Statistics and Final Thoughts
I think it's absolutely boggers that there have been 1.07 cases of covid-19 in la county alone. That's about 10% of Los Angeles county that have had covid-19 at some point in the past year. Not only that but La county makes up about 1% percent of the world's covid cases. I have been effected by the statistics because now every time I go somewhere, I am thinking "someone in the grocery store most defiantly has covid", and that really stresses me out. The pandemic is not over and a lot of older people and just people and general think that now we have the vaccine we won't have to wear masks everything will get back to normal, but that's just not true. Also at the beginning of the lockdown, if some people just stayed home and wore their masks this could be a lot better now. If people could also stop saying that covid is a hoax made up by the democrats I would appreciate that. -

Covid-19 Symptoms
One of my friends I know got covid. He lives and London and got it from his brother. His brother was coming home from university and got it for the 2nd time and brought it home. His brother spread it to his dad and him, but not his mom or older brother. He wasn't sick and was A-Symptomatic. He recovered quickly and still has the antibodies. Another friend of mine got covid, Anna. She was very sick and had a fever, loss of smell and taste, and shortness of breath. She got better after 2-3 weeks, but she still can't smell or taste anything after 6 months. -

Rules and Procedures
During the pandemic, I've seen a lot of people not following the rules. For example, one time I was at trader joes with my mother. We were standing in line and this one lady didn't have a mask on. This was before the mask mandate. She asked one of the crew members if she had to wear a mask. When he said you don't have to, but we greatly encourage you wearing, she put the mask back in her purse and walked into the story. I mean it's fine if she wants to get covid, but now she is putting everyone else in the story, and the employees at risk. Another time, I was hanging out with my friends, we were all wearing masks except this one girl. She didn't even bother to put a mask on. A different time we hung out, she had a mask on because I asked her to wear one, but she kept taking it off and putting it back on. It was very annoying and I was so angry because she doesn't really think covid is real. As for me, I take wearing masks very seriously and I make sure it is always above my nose. I don't mind wearing a mask, it doesn't make a difference. But I missed being at school for so long. -

Remote Learning
When I first started online school in march I thought we would be off-campus for 3 or 4 weeks, and then we would go back. I didn't know much about covid-19, so though I would still be able to see my friends. We had plans to do online school at each other's house, and hang out all the time. We went into a state-wide lockdown 2 days after and I wasn't allowed to go anywhere or hang out with anyone. It was fun at first, we watched shows, we did puzzles, we cooked a lot. But once we hit late may and I still hadn't seen my friends, I was getting really sad. As for online school. I thought it was nice because I didn't have to get up so early. The first week or so, we got up I got dressed, I did my hair, but they somewhere along the way. I rolled out of bed, still in my pajamas, and turned my video off. During classes, I was always so bored because school wasn't really interesting because we weren't learning as much. I was fine with online it was just the fact that I wasn't eating lunch with my friends anymore, or that I couldn't talk to them during passing periods, but I did love being able to eat in class or getting a snack whenever I wanted. It was also hard in the fact you couldn't really get one on one help with the teacher. -

Origin of Covid-19
When I first learned about the virus, I was told that it came from bats. And the first people that had contracted covid-19 had eaten bats that were sold at a market. I thought it was sad because people were dying from it. I also never thought it would be more than a couple of people that ate some bats and got the virus, I never thought it would become a world wide pandemic. I still believe that there is a virus and that masks effectively work. I know what you can do to prevent you from getting it. When I was first told about the virus, I was told that the flu was worse, in some cases that is true, but because there was no vaccine yet, and it can have also a larger long-term effect on some people. Also, I think that if our president put the entire country in a 4-week mandatory lock down where you were only allowed to leave your house for groceries, we would not be in this massive outbreak now. Also if all those anti-maskers just put a mask on and stopped saying that they have medical conditions that prevent them from wearing a mask, it could also be a lot better. Yes, there are certain medical conditions that prevent you from wearing a mask like a face burn, but if so just get your groceries delivered and stay home. Also if people stopped spreading lies that covid-19 is just a hoax, maybe some people would take it seriously and we would be in a much better situation. -

A Covid Christmas
Usually for Christmas, we travel a lot. The last time we stayed home for Christmas was when I was in 5th grade and I absolutely hated it. We then decided that was the last Christmas we would stay home. We don't have family near us, so it was relatively normal to what I think most peoples Christmas are. We went skiing which was so much fun, but it was different. If you didn't live with them you could do on a ski lift with them. You also had to wear a mask, but it was actually pretty nice because it kept your face warm. I wanted to see my friends before Christmas, but I couldn't because of covid, but I did get to see them after Christmas, (outside, socially distanced, with masks). Usually, Christmas break seems really short because were are traveling and going on planes, or we are driving all over some foreign country. Even though I love traveling, it was nice to have a normal Christmas where we had presents and we made cookies. -

Life the Week Before Covid
On Wednesday, the 2 days before my school told us we were going online, I had my oaks Christian interview for going to school the following year. I remember going to my interview and then everything covid blowing up in my face the same day. I got accepted to oaks Christian the day I had my interview, and then the next day we were told starting Monday we would be going online. That Friday, we were working on setting up for online school, all of the tests and quizzes were canceled. My friends and I didn't think it would get this far, we thought we would go do online school for 3 weeks, and then come back. We thought we would be able to hang out at each other's houses and do online school there. We were told that the flu was worse and that it was a big deal and that it would be over soon. We quickly were put on lockdown and we didn't see each other for months.
