"I can't breathe"
This political cartoon is a commentary on the rights people are willing to fight for. A lot of right wing people were willing to protest and fight against social-distance measures and masks. But not willing to fight for the right to live by minority communities. -

Sarah Grossman Killed by Teargas
This lovely lady was demonstrating in the recent protests. She was killed by the police's use of teargas on the crowd. One report said that she had asthma, but a later report said that she did not. I looked at her picture, and felt so sad for the loss of a beautiful soul. -

Solano County Sheriffs Department mandates lock-down over protests
My county was given stay-at-home orders as peaceful day-time protesting was infiltrated by looters and violence at night. I listened to the police scanner as reports of our stores being looted and burned down came in. Several stores including Walmart, CVS, Best Buy, BevMo and MiMi's Cafe were damaged and looted. There were not enough police to cover the unrest. Once the looters moved to another building the police had to abandon the newly secured building, leaving it again open for looting. The unrest lasted until sunrise. I got no sleep that night. We were worried the looting would find its way into residential streets. The next day the national guard came in. My town is no longer small. We have become one of the most affordable cities to live in the San Francisco Bay Area and we have grown so fast, but the small town feeling still lingers in its older residents like me. We have never had the National Guard here. The next morning my family packed our car up with cleaning supplies and drove to Old Town to see if there was anything we could help clean up. Luckily only larger businesses were targeted. People were so angered by the looting and were very vocal about it. I was afraid that night but I understand the looting. The looters were not there because of the George Floyd, they were there because of opportunity and generational poverty. People who have opportunity don't loot. This was kids like my students. Kids who the system works against every single day. If they could get away with a few pair of new shoes to sell and get ahead why not? I'm not mad. These systems are strong. Companies like Walmart profit off of the labor an poverty of their employees every single day. I'm not mad that they were targeted. -

The Legacy of the Duluth Lynchings
Video created by the Minnesota Historical Society to commemorate and remember the 100th anniversary of the murders of three African American men: Elias Clayton, Elmer Jackson, and Isaac McGhie who had been falsely accused of rape by a white woman. The video reflects on the continued trauma or white racial violence and terrorism in the United States, as well as the failure of the education system in Minnesota to focus on this event and its significance in the context of the recent murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis police officers. In the midst of the pandemic and the protests related to the murder of George Floyd, museums are grappling with how to commemorate important moments in the nation's past. This is especially true of moments of racial violence and trauma, which hold increased significance with current discussions surrounding white supremacy. -

Letter to the Community
Letter posted on the Science Museum of Minnesota website, addressing the killing of George Floyd by police officers in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Museums and cultural heritage sights, especially those in Minnesota, have sought to stand in solidarity with protestors demanding justice for George Floyd. This has been complicated by social distancing and pandemic related closures that prevent museums from physically holding events tied to issues of race in the United States. This particular letter highlights the museum's own complicity in perpetuating racial injustice. -

Protests and Coronavirus
When coronavirus started, the first sacrifice that was made to prevent the spread was all large gatherings. While this has mostly been followed for the duration of quarantine across the country, there was a huge concern when protests erupted over the murder of George Floyd. After some initial trepidation, it is clear that protestors are not causing the virus to spread; instead they seem to be trying to follow all CDC guidelines as best as they can. -

#NoJusticeNoPeace Murals Blanket Downtown Oakland
Local Bay Area artists are creating powerful social justice themed murals on the plywood used to board up Oakland businesses that were impacted in the chaos of the protests that began May 29, 2020 and are continuing over two weeks later. The art is capturing specific and unique elements of the current protests. One mural depicts a protestor wearing a mask as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Black Lives Matter and George Floyd are the subjects of many of the pieces. One large piece of art includes an image of Brianna Noble, who rode a horse during the May 29, 2020 protests. Another includes the names of victims of police brutality; visible are Oscar Grant, Sandra Bland and Breonna Taylor. Finally, one mural reads "Oakland Is Still Proud." -

Bay Area Protesters Giggin' to E-40 in Oakland, California
Over a week into the protests following the death of George Floyd, San Francisco Bay Area protests took on a new vibe. Protesters marching from the Piedmont Police Department to the Oakland Police Department starting playing Bay Area rap legend E-40's arguably most popular song "Tell Me When To Go." Protesters, some of which were wearing masks due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, gigged (slang for "danced") to the Bay Area legend's song during their march. The San Francisco Bay Area culture is unlike any other. It was heartwarming to see the spirit of the Bay alive and well. #HST580, #ASU, #nojusticenopeace, #sanfranciscobayarea -

The darkest time on Sneaker heads history
Many sneaker stores on Firefox were robbed, burned down, or damaged during the Black Live Matter Riot. Sneakers and streetwear are rare and expensive. Even though we were experiencing quarantine, many people go on the street to protest. However, some people are taking advantage of this. Serious Problems
During Covid-19, everyone is so stressed. Many people lost their jobs. It is a really frustrating time for many people. A more exasperating thing happened. A black man George Floyd died in Minneapolis, Minnesota because of excessive police enforcement. A white police officer had his knee on George's neck for over 10 minutes even if George completely followed his instructions and didn't do anything to resist. Everyone was very angry because of this unfair treatment. The protesters started a peaceful march in some cities. However, the conflict between the police and protestor becomes more serious. Some protestors express their anger by robbing the shop and destroying their cities because society contract doesn't consider them. They want the government to make changes through the fighting. The riots seeking justice and Covid-19 became the most serious problem in the US. -

Protests Erupt Across Bay Area
In the days following the death of George Floyd, the San Francisco Bay Area erupted with protests. San Jose and Oakland were two of the first cities in which large groups of protestors took to the streets. Peaceful protestors were met with police in riot gear and risked the threat of tear gas or arrest. Protests intensified as people moved to block local freeways, like Interstate 880 in Oakland. In the aftermath of the protests in San Jose and Oakland, protests spread across the entire Bay Area. Defying local COVID-19 shelter in place ordinances, nearly every city and town in the area held a protest during the week that followed. -

WECT News Addresses Downtown Wilmington Protests
The protests all over the country have shown the pandemic in a new light. People are crowding together when they had been told to stay apart for months. They are coming together for social issues that are as important as the health crisis at hand--racial inequality and police brutality. Within the news segment clip that accompanies the written article, one can see many protesters on the steps of Wilmington's (NC) City Hall. Although it appears crowded, many protesters are wearing masks. While all Americans have been fighting an "invisible enemy" for 3-4 months, many are now seeking to fight an issue that has plagued us for more than 150 years--institutionalized discrimination. Even more recently, they are protesting as a response to George Floyd's death while under a policeman's knee. Including the protests in Wilmington, as well as others in different cities, into this archive is important because these two events have never coincided at any time during recent history. There has been a pandemic of influenza during 1918-1919, and the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s, but there has never been such a moment in history as this we are currently facing. The future implications and consequences of the pandemic and protests have yet to be determined. The only thing that is for sure right now is that we will be studying this moment in history for many years to come. -

"The virus is racism"
Demonstrations against police violence have been taking place in Phoenix, AZ, as in many U.S. cities, following the May 25 killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis. On the same day, Dion Johnson, also an African-American man, was fatally shot by police in North Phoenix. I took these photos at a peaceful march in support of Black lives on May 31. In keeping with public health guidance, almost all demonstrators wore protective masks to guard against spreading Covid19. But as one hand-lettered sign put it, "the virus is racism." -

A privileged withe boy in a privilegedsocietys take on quarantine
For complete context, I am a white 8th grader at an exceptional private school who lives in the bay area and is very privileged. Today I will be talking about hat quarantine has been like for me. At the start, I was happy at thought of maybe a few weeks off school because of some flu but then it became serious and school was canceled for the entire year. as the days went on I started a routine. online school from 9 to 2 (with lunch in between of course) then exercise outside for an hour (pretty much just walked my dog most of the time), then play video games for most of the remaining day. video games were the only way I made contact for most of the quarantine with my friends. my favorite games to play during quarantine was 2k and COD but mostly COD. Anyways that has been my life for the last few months and it has not been half bad. Besides the fact I couldn't go out or see any of my friend's quarantine was kinda nice. But after a while, people started getting tired of quarantine and started to see their friends again. It started with most girls who were craving social interaction and then eventually after a few weeks spread to the boys. another thing about quarantine was I was on my phone a lot. I averaged around 7 hours a day of screen time which included binging of Netflix shows, viewing of plenty TikTok, and sending lots of snaps. Some shows I have watched over qaurantine are tiger king, money hiest, community, all american, space force, etc.. also, another thing if this matters to you are my political beliefs. I am liberal and I think trump is an awful president and person (excuse my language). Anyways quarantine hasn't been too exciting and it has been kinda boring. also, the protest in the name of George Floyd and I do not support the violent protests but I truly believe In the cause that they are supporting and I think we shouldn't have to live in a racist world. If I am being honest I would actually like to go to a protest but my parent probably won't let me because its "dangerous" or something along those lines. Anyway, that has been my take on my quarantine and I hope whoever you are that is reading this that you are living in a better world with a better government right now. Thanks for your time. -please excuse my awful grammar -

4,000+ Protestors Arrested During Pandemic
Protests have erupted across the U.S. in response to another death of a black man in police custody. The protests have continued for seven straight days and over 4,000 people have been arrested. This creates a larger problem during the time of covid 19. With officials concerned about the spread of the virus within incarcerated populations and releasing inmates early, are they concerned about the thousands they are arresting? Are they keeping those arrested in jail or releasing them? Is the pandemic effecting their choice? -

Quarantine experience as a student
Right now, things have been tiring. With all the chaos and protests going on, it's really hard to just think about schoolwork. I hope that things will eventually end soon (happily) and I hope that all the protesters get out safely. Because our people is so fed up, the pandemic doesn't even faze us anymore. What happened to George Floyd was despicable and people are done waiting. As for staying at home, the only thing that bothers me is the absence of my teachers. My friends are cool but social media exists for a reason, I'd be lying if I said I missed my friends. -

The Virus We’ve Ignored
Kyle Kuzma posted a picture of recent events that said “this virus been around for 400+ years. Still no vaccine”. This talks about how as people have have chosen to ignore the disease that was already among us. We are taught that this nation is supposed to be the example that every other nation must follow. In history we are told that this nation is built on principles and that “ all men are created equal “ and have “ certain unalienable rights ”, but as history teaches us, that was a lie. Time and time again, we have seen riots, protests, violence, uprisings. We have seen people being discriminated against and killed for something they have no control over. How mush more violence do we have to seen in order for there to be change? This isn’t something new. We have seen it before. Slaves revolting against their “ masters ” for rights they should’ve had as human beings. We had a whole war over it. In fact, we don’t even have to go back that far, Martin Luther King Jr., The Black Panther Organization, Malcom X. These are people who have given their lives for the simple equal rights promised when this nation was built. They gave their lives and it still wasn’t enough. 1992, Rodney King was beaten by police officers and it was caught on film and those officers were found not guilty, Latasha Harlins was shot and killed by a store owner and the jury didn’t rejected a harder sentence. Riots destroyed LA, people and businesses died. It took that in order for action to be taken. Protesters riot, loot, and assemble to be heard. There is no rules to protest, there is no right way to protest. That is what a protest is. I am ashamed that it is a constant issue in which the US does not learn from their mistakes. Let’s not repeat history again. That is the point of learning about history, for us to see the mistakes made and grow to be a better society. There doesn’t need to be more death, more violence. It’s time to treat people right. It’s time for change. -

May 2020
This is the story of the riots and protests following the murder of George Floyd by 4 police officers. This shows that even in a pandemic people are still willing to fight the unjust and racist police system, even preparing to get tear gassed during the protests and filming it all to account for any injustice acts by the police. It especially shows the reality of having such an incompetent, unjust, racist president at this time; he is someone who refers to white protesters protesting the stay at home orders as "very nice people" while referring to black protesters fighting for human rights and equality "THUGS." Not only this but he publicly stated on twitter that the police are allowed to shoot protesters, threatening them basically. -

Watching from the inside

Doctor Explains Why He Supports George Floyd Protests Amid Pandemic
Looking at protests across the country, I've wondered what the implications are for the pandemic. Los Angeles Shuts Coronavirus Testing Centers Due to George Floyd Protests
The public health implications of the George Floyd protests are interesting and scary to consider. Shutting down COVID-19 testing centers in one of the country's largest cities will surely have an impact on managing the pandemic which still rages on. However, the protests of George Floyd's death are an important development for social justice and advocating for reforms. I worry for the safety and health of everyone involved in the protests as well as the public health implications of not testing for the virus in one of the country's largest cities. It seems almost impossible to strike the right balance in this case. -

Can protest be a justice?
Amind CoVid-19 pandemic, the killing of an African-American citizen George Floyd agitated the anger of all his fellows of African descendants and other civil right activists. People went onto the street and road to stand off against the partols and law enforcement officers. However, a fundamental question is if the protesting itself helps give Mr.Flyod the alleged justice or more needs to be done systematically and internally? -

Fargo, ND Rally for George Floyd - Masks Left Behind
On May 25, 2020 George Floyd was killed by police officers in Minneapolis, MN. Since then, riots and protests have rocked the United States. Most recently, a protest took place in Fargo, ND on May 30 beginning at 10 am. As I write this the protestors have just moved from gathering outside the police station to marching down one of the busiest roads in town. I just find such irony in the fact that just weeks ago people were marching outside state capitols about their freedom being taken away as they were being asked to wear masks. Today, while marching for equality for all people, masks are being handed out and worn by almost all attendees. These protests have so far remained peaceful. -

What's on my mind?
What’s on your mind? Honestly always my homework and everything going on that's on social media. I'm always thinking “did I do this?, did I do that?” and always stressing about getting my homework handed in on time. I feel like school has been harder lately. I feel like I'm not really learning anything and I feel like everyone's more concerned about passing their classes than actually learning what's going on in the lesson. We’ve been getting a lot more homework then we usually do in my opinion. It's a little hard to keep up with all of the work but it's ok we have two weeks left until school is over so we won't be getting any work after these two weeks and we won't be getting too much since we are finishing up all of the lessons we’ve done. Moving on to social media. Everyone is talking about George floyed, a black man killed by a white cop by not being able to breathe because of the cop and saying he couldn't breathe numerous times and with people trying to help and say something about it the cop didn't listen. A few weeks ago before this event a man named Ahmaud Arbery was shot and killed by two white men for absolutely nothing that was that serious for him to have his life taken away. These two events make me feel absolutely disgusted and even feel embarrassed to be white. These events force other cultures to talk about how white people do this and that and it makes the white people who aren't racist feel embarrassed and disgusted and uncomfortable in their own skin. Racism in this world needs to be stopped. It's 2020! Why are we STILL being racist? Towards a human being who has a family and a life. We are being racist and treating them like crap for what? Their skin color? That's disgusting. Black people are now being ashamed to be who they are because of white people constantly hating and doing horrible things to them. Cops need to have boundaries. If the person they are trying to arrest is already handcuffed what are they holding him down for? Why did they have to stop his breathing? He was already handcuffed. The cops take advantage of their jobs and should have their limits as well as we do. I'm not saying every cop is like this but there's a lot that are racist and use their advantage of being a cop. That’s all. -

Contrast
People took notice as the pandemic protesters (mostly white) screamed in officers faces with no harm coming to them. While black Americans meet with police brutality in staggering numbers.
