Covid-19 Statistics
The statistics of Covid-19 are getting higher and higher each day. The total number of new cases in California today is already 21,680. The cases worldwide are more than 600,000. Each day seems like it is getting higher and higher with no stopping. I heard from friends and family about how people they know start to get the virus, and how each story seems to be closer and closer to me. Covid-19 has caused millions of people to lose a loved one or a close friend. It showed how the world isn’t really what we thought it is. There are people that are hurt by the pandemic itself and there are others hurt by the hate from people. But it also showed how united we can be. When everyone really did their part by wearing masks and social distancing, the cases really did get lower. I hope that everyone can come together and end this virus. -

Covid-19 Symptoms
One of our close family friends has gotten Covid-19. We thought that the people that are close to us were never going to get the virus, but I guess we spoke too soon. We saw them three or four days at our house before they got the test rest coming back saying positive. We were terrified, so we stayed at home for 14 days. We were all right, but our family friend, not so much. He had a fever for two or three days, and finally, after the temperature went down, it came straight back up again the next day. He was really tired and had no energy to walk around his house. His body was aching and he had a lot of pain. Luckily, after a week of getting rest, he recovered from the virus. -

Rules and Procedures during Covid
During Covid-19, there were many rules and procedures that people had to go through in their everyday lives. The most important rule, in my opinion, is to wear a mask. Everyone had to wear a mask whenever they went out in public. At work, grocery stores, pet stores, basically everywhere. We didn’t have to wear masks when we were at the beach, the park, and the golf course. But when we were in those places, we must be socially distanced from other people. I remember when my sister came home from going out to buy groceries, she met someone that was refusing to wear a mask. Now, we were about 10 months into the pandemic, so wearing a mask outside is basically a well-known rule. As my sister was standing in line, the lady in front of her was saying she didn’t need to wear a mask. She told everyone in there that it was useless and that no one should need them. My sister just watched on, not wanting to join in the argument. -

Online Learning
My experience with remote learning is better than I thought it would be. In the beginning, when everyone was adjusting to going to zoom meetings for every class and have to get supplies from school to do at home. I feel like I used my printer more in the past month than the past year, printing out papers and sheet music that would usually be handed in class. But I enjoyed working at home in some parts. For example, everything I needed was right there next to me and I didn’t have to worry about losing it (for the most part). Online learning also made me rely on myself and remembering all of my assignments and their due dates. I feel like my self-control improved a lot in the past few months. Online classes are not the best, but I am glad that everyone made them work. -

The Origins of Covid-19
When I first heard about Covid-19, I knew that it came from Wuhan, China. I didn't know how it suddenly appeared, but many people think it had to do with bats. I didn't want to believe it, but there was no other theory that seemed somewhat normal other than bats. After a few weeks, when people were determined to find out why this virus came into our lives, I heard a bizarre thought that people made it in labs. I feel like people are getting so eager to know where it came from, they decided to make crazy ideas. The more the virus spread, the more theories came about the origins of the virus. -

A 2020 Christmas
My winter break in the year 2020 was drastically different compared to the other years. I usually take a 15-hour flight from Los Angeles to Shenzhen, China, sleep and watch at least 2 movies on the plane, and arrive at the destination all tired and jet-lagged. My dad would welcome my family and me and promise to have a good dinner tonight when we got home. I would see all the skyscrapers in the city on the way, sometimes being too tall to see the top just from the car window. I would admire all the lush green hills, for LA, had brown hills with dried out bushes and dead trees. When we arrived and rang the doorbell, my grandparents would open the door and say how much they missed us. This year was different though. Instead of packing clothes and gifts for my relatives overseas, I stayed at home, playing card games with my family. Instead of getting together with grandparents, uncles and aunts, and cousins and having a big Christmas dinner, we made steak, mashed potatoes, and a pie while listening to Christmas music. Instead of playing my first round of golf for a new year at Mission Hills in Shenzhen with my dad and mom, I played with my mom, getting ready for a golf tournament I had in two days. I missed my overseas family and was able to see them over facetime and in photos. But this Christmas was not as bad as I thought it was going to be. My family got playing cards and different board games to play. We would laugh at each other when they had bad cards, or argue at each other when they wanted to trade property with each other in Monopoly. This Christmas was different, but I enjoyed it like always. -

The Story That I Knew Was Coming
To the February 2020 me, it was a normal day in my life. I woke up at 7 o'clock to get ready for school that started at 8 o'clock. My mom was reading something on her phone when I got downstairs to eat breakfast. She told me of this new virus that was going around in China. My heart started to drop. I had my family over there and most of them are my grandparents whose health isn't exactly in the best condition. I was worried about them, not think for a second how it could spread to the US. I got into the car with my sister who sends me to school. She got her podcast ready, the BBC World News Podcast. It was normal for her to play it in the morning when she gets ready for work. I listened along, not really focusing on what they were saying. But this podcast was a bit different than before. It talked about how there was a new outbreak of an unknown virus in Wuhan, China. I started to feel worried again. Whenever my mom told me something, I would think about it and then later forget about it. But this story was now on the BBC World News podcast which means that something is going to happen. I knew that my family lived away from Wuhan so I thought that it would be safe. I listened to the end of that story, thinking about it until I reached school. I walked up the stairs and never really thought about it again until a few weeks later. My family in China said that they had to stay inside their house and could not leave unless they needed groceries. To me, this meant that it was getting serious. But this was not the worst news I heard that week. The worst is that there is someone in the US that has the virus. I knew then that things are starting to be extremely different than before and I was not far from being right.
