  Statistics of Covid-19

  Currently there are about 25,152,433 confirmed cases of Covid-19. And sadly 419,827 have died due to Covid-19. In California alone there are 3,136,158 cases with 7,937 cases per 100 thousand. There are also a couple new strains of Covid-19 that either spread faster or are more serious. Luckily, there are a few vaccines that are being distributed now. Covid-19 has caused a lot of trouble to many people, and lifestyles have and will change due to Covid-19.

  Symptoms

  The symptoms that I heard about very frequently earlier during this pandemic were coughing, shortness of breath, fever and fatigue. These symptoms are all common symptoms of the virus. Other symptoms are headache, sore throat and chills. A lot of symptoms are symptoms that are seen with other sicknesses like influenza. One of the symptoms that is not associated with influenza is loss of taste or smell. One of my cousins experienced mild symptoms of Covid-19 such as sore throat, fever and fatigue.

  Rules for Covid-19

  To help slow and ultimately stop the spread of the virus there are rules in place. One rule is to maintain six feet of social distancing. Social distancing is a good rule set in place. It is also an easy rule to uphold. Every open store or public place has social distance stickers placed six feet apart so that people are aware of whether or not they are socially distanced. Another extremely important rule right now is wearing a mask. Wearing a mask protects yourself and others. Masks are a part of everyday life in these times. These are very simple and effective ways to protect against Covid-19.

  Remote Learning

  Due to Covid-19, instead of learning in person everyone learned online or distant learning. The day before everything went online, at school we prepared for school online. We prepared Zoom, which is the video call that we used to learn. We would spend a lot of time on Zoom, in order to learn the same as we would in person. At times Zoom became very tiresome. On Zoom during advisory I remember our class talking about how Zoom is tiresome. The main thing online school lacked is social interaction, you could not really talk to friends at school like you normally would. Remote learning did have some positives, though. For example, it was nice to be at home at times rather than at school. All in all I am grateful that we were able to continue learning even through Covid-19.

  Knowledge of Covid-19

  From the beginning of this pandemic it has been said that bats were the cause of this virus. This is similar to other coronavirus sicknesses. With more and more research of Covid-19 I have learned more about the novel coronavirus. I learned more about the efficacy of different masks and how they protect against the airborne travel of the virus. My understanding of how the disease spreads grew during the course of the pandemic. The information about the cause remained the same.

  How Christmas was Different

  Every year at Christmas time we have family over to celebrate. We would have skied at Mammoth Mountain California this year. However, due to Covid-19 restrictions my family was neither able to ski at Mammoth nor have family over. This made the holidays very different. We did not travel over the Christmas break, rather we spent the holidays, hiking and going to the beach. On Christmas Day my family hiked the Sandstone Peak trail. The peak is the highest point in the Santa Monica Mountains this made for a great view, especially of the ocean. Another hike that my family went on was a hike up a mountain called Mt. Boney. We went to various beaches during the break, where I surfed a little. Overall, it was a different Christmas due to Covid-19 and we could not do some of the things we usually do in order to protect ourselves and our family members.

  Before the Covid-19 Lockdown

  Life was normal. I would go to school in the morning, at school nothing was out of the ordinary. Before class started everyone would be gathered together talking to their friends without any concern for a disease to be spreading. I swim as a sport and also play soccer. So, on weekends competitions happened regularly. I had a swim meet in February of 2020, it was an indoor meet and there were many people there. It was a normal swim meet and it was great. Then, weeks later on the last day of in person school everything was different. Some people still congregated into groups to talk, however others like myself had heard on the news of a spreading virus and tried to maintain what was a new term at the time "social distancing." This small change indicated many new changes to come.
