A New World: How Covid-19 affected my anniversary trip.
Originally, I always had the idea of taking my wife on a Mediterranean cruise for our 10 year wedding anniversary. However, it seemed as if Covid-19 would make those plans impossible to carry out. Thankfully, vaccines became available, and the Mediterranean countries would begin to open up to tourism again with some restrictions. On July 2022, we flew out to Rome, Italy to spend a few days there before the cruise itself. Even going through the airport was an entirely different experience, since this was our first time seriously dealing with the restricted rules(we had previously isolated ourselves for over a year and did everything online). We had to wear masks everywhere in the airport, our tram was partitioned into sections by barriers, and airplane boarding took longer since the boarding groups were made significantly smaller. When we arrived in Rome, we still had to wear masks inside of buildings(which was consistent with our experience all throughout Europe) and transportation(some buses enforced it, some didn't). In addition, as we visited restaurants, shops, and tourist locations, there were only a limited amount of people allowed in each location since there was a priority in having space between different groups. The restrictions continued as we embarked on our cruise a few days after. If you were vaccinated(as we were), you only had to take one antigen rapid test before you entered the ship to make sure that you did not have Covid-19. If you were not vaccinated, you had to take two tests, one a few days before you entered the ship, and one on the day of embarkation. This was unique, as a lot of other cruise brands were not letting anyone who was unvaccinated aboard their ships. When we boarded the boat, each group was given their own table and their own serving team(with masks on). This was possible because the allowed capacity that was on the boat was severely reduced. This allowed for us to have a more intimate experience with the serving staff, which was still at a relatively high capacity as compared to the population of the customers. As it comes to the picture itself, it is very important because we were only allowed to take off our masks for pictures inside of buildings. In addition, that picture was inside of St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican, which is a place that I have always wanted to enter due to its Christian symbolism. The walls and the statues tell the story of Christianity that has spanned over thousands of years. -

Employee Weekly Covid-19 Test
Since the pandemic and everyone returning back to work a vaccine has been provided for everyone to take the vaccine if they choose to. The vaccine is to help with Covid, if received it can help with less symptoms if one happens to catch Covid. At my place of employment we have received emails from HR that anyone who has not been vaccinated must take a covid weekly test in order to ensure we do not have covid and make sure the campus is a safe place to be and ensure that everyone stays virus free. -

Vanderbilt Covid Testing
This photo is a screenshot of an email that I received during the Fall 2020 semester at Vanderbilt University. Throughout the semester, I received many emails that looked exactly like that one. The email is proof of a negative Covid test result, which every Vanderbilt student had to receive each week during the fall semester in order to remain living in their dorm. If a student tested positive, they would be taken from their dorm into quarantine housing. For some context, in March of 2020, all Vanderbilt students were sent home early due to the coronavirus. From March onward through the summer, Vanderbilt students worried about their fate as students. Would we be allowed to return to Nashville in the fall? Would we be subjected to more online “college”, trapped in our childhood bedrooms? This anxiety physically ate away at me, keeping me in a constant state of unease. When we finally heard that we would be coming back to campus, it felt as though an immense, invisible weight had been released from my shoulders. We were told, however, that there would be restrictions to college life. At that moment, I did not care an ounce. I would happily take any variation of college, as long as I would be able to live on campus. One of my major stressors entering that year was that we would be kicked off campus a second time. Callous students loudly proclaimed that this was inevitable, there would be no way that we would last this upcoming year. Comments like this brought the anxiety right back to the pit of my stomach. As a student who was going to be living on campus, what would I do if I was kicked off? Where would I go? I did not even want to think about that as a possibility. But that was the energy that charged the air at Vanderbilt that year: there was a fear and a deep distrust that Vanderbilt would stay open. One of the key differences between this year and other years at Vanderbilt was the weekly Covid testing (In the spring semester, the Covid testing was twice weekly). Students were required to enroll in times in their schedule when they would trek over to the Rec, or the large gym on campus, to spit in a tube. At the beginning of the year, I would go with my friends during our allotted time. We soon learned, however, that it did not really matter when you went, as long as went sometime during the week. While this was in some ways comical, to walk into the Rec center, with pop music blaring, and spit alongside your college peers, there was something stressful about it as well. It was like constantly turning yourself in; if you did have the misfortune of having Covid, you had willingly given yourself over for the school to come and take you away. Especially at the beginning, fear of Covid was rampant. Even if you felt fine, a scratchy throat may seem like your doom. At the beginning of the semester especially, waiting for the emailed results felt like eternity. And we all knew what would happen to people who tested positive, or those unfortunate enough to be contact traced: they were shipped off in a golf cart for everyone to see, and were banished from the rest of campus. But this was worth it, all of it was worth it for us. The stress of getting tested and the fear of being quarantined was a miniscule price to pay for being able to be on campus, with our friends. It was an escape from our summers of restriction. Or at least, it was for me. And for that, I give Vanderbilt tremendous credit for opening and following through successfully with the covid-testing of all the students each week. -

Air Travel
Despite health warnings from the CDC, air travel in the US exceeded 1 million daily passengers for three consecutive days since last Saturday. If you're planning to travel, the health agency recommends getting tested one to three days before the trip and three to five days afterward. They also encourage you to "reduce non-essential activities for a full 7 days after travel, even if your test is negative.” -

Too close to home
I was in class on a Wednesday and my phone kept going off like crazy.it was being so distracting so I just decided to check why it was going off and then turn it off for good. I picked up my phone and there were thousands of text messages saying "you need to get tested", "go get a test". At this point I was completely confused, so I asked them what was going on and they said that one of my friends had tested positive for Covid and that I need to get tested because I'm hanged out with them on that Monday. Once I read this I completely froze, I didn't know how to handle this information. I was scared for my life, and for hers, I wasn't sure if she'd be okay. If I was going to be okay. I wasn't paying attention to class at all and everything my teacher was saying was going completely over my head. School got out and all I could think about was how am I going to tell my parents that I came home possibly with Covid. The thought of just having to tell them the news and how they could possibly react to it scared the life out of me. I didn't think that I could tell them because I was afraid they would be too disappointed in me and to scared. I finally got the courage to tell my mom and she surprisingly took the news well. My parents weren't happy but they definitely weren't angry so that's good. They told me that I had to wash everything that I have touched in the past 2 days. I was so glad to tell my parents because holding that secret in was tearing me apart inside. I checked in with me friend everyday to make sure she was ok. It's scary to see it on the news and to hear it on the radio but once it hits too close to home, it can really change your entire life. -

ASU COVID Saliva test
I took my employee mandated COVID-19 test at 7:20 in the morning and recorded the process. Test result was negative. Transcript: Katy: All right, I’m taking my COVID test because ASU said that I needed to do it. It’s basically a saliva test. They give you a vile to spit into and a line that you have to meet. When I came in, somebody gave me the vile and wrote down my date of birth. I’ve got a straw. I’m just gonna fill this sucker up with saliva. -

Covid testing positive
I have not been affected by anyone I know testing positive, and i have not been tested positive. My brother has to get tested every month and he has never tested positive. I guess my moms cousin tested positive and was in the hospital, I don’t know if he died or not though my parents just stopped talking about him. I never met him. -

Symptoms of Covid-19
Throughout 2020 there has been many different symptoms of Coronavirus. The main ones are fever, sore throat, coughing. I had a personal experience with one of my family members getting the virus. It was my great grandma. My great grandma was my biggest hero. She went through many obstacles in her life including; World War 2, she was a model for Norway, and she even beat a pandemic. On November 4 2020 my family and i found out my great grandma was diagnosed with Coronavirus. Now she had many health issues and we all knew the virus would not help that. On November 8th she tested negative. We were all very happy she made it through. The next day she was not doing well and she passed away. She was surrounded by family on zoom to talk to her and I will never forget how amazing she was. -

Covid Christmas
During Christmas we had a lot of family go to my one of my Grandmas house and we had Christmas Day there. A couple weeks later we found out that my Aunts brother was exposed to Covid. My parents got tested and they were negative, and so was my Aunt. The not so good thing is now, my other Aunt has been staying with my Grandma since then and makes us wear a mask when we visit our Grandma. That was my story. -

Life with covid
I have been lucky enough to not have many people close to me get infected with covid. However there are a couple people I know that did get it. One case that affected me was my orthodontist. He got diagnosed a few days after I had an appointment with him. So obviously I had to quarantine. I got tested and tested negative. But I still took the necessary precautions. That whole week I could not leave my house. I missed soccer practice. I couldn't hang out with my friends. It was lonely and boring. Luckily no symptoms ever appeared and all was well. -

Symptoms of Covid-19
Some symptoms of Covid-19 that I know of are a fever, shortness of breath, loss of taste or smell, fatigue, vomiting, etc. I know multiple people that has contracted Covid-19 in my life such as my uncle, my aunt, and my cousins. I was shocked that they actually got Covid-19, and even now they are still recovering. Also, my history teacher tested positive for Covid-19 a couple days ago. He said that he and his family are feeling better. I am very glad that most people who get Covid-19 recover fully. Overall, I am really afraid for my parents, my grandparents, and my family. Covid-19 is spreading quickly, but I am very thankful that the people in my family who tested positive, are now feeling better. I hope more people will recover from this virus and be stronger from it too! -

The Spread of Corona Virus
I have a fairly large friend group and around halloween a couple of my friends got corona. So on Halloween there were 3 different parties to split up the friend group, so that it would be safer for corona. At one of the parties there was this girl there and her brother had corona (but she didn't know it at the time). So everyone she was with got it, including her. Then they had to quarantine and stay away from everyone for 3 weeks. I felt really bad for them because it seemed really lonely. I have also gotten tested multiple times and it felt really weird and my nose started running. I am glad that I have these experiences to learn and grow from. -

"Share a personal story of how you have been affected by someone testing positive. Likewise, if you have had Covid, share what that was like."
Corona started around 8 months ago and it has taken a toll on everyone's social life and jobs. For a while, I never thought corona would affect anyone close to me and I was never too worried about catching the virus. Until one of my close friends left my house to go see her stepmom for her birthday and she caught corona from her. It lasted around 2 weeks and she lost her taste but it didn't affect her that hard she tested again after 2 weeks and she didn't have covid. After this situation it made me realize that corona isn't just something you hear about on the news, it's all around you. -

Covid symptoms
Neither me or my family has gotten COVID but two of my closest friends got it along with their family. One of the families didn't feel any symptoms but had to get tested for sports. When it came back positive they quarantined but only two of them felt sick. They described it as what a cold feels like, "just a little out of it". The other family I know actually felt very sick. When the parents felt sick they got tested and where posited but only 1/4 kids were positive too. Their symptoms were head aches, fever, and stomach aches. Loosing smell and taste is very common but I don't know any one who dealt with that. I know a few people who thought they had it, tested and came back negative. After going to the doctors it turned out to be the flu. I got tested for sports over the summer despite feeling normal (everyone who trained had to do it) and it came back negative it was rather uncomfortable but not painful. I wasn't very nervous I was positive but I was nervous the test would hurt. I know a few people who said they wouldn't be surprised if they had it and probably did at one point but never tested to confirm or deny their theory. Even though its very well possible. -

My Experience with someone who got COVID-19
About a couple months ago, my friend who I had known for about 6 years tested positive for Covid-19. There was an outbreak in his school, and he got the virus from someone there. I'm pretty sure most of his family got tested, but only he had it. I wasn't seeing him anyway because of the lockdown, but I felt pretty scared for him. He had a heart condition and so did his dad, so he was more vulnerable than most. Luckily, he was asymptomatic and he wasn't suffering. His dad got pretty sick, but it wasn't COVID-19, he is ok now but he wasn't doing very well when he had it. Luckily, my friend was ok and did not have to go to the hospital. -

My Experience with a Positive Covid Test
I personally haven't really been affected by Covid, but I have had a few friends who tested positive. It was kind of funny because the two friends that I would talk with every day and hang out with were the two to get it. One of my friends tested positive on Christmas Eve and the other tested positive a few days before Christmas. I didn't know for a while because of Christmas plans and holiday festivities, so it wasn't a huge deal, but we couldn't get together for new years' which was kind of sad. -

How People I Know Testing Positive Has Affected My Life
My grandparents tested positive right after Thanksgiving, but we didn't go up there since they were not feeling well. Other than that, my orthodontist and his wife tested positive, but I haven't had/needed an appointment in quite a while. That is just about it. -

CoviD symptoms
It was a couple weeks after the New Year. My coach had a fever and felt achey. He said maybe it was the flu, but he got tested for COVID. He realized that he tested positive. He had a mild cough, but couldn't sleep at night. Also, he had to quarantine for 2 weeks so I couldn't train or play basketball with him. My uncle also got COVID but his case was worse. He couldn't breathe at all and had to go to the hospital. He was there for around 5 days, and actually caught pneumonia from it. Eventually he recovered, but it was a crazy week. All in all, these are some of the symptoms that I have noticed in people. -

My story about a friend who got Covid
One day I was just hanging out with my friend having fun. Then 2 days later he tested positive for Covid. I wasn't really that worried but if I did actually have it then it would be bad, also I was going on a trip with other friends in a week. So I went and got tested and luckily I was negative. -

Coronavirus in My Community
Fortunately, not very many people I know have gotten COVID-19. Maybe two or three people I know, at most, have tested positive since quarantine started. For my mom's birthday in the beginning of January, my parents decided to do a wine tasting event at our house. There was a moderate amount of people there, about twenty I'd say. My friend's parents were there and had just gotten back from visiting family in Ohio. My parents were sure to warn everyone invited that they may have been in contact with the virus during their traveling, but had not tested positive, yet. Unfortunately, a couple days after the party, almost their whole family had tested positive for COVID-19. Everyone that attended the party was on the lookout for potential symptoms afterward, as they have been in contact with the couple who tested positive. This couple had very minor symptoms and never felt severely unwell during the infection. Most people my family, friends, or family friends know that have gotten COVID have never experienced severe symptoms, but it's possible for them to become severe. Symptoms can consist of a fever or chills, coughing, shortness of breath/trouble breathing, fatigue, body aches, loss of taste/smell, sore throat, sinus congestion, nausea or vomiting, and/or diarrhea. I am thankful that my family and I have never gotten COVID and few people we know have. -

Last Night of the Semester Together
This is a photo of my roommates and I on our last night all together before we go home for the Holidays. We were tested for covid before going home, and we are planning to wait a couple of days and get tested again once we get home before we see anybody. I would feel absolutely terrible if I spread it to someone that I love at home, so I am taking the necessary precautions. My roommates and I will be reunited again in late January. -

Not a Testing Site
In March 2020, Target, in tandem with other major retailers, announced that their company would assist in efforts to expand COVID-19 testing. This sign posted on the entrance to a west Wichita, Kansas, Target store makes it clear to customers that this particular site was not one of those facilities. Taken on April 3, this photo reflects the painstakingly slow expansion of the country's testing capabilities. -

Fremonts First case of Covid-19
This was a series of pictures that My football team posted at the Special Olympics basketball tournament that my football team volunteered at. No less than a week after this event, an article came out in the Fremont tribune saying that there was a player at the event who had just tested positive for Covid-19. Following this news me and the rest of my teammates had to self quarantine for a week. This was tough for us players and our coaches because many of my teammates lived on campus and did not have access to a kitchen to cook food. But thankfully our coaches were able to bring everyone quarantined food one a day during our week long Quarantine. -
