Community quilts will commemorate stories of the COVID-19 pandemic
The Cameron Art Museum and the Advocacy Project have teamed up to display quilts made by people around the world. These quilts depict the struggles their makers have faced during COVID-19. The museum is encouraging families to make their own COVID-19 quilt squares and return them to the museum. Returned squares will be made into a quilt that will be displayed at the museum for a limited time. -

The Covid Quilt
This is my Covid Quilt. When the lock down started I ordered a bunch of different fabrics to make masks with. The fabric size that seemed to have the most value was called a fat quarter. After making my family a bunch of bright colored masks, I had so many squares of fabric left over I decided to save them. I was not sure why I was saving them though. By the end of this summer I had hundreds of squares and decided to make a quilt. This is my Covid quilt. You can see a years worth of colorful masks represented in it. I really wish I knew how to do embroidery. I would embroider the words, "Covid Quilt 2020" into it. I am not even a sewer. I took a class in high school over twenty years ago. Defiantly imperfect just like the year 2020. But it is warm and thick. I think I will try my best to take care of it. -

Pandemic Quilt
I've finished many smaller needlework projects during the pandemic to keep myself occupied. Recently I've taken on the bigger project of making a quilt. The quilt will be made up of quilt squares that have been cross-stitched. This picture is of one of three designs that decorate twelve squares. Since this is my first time doing such a project, my mom is helping. She is currently working on a square of the same design as mine. We don't know how long it will take to complete the quilt but we hope the pandemic is over by then. -

Threads of Connection Virtual Quilt
Virtual project from the Institute of Contemporary Art Boston that is an extension of their Art Lab installation Threads of Connection. The project prompts people of all ages to create a quilt square of their own and email it to the ICA in order to continue building a vast digital quilt. This activity combines two things that museums have sought to do during social distancing; give people activities while at home and engage with them on social media. in doing so, it keeps museums relevant and engaging even if people cannot physically access their collections.
