24 Campsite Fire Pit
This is a photo of a campfire at 24 campsite, at the eastern boundary of Camp Wolfeboro and on the Calaveras County side of the river. The photo was taken at a campfire held between Troop 21 and Troop 834. Troop 21 was staying at 24 campsite the week the photo was taken. The fire bowl is KUMA brand, presumably the same 19-inch fire bowl found at the Main Campfire and at Waterfront. The fire is propane fueled, like all other campfires held during the 2021 camp season at camp. The photo was taken on July 22 at 9:31 PM. -

Program Office Mask Sign
This is a photo I took of a sign found on the inside of the door into the top (second) floor of the program office reminding Scouts and Scouters to wear a mask while in the building. The sign reads "Please remember to wear your mask in the P.O. Thanks for keeping camp safe!!!!", and has the Camp Wolfeboro logo on it. The photo was taken on July 19 at 11:44 AM. -

Summer Reading Time
A friend whose child recently beat cancer started the Teddy Bear Foundation this last summer. He reads to children in both English and Spanish. Since he is no longer able to do so in person, he started a YouTube channel in order to read stories to children suffering from cancer. -

Summer Activity Risk Levels
SImply leaving my home felt like I was risking my life this summer, but sometimes your sanity is worth some risk. Here is one of the websites I utilized to determine the risk factors into any activity. Due to being high risk, I would make sure to choose low risk activities such as walking outside. -

Texas family's 'staycation' recreates canceled Disney vacation at home amid COVID-19 closures
I think this is a great article that shows the resilience of people during trying times. The Hern family in Texas was all ready for their trip to Disney when Covid struck and cancelled their trip. They would not let that get them down through, this video shoes not only their love for Disney but their creativity and positive attitude while they recreated what their trip might have looked like. This is such a great depiction of not allowing social distancing to change your positive life, of going with the flow and making the best of a tough situation. -

A Vegas-ish 40th Quarantine Style Birthday
At the start of 2020, my group of college friends planned a trip to Las Vegas to celebrate a dear friend's 40th birthday. As we all live in different areas of the country, it was clear by the start of April that the trip would not be happening due to the COVID-19 pandemic. After 20 years of friendship, we couldn't let a milestone like this pass us by. We decided to throw her an over the top Zoom birthday party. I put together party packs, complete with colorful wigs, dessert plates, confetti and cocktail stirrers, and sent to each party guest. The birthday girl's package had strict instructions directing her to wait to open right before the start of the party. Together, the guests made a photo slideshow that included the top 40 things that we love about our friend and read it to the guest of honor during the party. We also decided to make a cocktail together and brought our own desserts and candles so that we could sing to her. The group coordinated with her husband to make sure that she had the cocktail supplies and a dessert to join in the fun. It certainly wasn't what she had imagined for her 40th birthday. But it was unique, thoughtful, a lot of fun, and definitely a memory to last a life time. -

Viva Las Vegas! CANCELLED
Contra Costa County COVID-19 shelter-in-place orders were announced on March 13, 2020. As is typical for me, my calendar was full of various activities in the summer months. I love summer! And, as a teacher, I have more freedom during the summer months to travel and to spend times with loved ones. One of the upcoming events I was most looking forward to was a trip to Las Vegas to celebrate one of my best friend from college's 40th birthday. Somewhere between college and now, life began to move at warp speed and we don't get as much time together as we would like. So, for many reasons, this was a major trip for us all. In early April, it was clear that the trip would no longer happen. We all received a text from the birthday girl letting us know the trip was officially cancelled. While I am sad, it is definitely the right decision. I am hopeful that 2021 will give us the opportunity to reschedule! It is hard to imagine that it could possibly be an entire year before we can all comfortably travel and be together once again.
