stmarysstulife Instagram posts from Student Development & University Programming Council
These two posts are from the @stmarysstulife account. The Student Development and University Programming Council (UPC) made Tik Tok videos to the Full House "Everywhere You Look" song and the @stmarysstulife posted them. I think they posted this to show we're all in this together at St. Mary's and there are multiple people we can go to for help and support. -

Jewish Melbourne: NCJWA article in AJN

Keeping Traditions: Students Shift to Virtual Events During a Global Pandemic
The post is on the St Mary’s student life Instagram page and contains an image of an electronic flyer/bulletin announcement. It is a post to announce an Instagram live stream for St. Mary’s students where there will be cooking lessons, trivia, study tips, DIY projects, Spirit Dress contest, gift cards giveaways and more. Just like how St. Mary's students would use this platform to announce things such a trivia night at the pub on campus, they began to use it to announce online events. This item shows how universities and organizations have had to adapt in order to keep going with their extracurricular activities and traditions that students look forward too. They have always worked hard to keep the student entertained and give them things to do outside of class, however, with COVID, they've had to be more creative and think of activities to do on any online platforms such as Zoom, or in this case, an Instagram live stream. In the end, it is important to try and keep the fun activities and traditions alive and going so that the students can feel as though, even though things are being done on online platforms instead of in person like before, their academic years are still filled with the exiting activities and things they love about being a student. -

COVID: An Online Story
We live in a new world. This is a world inundated by social media and technology, a world by which our connections are bound by a glowing screen that exonerates us from our day-to-day trappings. In this online world I had friends of eight years who I had met through the massively multiplayer online game World of Warcraft, but that was not all we bonded on. As we grew up together we expounded on things both small and large, interests in girls or drama at our High Schools, political arenas we had no conceptualization of, and even philosophical or religious debates that dragged on endlessly and only served to fuel our unending thirst for knowledge. This bond transcended geographic location, each of us where from different parts of the continental US. I learned new things about local American cultures that shocked my Angeleno conscious. But when the pandemic hit, we found a distance between us that was measured by complicated school schedules, budding responsibilities, and a sheer desire to perfect areas of our life that we felt were lacking. The typical adage amongst contemporaries in this pandemic is that gamers were particularly blessed for being natural introverts willing to spend inordinate amount of time alone and being comfortable with it, but for us there was a newfound stress and distance that came with obligations from work and school, and our kids, that transformed our bond into a gaping chasm. Connections that were solid as ever became distant and longing, as the pandemic plunged us into a world that was uncertain, filled with stress, and plagued by civil unrest, we ourselves became a microcosm of society at large, divided. Political discussions became long-drawn out political arguments, viewpoints regarding the validity of COVID became crass and filled with cynicism or a countered desire to explain the seriousness of its impact. This all fell to the wayside when my friend, an integral part of our four, became sick, and was intubated in July. He was a smoker, young, about 22, but he was gone for many weeks. Nobody heard a word from him. He was on death's door. And for whatever reason, perhaps it was my naivete, COVID was the last thing that came to my mind as for reasons to why he wasn't "logging on" anymore. The reality of it was much more severe than I had thought. He lost 25 lbs, and he was already a skinny enough guy. Luckily he survived, but the effects from COVID, the doctor's say, may be permanent. It's simply unknown. He couldn't smell, and it still took tremendous effort to walk, formerly a disbeliever in COVID, he now swears its validity as a precautionary tale to all of our friend group who now know never to take this beyond the seriousness it deserves. -

TD3 20-21 School Plan
I chose a PDF file detailing Tempe Elementary School District’s (TD3) plan for the 2020-2021 school year. This details when and why the school district is pushing back in person start dates and what they are doing to help the students/staff during the pandemic. It’s important to me because this is the school district I work for so it has an affect on what I do. -

「オンライン診療」コロナ禍特例→“恒常化”へ(2020年10月9日) - "Online diagnosis/check-up " Exception for Corona → To "normalized" (October 9, 2020)
Online medical care/diagnosis is expected to be used from the first visit. Using online medical care/diagnosis for the first visit is currently only permitted for special instances to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus infection. Minister of Health, Labor and Welfare Tamura met with Minister of Digital Reform Hirai and Minister of Regulatory Reform Kono on the 8th, and agreed to allow online medical care including the first medical diagnosis after ensuring safety and reliability even after the infection has resolved. As a general rule, there should be camera and ways to do video calls. The Japan Medical Association has been cautious about online medical care, saying that it will affect the quality of medical care. -

Covid-19 Through The Eye of A Teen
My experience with Covid is very weird. My middle school shut down towards the end of my eighth grade year. At first, going to school was weird because the normal school day was cut in half. Also, we now go to school through a laptop that gives you the option to essentially not even be there.(Turning off camera and microphone). To add to the mayhem, the governor of New Jersey issues a statewide stay at home order. Our president also declares a national state of emergency. So, as I am proccesing this, I am not scared of the virus, I am scared for the future and how things will return to any sense or normalcy. And to be completely honest, I don't know if that will happen soon. -

Jewish Melbourne: AJN article 'A unique remembrance'
This article, written by Rebecca Davis and published on 23 April 2020, reports on the Yom Hashoah events held the previous day, all online because of the lockdown. Three events are reported on: "special 45-minute broadcast to radio and online ‘Together We Remember’ [which] was produced by the Jewish Holocaust Centre (JHC) and commenced a unique array of Holocaust Remembrance Day commemorations as coronavirus isolation measures continue to prohibit physical gatherings"; "Immediately following the J-Air broadcast, the interactive Zoom event ‘Turning Memory into Action’ was hosted by LaunchPad in partnership with the JHC"; and "Later in the evening, the Jewish Community Council of Victoria together with the JHC screened 13 survivor testimonies on YouTube." -

Two Worlds, One Virus: Campaigning During Pandemic
In the heat of one of the most consequential Presidential Campaigns, both President Trump and Vice President Biden still have to get their deliver their messages of the future to the American people. Vice President Biden has headed warning of the virus and switched to a campaign that mitigates the risk of spreading the virus: online events and restricted in-person events that follow social distancing and mask rules for the speakers and news there. Meanwhile, President Trump has insisted on holding his rallies with no precautions in place, thus resulting in lower than expected turnout. For the average American, who sees campaigns as a race to kiss the most babies and shake the most hands, this race is far from normal. However, both of the candidates have still been getting extreme news coverage, and many people are seeing more to politics as a result of staying home. -

Quarantine
I submitted a pile of packages in my room as my photo because with nothing to do and preparing for college, I found myself ordering a lot more items and clothing online than I ever had before in my life. Mostly all of the online stores were also having huge sales, which did not help my shopping addiction especially while I was bored with no where to go and nothing to do. -

The Importance of Understanding
My experience with Covid-19 and quarantine has consisted of me being anxious and confused most days. It has been a stressful, heavy burden on my mind due to the many ongoing, worldly events. This is especially true because I am an American citizen. To me, this post speaks very heavily about the message that needs to be heard by all Americans. Many people are not taking Covid-19 seriously enough and are only thinking about how Covid could affect their health and not others’ wellbeing. This screenshotted post is important to me because I believe the reason America is having such a hard time fighting this virus is because people are only thinking about themselves and how the virus affects them versus how it could affect others with different immune responses to Covid. -

Rural Oklahoma Church Members Attend Online Services During COVID-19
Sharon and Dan Annesley of Blanchard, Oklahoma attend online services of New Beginnings Church. The Blanchard area church began offering Facebook Live streaming of their services starting 03/22/2020 and continued until 05/17/2020. Before March neither of them had ever attended an online church service, but it soon became a weekly routine during the COVID-19 restrictions. For nearly two months, Sharon and Dan attended the services each Sunday morning by driving to a local area for access to Wi-Fi and viewing on their laptop from the car. The photo captures the last time members Sharon and Dan attended online services before Oklahoma's COVID-19 restrictions were lifted for churches. Starting 05/24/2020, limited in-person services for New Beginnings Church reopened on 05/24/2020 as online streaming simultaneously will continue. -
