The Governor Killed My Father
When Kristin Urquiza's father Mark Urquiza died in July as a result of Covid-19, she wrote a scathing obituary, that was published in the Arizona Republic. She wrote: “His death is due to the carelessness of the politicians who continue to jeopardize the health of brown bodies through a clear lack of leadership, refusal to acknowledge the severity of this crisis, and inability and unwillingness to give clear and decisive direction on how to minimize risk." As its contributors, we added this to highlight the very real costs of the pandemic in the working-class and non-white communities that have been hardest hit by the virus. In this instance, Kristin Urquiza wrote an obituary that called out Arizona Governor Doug Ducey for his inconsistent and inadequate response to the crisis. This message highlights the degree to which the virus is not just a biological phenomenon but also a political one. -

Mask Requirements
Science is usually something that I felt comfortable understanding at face value, in certain situations. Epidemiology, virology, and the like are areas where I would like the smartest person in the room to have the loudest microphone. It seems that this is not always the case in politics, especially with science that is less than flattering. This item was added TAGS v6.1.9.1. I originally searched under the hashtag #florida. Within that search, I have chosen to add the following tweet because it shows the disjointed response between the federal and state governments, not to mention local municipalities, over the pandemic. 4,000+ Protestors Arrested During Pandemic
Protests have erupted across the U.S. in response to another death of a black man in police custody. The protests have continued for seven straight days and over 4,000 people have been arrested. This creates a larger problem during the time of covid 19. With officials concerned about the spread of the virus within incarcerated populations and releasing inmates early, are they concerned about the thousands they are arresting? Are they keeping those arrested in jail or releasing them? Is the pandemic effecting their choice?
