Covid Christmas
Usually, my family gathers and we have a big celebration at my aunt's house. In 2020, we had an awkward Zoom call! It was definitely not Christmas without my family, but I am still so grateful for my parents who I got to spend the holiday with. We opened gifts and cooked lots of yummy food together. Cooking is a big deal in my family. It's something I've grown up doing and have grown to love, so it was nice to be able to share that with my parents this Christmas. I'm hopeful that I can celebrate Christmas 2021 with my entire family! -

covid holidays
My brother, parents, dog and me always go to Ohio to spend Christmas and new years with our family. This year, it was different. First of all, we had to wear masks on the airport and plane, and the seats were spaced out. When we went Christmas shopping we had to follow Covid rules to stay safe. Also, we usually go to our family's church for a new years celebration, but we skipped this year and went to see another part of our family in Kentucky for new years, because it was not safe. Sadly, the holidays this year were different, but at lease we were staying safe and keeping other people safe. -

A different Christmas
If this year was normal, we would have flown to Gurnee, Illinois, and spent Christmas with our Grandparents and aunt on my mom's side. We always enjoy this, as we get to see her Bernese mountain dog named Jasper. However, due to Covid 19 we had to stay home. I enjoy staying at home, because I feel more relaxed then having to go different places and feeling rushed to do things. My dad normally prepares Beef Wellington, A traditional English dish. It consists of sirloin steak brushed with mustard, crushed mushrooms, and then wrapped in pastry and prosciutto. It is truly delicious! This year we decided to mix up because this year has been pretty mixed up. This year, we had lobster fettuccine with Filet Mignon! My father is an excellent chef, and comes up with ideas out of nowhere! My mother helps plan and execute them, and she is my dad's sous chef. We had a wonderful Christmas dinner, and I am blessed to have such an amazing life! -
Covid-19
Covid-19 didn’t really affect me for Christmas. During Christmas, I dont usually have family over or do any traditions. Sometimes my grandma comes over and celebrate Christmas with us but this year she was guaranteed not to come over. It felt weird that nobody was going to come over for sure because sometimes my mom and dad dont tell me that my grandma is coming over and it would be a surprise, but this year i knew for sure. -

Christmas Quarantined
In the year of the plague, Christmas celebrations were different. Less fun, less social, and less exciting. Every year for Christmas, my family and I usually eat dinner at Buca di Beppo with family and friends. Not only would we be unable to invite family and friends, we also were not able to eat at the restaurant because all restaurants had closed recently before the holidays. Fortunately, we ate a delicious Christmas dinner that my mom made for my family and I. My mom usually never makes Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner because of our usual annual traditions, but she got the opportunity to this year because of COVID. We were still able to see my uncle, aunt, and cousins for the holidays and play white elephant with family friends. Christmas Day was very similar to last year - opening presents, eating Christmas dinner, and spending time with family. Conclusively, Christmas celebrations were different, but it wasn't too bad after all, considering my family's Christmas traditions aren't all that festive anyways. -

Jacob Orozco and his Covid 19 Christmas.
The Christmas of 2020, Covid was still going on. I woke up the morning of Christmas very excited, made myself eggs from a chicken, and bacon from a pic. I also had fresh squeezed orange juice. After that my 3 siblings came downstairs and had some of the breakfast that I had made. Eventually my parents work up and we got started ripping open presents. after that we drove to visit family and exchanged gifts. we had soup and meat from a cow and drove an hour back home. We got up at 8:00 am the next morning and started driving to Lake Tahoe, l beautiful lake in Northern California. we Gott caught in a snowstorm but all was worth it when we finally got there. This Covid Christmas was not that bad. As a family we found ways to make Christmas fun and enjoyable, despite the tough times we were living in. -

Christmas
Christmas day was different for me because we didn't have any extended family over. Our extended family usually brings food and we play board games and stuff. I always just hang out with my cousins too. My mom says they love spending time with me so I decided that I wanna spend even more time with them than i already have been, except not recently due to covid.. This time, most of what I did was just boring stuff. I did still hang out with my family but it was just less festive and we all felt a little more exhausted. I did grill short ribs though, they were really good and I'm actually really glad I did that. But I really burnt some to a crisp and they just crumbled apart if I tried to pick them up. I couldnt see if they were cooked well or not because the fire was too big. I also built a robot which was one of my Christmas presents and it took me about 3-4 hours to do, I still have to try and program it though and assign which buttons do what on the remote controller it came with. I think I'll do that this weekend since I really wanna figure it out, I've just been a bit too lazy with it and never got to programming. But other than that i just talked about football and food with basically everyone. Although it was exhausting, it was still fun to do since it was different. -

Covid has ruined many trips for many different people
Christmas was really differentiations for me this year because usually my family and I would be in Mammoth. Mammoth is a great skiing mountain. I am a skier and a snowboarder I love to do both because they are both so much fun. I am very skilled in both. I am a black diamond in both so that means I can do any trail there is, like runs in the trees, icee runs, and rocks. This year I just stayed inside because we were not allowed out of the house. being stuck in a closed place for over a year really is not good for your health. -

Christmas 2020
My family did what we always do for Christmas. On Christmas Eve, we all went to church. Our church, Calvary, in Westlake Village, California, had 2 in person service so we went to the one at 3. We had to wear masks and social distance, but you had to do that everywhere. Being inside a church was a weird feeling because we haven't been in the church for about 10 months due to Covid-19. Then my grandma, mom, aunt, uncle and sisters, went to my aunt and uncles house for dinner. We were suppose to get beef Wellington but the butcher messed up and gave us steak, which defiantly worked for me. We played games like scene it and 80's music trivia. Then my sisters, mom, grandma and I left because to was 10 pm. My grandma slept over on Christmas Eve like she used to when we were littler. We woke up the next day and my sisters and I opened gifts from "santa" and my mom. We then went over to my aunts and uncles for a brunch and opened gifts from each other. It felt pretty normal all together but when we go out into public it is not by far. -

Ain't No Party Like A Covid Party
We host an annual holiday party that we call 'The Cookie Party' because we have a contest where we decorate cookies, judge them, and declare a winner. We also do paper puzzles, a live gameshow, and have lots of food. Because of the pandemic, we had to shift our plans for the 25th anniversary of the party. For food, we delivered goodie bags filled with treats and safety gear. On the day of the party, we all met up on Zoom - we judged cookies via pictures, we sent games over email and graded them live, and we did the gameshow using games that could be played over computer. It was a long three hours and we were tired, but everyone had a good time. -

A Very Covid Christmas
Every year, we send out a family Christmas card. The front has pictures of all of us. This year, we noticed that all of our photos have us wearing masks, so that is what we covered the front page with. Inside, we always do a funny message, so we made a list of parody Christmas carols themed after Coronavirus, the pandemic, and all of the other elements associated with it. We got lots of comments from family and friends that said they enjoyed the humor and regardless of the pandemic, they looked forward to our cards every year and knew that this year wouldn't be any different. -

Can Low Turnout at Local Christmas Events during Covid Alter Future Events?
When the pandemic caused many local annual events to become canceled or adjust their presentation, I did not think of how it would affect the Christmas Holiday events in Virginia. The Norfolk Botanical Gardens, "Dominion Energy's Garden of Lights," has kicked off its holiday light display and events with a walkthrough known as the "Million Bulb Walk," tram rides, family events such as crafts, and readings of the Polar Express for over nine years. Due to local Covid-19 restrictions, many of these events are now canceled or offered with limited capacity. Generally, the week before Christmas until January 2 is reserved for drive-thru only. However, the garden has canceled the Million Bulb Walk and open the Garden of Lights as limited capacity tram rides or non-contact drive-thru only events. My family and I drove through the drive-thru event last month, and the garden was figuratively dead. Usually, traffic is backed up blocks away from residents anxious to get into the gardens, particularly on the weekends. Despite choosing a peak time on a Saturday, I only saw two vehicles. What usually is a 90 minute to 2-hour event was finished in less than 20 minutes. With so many events canceled and places shutting down permanently due to operation costs exceeding incoming cash, I have to wonder if low turn-out will forever alter the Garden of Lights. The NBG is a non-profit organization, and the Garden of Lights is one of their primary fundraising sources. An underwhelming turn-out could cause financial strain on the garden that could hinder future events. -

Santa's Naughty List Pandemic Season
A friend shared this on her Facebook page. I wanted to share it, but this type of imagery is so polarizing that it's sometimes exhausting to get into a social media battle. I do think about unfriending people who don't think COVID is real and don't want to wear masts. The truth is, one only need to look at Australia to see that strong public health restrictions actually do stop/slow community spread. Anyway, if there were a Santa he'd say put your mask on and be jolly about it. -

Christmas Covid Wave...
After the 2020 Thanksgiving holiday, the United States has begun to consistently break the 1 day infection rate record. Even before the holiday the U.S. was breaking records, but despite this fact many families still held large gatherings. However the Thanksgiving holiday is only unique to the U.S. and as Christmas approaches there could be a global increase in cases if families around the world gather together. -

Mom and Aunt's new plan for Christmas shopping in the era of COVID19
This is a text my aunt sent to my cousins and me after she and my mom devised a new way to do Christmas shopping during the era of COVID19. They decided to forgo their usual Christmas shopping tradition because of the pandemic. Usually, the entire family spends a whole day going shopping together at various stores like Barnes and Noble or Kohls. My family makes a real day of it! However, this year my mother and aunt chose to do their Christmas shopping from home. To maintain as traditional a shopping experience as possible, they decided to ask my cousins, sister, and I to put together a list of items available on Amazon from which they would choose our gifts. This way, no one would have to leave their homes, and what we got for Christmas could still be a bit of a surprise! -

ロックダウンでも「サンタには特別許可証」(2020年11月13日) - "Special permit for Santa" even in lockdown (November 13, 2020)
Italy's Prime Minister Conté replied that he made a "special permit" for children who were worried that Santa Claus would be able to give out presents as the spread of the new coronavirus restricted his outings. In Italy, lockdown with restrictions on going out is currently going on. Five-year-old Tommaso sent an email to Prime Minister Conté begging him not to restrict Santa Claus from going out. "Santa has an international special permit and can give out presents to children around the world," Conte said on Facebook on the 12th. He added, "Santa said he was wearing a mask to keep a proper distance". To keep Tommaso's promise by the disinfectant under the tree for Santa Claus was a "great idea." In addition to fighting off the virus, Prime Minister Conté also called on him to remember to ask for other gifts. Video translated by Youngbin Noh -

Christmas in July
It's July and many of my Christmas crafts are already completed! In a good year, I'm pleased if I'm finished in November. Being at home FULL TIME since mid-March, I've needed to keep busy - after monitoring the children's distance learning of course. I have definitely been mastering the many uses of the Cricut. Always accused of being a hoarder . . . all those after-Christmas craft supplies I stocked up on have come in handy. Thank goodness for Joann's & Michael's for delivery service too! Just don't know what I will do with all that I've made!
