The Importance of Understanding
My experience with Covid-19 and quarantine has consisted of me being anxious and confused most days. It has been a stressful, heavy burden on my mind due to the many ongoing, worldly events. This is especially true because I am an American citizen. To me, this post speaks very heavily about the message that needs to be heard by all Americans. Many people are not taking Covid-19 seriously enough and are only thinking about how Covid could affect their health and not others’ wellbeing. This screenshotted post is important to me because I believe the reason America is having such a hard time fighting this virus is because people are only thinking about themselves and how the virus affects them versus how it could affect others with different immune responses to Covid. -

Numb
As I gear up to teach high school remotely this fall, many members of my community are demanding "robust" and "rigorous" curriculum with a live daily bell schedule. We have received the opportunity to train on a host of technologies. Conversations are centered around ensuring that students do not fall behind academically. For me, these topics are misguided. How can we teach students rigorous academics without first addressing their emotional well being and the state of their mental health? If we truly want students to learn this year, we need to first focus on who they are and what they need as humans. Only then can true learning occur. Numb, created by Liv McNeil - a 9th grade student in Canada, captures what many of our students are likely experiencing during the COVID-19 pandemic. I hope that global education systems can prioritize the mental well being of our students over "rigorous" and "robust" curriculum. -

The Accidental Quarantine Family
This is the story of a family from China who were renting an AirBnB basement in a home. COVID hit, travel was prohibited, so they had to stay put. They were stranded together and became a temporary family. They all pitched in together and made it through, helping with chores, meals, and babies. The stranded couple came to Salt Lake City to complete their surrogate pregnancy since it wasn't allowed in China. Their advice? "Never quarrel with each other. Cooperate with each other. If we have some difficulties, just get it together." -

Dis-ease: Poetry in the Period of the Pandemic
Not a "story" in the traditional sense, these are a collection of poems that nonetheless implicitly serve as narrative/tell the story of how an aspiring writer uses the time to harness all the stress, turn it from distress into eustress to de-stress, and thereby find a strategy for survival through creative expression. In each poem, as annotation, the direct connection to COVID is described. -

California Reinstates Stay at Home Order
Here in California, the coronavirus has been hitting our state particularly hard. Although things were initially looking up after our efforts as one of the earlier states to impose quarantine. As we began our reopening, there has been an explosion of new cases. Specifically in Orange County, resistance to wearing masks and a rush to return to normal means that just a few weeks after progress, we seem to be back to square one. This item was added TAGS v6.1.9.1. I originally searched under the hashtag #california. Within that search, I have chosen to add the following tweet because it is from a local news source/local reporter that multiple people rely on. Furthermore, it brings state governmental voices into the conversation. (Main article link): https://abc7.com/health/watch-today-gov-newsom-to-give-covid-19-closures-update/6292422/ -

Marriage in Quarantine
This is a humorous account of what many couples felt like when they were "stuck with each other" at home in quarantine. We bug each other, we can't live with each other, yet we can't get away from each other. Add kids to the mix, and you have endless cabin fever and chaos. -

During quarantine, all sports were canceled. ESPN was playing games from the Eighties, Nineties, and early 2000s. Notes from Coronaland--Poems Written Every Day in April 2020
My English professor, Jo Kaplan, pen name for Joanna Parypinski, wrote a lovely collection of poetry while in quarantine in April 2020. The poems are beautiful in their simplicity and accessibility. The language is sometimes surprising, but always profound and universal. I think they have captured the feelings of all of us during this difficult time. -

Quarantined Italians Sing Together from Balconies
Before the Coronavirus came to the United States, all eyes were on Italy. They had the highest death rate ever and they were all in a very strict quarantine. They were able to release the stress of being cooped up in their small apartments by singing together while standing on their balconies. Some would play violins, accordions, or tambourines, while others sang. They all joined in and it was quite a unique experience, and the videos went viral. -

Gov. Brown asks for release of some prison inmates to slow virus spread
One of the hardest hit populations with regards to covid-19 are corrections facilities. In an effort to slow the spread in the nations overcrowded facilities government officials have released some inmates early. The public has had mixed reactions to this policy. While the government officials are not releasing inmates that pose a danger to the public people are still worried. This article covers the story in Oregon and the comments add to the conversation. -

Broadway Plaza, Walnut Creek. March 2020
A Campolindo HS photography class assignment was to take photos of some nearby location that tells a story. My senior decided to procrastinate and ended up needing to complete the assignment during the early days of quarantine. A trip to a normally very busy Broadway Plaza shopping center in Walnut Creek on a Saturday turned out to be the perfect location. The only people we saw out there was a man and his son riding bikes past this center fountain area. In one of the pictures, you'll see the Apple store in the distance, completely dark and vacant. It looks like a ghost town. It's not this vacant even on holidays recognized by retail stores. -

Quarantine's Progression
This tweet encapsulates the mindsets of many people from the beginning of quarantine in March to the present day. I would describe the first stage as optimism/depression as the full reality of being stuck inside set it. Then came the phase of trying to learn productive skills or keeping busy; for many that meant taking up baking or cooking. Most recently, as restrictions have been eased people have poured into the streets to protest racial injustice. This item was added TAGS v6.1.9.1. I originally searched under the hashtag #coronavirus. Within that search, I have chosen to add the following tweet because it describes the emotional states that people have progressed through as quarantine has dragged on. -

Haircuts may be Needed
When quarantine originally started, there was a scramble to figure out just what would be classified as an essential business. First up on the chopping block was salons, which after three months of quarantine has led to some interesting hairstyle decisions being made. Currently shops are reopening in California, but I may wait just a little while longer before I cut my hair. -

U.S. Excellent Response to Covid
At the beginning of quarantine, I and many people hoped that with quarantine and a sound government plan we would all collectively be able to beat coronavirus and get back to living our lives. As we pass day 94 in California since the Governor mandated a stay at home order, it really feels as though we haven't given our best go of things. Although individual states and locals have had varying success, the Federal response seems to amount to just hoping that it will go away and won't have to be dealt with anymore. -

Although its mostly been humans that are being affected by the quarantine and coronavirus, our pets are also feeling the struggle. The Difference 12 Weeks Makes
At the beginning of quarantine, myself and others were hopeful that the experience would be quick and relatively painless. It would be an opportunity to work from home, relax, and learn to bake bread that much better. After 12 weeks of a patchwork effort at the Federal, State, and Local levels people were restless. When George Floyd was murdered, people poured out into the streets to protest. Now, people have been radicalized and are ready to fight. -

Diary of a Quarantinee
I was ordered into enforced quarantine on arriving in the NT on 25 March 2020. Celebrities Say Thank You to Healthcare Workers
I thought this was important to preserve in the archive because it shows how much everyone appreciated the healthcare workers during the COVID-19 period. Quarantine Centre in Nagaland for returnees from other States in India
The Government of Nagaland in an effort to prevent the spread of Covid-19 has implemented a statewide lockdown and also initiated the establishment of Observatory Quarantine Centres for native residents who are returning back to Nagaland from other States across India. The returnees must observe a mandatory 14 day quarantine period before travelling on next to their villages or rural home towns. Seen here are returnees who arrived around 9 PM (IST) by train from Chennai, Tamil Nadu waiting in line to enter their Quarantine Centre at Tetso College, Dimapur, Nagaland. They will live here for 14 days or more under strict vigilance and undergo tests to determine whether they are Covid -19 positive. If any of the returnees are tested positive, they will then be shifted to the Covid-19 hospital for further treatment. -

Molly's Quarantine Performance
Centerville, Utah (June, 2020)- My daughter is a creative soul; she loves to sing, dance and act out her vivid imagination. She loves the theatre and going to summer camp. COVID-19 stopped her from doing that this year. But Molly is resourceful and resilient, and even found opportunity to perform in her Anna costume for all her family at her own birthday party. The arts have a way of making us whole, filling us up with joy and hope; even in the midst of a pandemic. For the little ones, they always find a way back to their imagination and the safety it provides. -

Reopening Surprises
As states rushed to reopen, there were multiple warning signals put up by scientists and concerned citizens about the unforeseen consequences. There was a reassurance by politicans and those in positions of power that things would be handled properly, and that the idea of a second wave was a ridiculous thought. As states have reopened, cases have surged, and I don't think that I am the only that is not surprised. -

Dreams in Quarantine
I normally don't remember my dreams, but since quarantine has started I've either been having weird dreams or have just not been sleeping well at all. After speaking with friends and family to see if they have experienced something similar, it seems to be across the board that everyone's sleep patterns have changed. In doing some research, apparently it's enough of a noticeable impact that scientists are investigating what is happening. -

Looking Back on the Beginning of Quarantine
When the various stay at home orders were announced around the middle of March, I was optimistic that things hopefully would be managed in a fairly quick manner. Working from home, extra time to work on hobbies, zoom meetings, and the opportunity to drive less all seemed appealing. As time wore on, and various factors and wrong decisions meant that we did not as a country have this under control, staying at home lost its appeal. I don't think anyone wants to do this anymore. -

All Set With Nothing to Do
This is a humorous statement about the facts of life during quarantine, especially during the beginning phase. Many of us couldn’t work, we couldn’t go out—the “non-essential” stores, movie theaters, malls, restaurants, and bars were all closed, so there was nowhere to go anyway. This is funny because the author was very well-rested and all set to take on the day, but there was really no day to “take on.” He or she expresses our quandary well. We’re up, ready to go, but there is nowhere to go and nothing to do. -

Quentin Quarantino's Accomplishments in Quarantine
This meme voices the envisioned goals many of us possessed if we “only had the time.” When quarantine hit, all of a sudden we DID have the time, however, our lofty goals of learning a new language, taking up guitar, or writing that great American novel seemed to fall by the wayside as we dissolved into napping, watching Netflix (one of our entertainment services that has movies, TV shows, etc. to amuse us), snacking, and if we were very ambitious, baking. We seem to not be living up to Newton’s or Shakespeare’s accomplishments while THEY were in isolation. All this guy (and so many of us) has managed to accomplish is multiple posts to Instagram. Oh! And he forged an alias for himself. -

Humorous Meme about Sex and Marriage while in Quarantine
This is a meme that offers commentary on both marriage and quarantine. There were questions about the safety of having sex during the Coronavirus period, and one New York Times article even went so far as to say to avoid it except “with yourself.” This meme was a humorous commentary on the state of marriage—couples don’t have sex anyway, so they can just continue on as they always have. -

Quarantine Marital Problems
When COVID-19 hit and we were all quarantined with our families, the cracks in our relationships began to fracture in some cases. There were a lot of jokes about marriage and this meme shows that this particular couple had fissures so big and the wife was so desperate, she was digging a grave. Her husband was clueless about her plans, but who knows? Maybe he had similar plans of his own. This is funny because of course no one will actually kill his/her spouse no matter how badly they might want to! Right? -

how china faces cover-19
The COVID-19 outbreak in China during Chinese New Year. Everyone forces to stay at home during this period. They only can get out home when they need to buy some food to eat. And people out of home need to wear a face mask. During the COVID-19 spread, people would get a phone call to tell them to wear a face mask immediately if they been in outside without a face mask. -

How i think about Stay Home Law
in my opinion, the first method in the face of the outbreak is the most effective, the most secure for people's lives. First of all, pneumonia with the new coronavirus infection can be transmitted through respiratory droplets and exposure. Spread by respiratory droplets, such as patient sneezing, coughing, talking droplets, exhaling gas close contact, can lead to the continuous spread of the disease, or the patient sneezing, coughing, talking droplets mixed in the air, the formation of aerosols, inhaled by others can also lead to infection; Therefore, only the implementation of home order, everyone wearing a mask, increase the intensity of testing, is the most effective approach. Many people feel that the home order violates human rights. I think it is selfish of those who pursue so-called freedom in this outbreak, because at a time when countless health care workers are saving lives on the front lines of the epidemic, and these so-called freedoms are demonstrating in the streets, not only for themselves, but for the health of others. So I think Method One is not only not a violation of human rights, but rather a responsibility to the lives of the inhabitants. And the implementation of the home order is not only an inhuman decree, but every person who abides by the home order is contributing to society. -

A Quarantine Birthday
First birthdays are an important part of a child's life. However, due to the precautionary measure Illinois has taken, my niece was forced to celebrate hers in an unlikely fashion. My entire family logged on a video conferencing app at the same time to wish her a Happy Birthday. On the same day, we threw her a birthday parade by honking our cars and playing cheery music down her street. Under different circumstances, we would be meeting altogether in a grand hall with gifts and food. This birthday will surely be memorable. -

Reaction to a sudden lockdown
I have submitted 3 memes which highlight people's reaction to the pandemic. One of the memes shows what everyone expected from 2020 vs what they got which was police guarding toilet paper against people who were scared and started hoarding it. The second meme shows Darth Vader as the good guy as he is wearing a mask and listening to orders. This shows the redefinition of good vs bad citizen. The third meme shows the anxiety of people who are unable to pay rent and collecting more and more debt. With the government stimuli being too little to actually help, and the worst unemployment in history, people are feel attacked as shown in the meme. -

A privileged withe boy in a privilegedsocietys take on quarantine
For complete context, I am a white 8th grader at an exceptional private school who lives in the bay area and is very privileged. Today I will be talking about hat quarantine has been like for me. At the start, I was happy at thought of maybe a few weeks off school because of some flu but then it became serious and school was canceled for the entire year. as the days went on I started a routine. online school from 9 to 2 (with lunch in between of course) then exercise outside for an hour (pretty much just walked my dog most of the time), then play video games for most of the remaining day. video games were the only way I made contact for most of the quarantine with my friends. my favorite games to play during quarantine was 2k and COD but mostly COD. Anyways that has been my life for the last few months and it has not been half bad. Besides the fact I couldn't go out or see any of my friend's quarantine was kinda nice. But after a while, people started getting tired of quarantine and started to see their friends again. It started with most girls who were craving social interaction and then eventually after a few weeks spread to the boys. another thing about quarantine was I was on my phone a lot. I averaged around 7 hours a day of screen time which included binging of Netflix shows, viewing of plenty TikTok, and sending lots of snaps. Some shows I have watched over qaurantine are tiger king, money hiest, community, all american, space force, etc.. also, another thing if this matters to you are my political beliefs. I am liberal and I think trump is an awful president and person (excuse my language). Anyways quarantine hasn't been too exciting and it has been kinda boring. also, the protest in the name of George Floyd and I do not support the violent protests but I truly believe In the cause that they are supporting and I think we shouldn't have to live in a racist world. If I am being honest I would actually like to go to a protest but my parent probably won't let me because its "dangerous" or something along those lines. Anyway, that has been my take on my quarantine and I hope whoever you are that is reading this that you are living in a better world with a better government right now. Thanks for your time. -please excuse my awful grammar -

Pandemic
Staying at home locked up is very odd. It takes a toll on your mental health because you are not able to see your friends or anyone outside your immediate family. It is hard to connect with others and you will see the other side of most people's personalities. Letting yourself be who you are is very important. Taking time to do what you love (if possible) is a great way to let out steam. Workouts and staying fit as well as movies and video games are good ways to spend time. The pandemic of 2020 will always be remembered, likely not fondly. -

2020
When my school was shut down on March 13, I knew that COVID-19 had impacted and spread toward the city. I immediately went into a state of panic and stress, hoping that my family and friends would be able to pull through. After talking about what to do with my parents, I did my best to stay calm and follow the safety guidelines. The state announced that people would quarantine themselves at home for the next couple months. My parents started to worry about food and other resources but we did our best to reassure that we had enough necessities. After reading the guidelines, we always wore masks and brought gloves and hand sanitizer to not only protect ourselves- but from others. During these three months of quarantine, I have been keeping up with the news about COVID-19 and continue to keep my family and others safe. -

How COVID-19 affected me
This meme is relatable to me because of the fact that my Birthday had passed during this Pandemic. I found it funny because it was a small gathering of my five family members with a small cake. This is important to me because I enjoyed it and I thought it was thoughtful that my family still gave me a cake during a time when money is scarce. Anyways, I enjoyed my cake a lot since it had been so long since I had eaten something other rice and chicken and it was so much more enjoyable because of the thought. -

"Everyone Is Cooking Right Now. Except Me."
There are plenty of people who are exploring their culinary prowess for the first time, or maybe it's a life long obsession; either way, people are showing their skills. I'm a baker, I love serving food to others and making food that will be apart of other peoples memories. Flavors are like paints to me, with the right combination you can create a masterpiece. While I'm all for seeing people cooking and baking up a storm while in quarantine, I'm more like Josh Duboff right now. I can cook and I can bake, but am I? Not unless I'm being paid to do so. While people may feel this is the perfect time to work on self-improvement, me included, that work will not look the same for every person. Some people may be working hard just getting out of bed or going to bed in the first place. Food can be a stress release for many, but for others, its a stressor. For Duboff, it's not worth the stress to cook. For me, it's my job, not my hobby. The most I've cooked (unpaid) while in quarantine is irish-oatmeal and the occasional egg sandwich because it's easy, and I can do it while sitting. Yes, the classically trained CIA graduate is not cooking or baking while in quarantine. If it doesn't come from a box or a bag, it's not happening. This is other people's time to shine in the food world; someone else can take my seat while I go get more coffee. -

AP Tests
All year my classmates and I have studied and worked in order to ace the AP tests. However due to quarantine we were unable to take the normal AP tests and had to take the online version. One year of work was graded with 1-2 essay(s) which is completely unfair. Due to the essays covering only a small portion of the year my classmates and I were annoyed. During the actual tests there were different prompts, all varying in difficulty, which is unfair. Many people often had trouble with the whole experience and there are several classmates that have to retake the test. The AP tests this year was a doozy yet I’m glad it is over. Hopefully a vaccine comes out soon and this pandemic ends because the future looks so hopeless. -
