, and if not they are people who are selfish and only care for their own pleasure. This meme I attached to this story is a great depiction of what is going on; people are continuing to go out even though there are plenty reasons they should not be. With people continuously going out for unjustifiable reasons, the virus will never seize to spread. Everyone's lives are affected by this virus, whether it be families witnessing loved ones dying, being unable to pay off bills and rent due to the loss or discontinuation of jobs, and children, who should be going to school and experiencing life, having to be stuck at home. People need to realize that this situation does not revolve around solely themselves and understand that their actions will only result in delaying the process of flattening the corona virus case curve.
