Healthcare Workers Vulnerability to COVID
This is article covers a research period from March 1 to May 31 involving adults with COVID-19 which included healthcare workers as patients. It reports finding who was affected, how sick they became, and the percentage of those who died. The median age was 49 for healthcare workers, 13 years younger than the entire group surveyed. Men outnumbered women in severity, but women accounted for larger numbers affected. The findings also concluded that healthcare workers are being stretched to their limits and operating with scarce personal protective equipment. -

Nurses Cry for Help
This is a cry for help that my sister and her manager posted on Facebook. This came at a time when nurses were running on empty as far as supplies were concerned. They needed anything they could get their hands on. The panic caused by the virus led to people hoarding PPE and essentially taking it from the hands of the people that really needed it. Because of that, the nurses needed to reach out to anyone that would listen. They sent a message to the community asking for help and putting the list of items they were short of in the amazon wish list. Thankfully within days they were able to get enough supplies to last them a few weeks but they are still reliant on the community. The pandemic has asked a lot from the frontline workers and the stress they've endured isn't something I'd wish on my worst enemy. If their is any way to make their jobs a bit easier, I think we owe it to them to do it. -

COVID uniform
This is a picture of my sister on her first day on the COVID unit as St. Joseph's Hospital. She was transferred from the Neuro-ICU because the size of COVID admissions. The managers put a strong focus on the importance of gearing up, they were told specifically that "nothing is an emergency" but after the first few days she learned that wasn't the case. It typically takes about 4 to 5 minutes to get completely geared up to go into a patients room. The problem is when a patients O2 levels drop hard and fast. Then the nurses are faced with the choice to go in without proper protection or take the time to get geared up. Nurses face life and death situations normally, a pandemic just amplifies it to a level that no one was prepared for. -

Bay Area health care workers want more transparency about on-the-job coronavirus exposure
In 2020, there are a lot of secrets that are being kept from health care workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Health workers have emphasized that they want to be immediately notified when they have come in contact with the coronavirus by patients, so they are able to get tested and stay safe away from others. However, many of them have not been notified- and that resulted them into testing positive for the coronavirus. This is extremely important to talk about because without health care workers, the pandemic would be much more out of control than how it is now. They put their lives at risk to help patients who have the coronavirus. If more and more workers are in the dark to whether a patient they have worked with has COVID, then there were be less health care workers available at hospitals for assistance. -

Celebrities Say Thank You to Healthcare Workers
I thought this was important to preserve in the archive because it shows how much everyone appreciated the healthcare workers during the COVID-19 period. While many of us could stay safe at home in quarantine, there were so many others who endangered themselves daily. Despite the constant threat of exposure, they went to work every day to take care of the sick.
