An Instructional Aid's Unusual Everyday Life at an Elementary School in 2021
12/10/21 Once I enter the school, I must be wearing a mask and have cleaned/sanitized my hands. Once I reach my classroom, I see a clean and disinfected classroom. It is part of my job to make sure the students stay in a safe, risk-free environment where they can learn without the fear of transmitting diseases such as COVID. I use special wipes that were given to eveery classroom that is specifically designed to kill germs found in COVID-19 strains when I wipe desks, chairs, toys, books, ect. Pencils have always been kept in the classroom and now, so are lysol spray bottles! When the kids get to class, they must keep their masks on, or they atleast try to. I work with SPED, so it's hard for them to follow this rule consistently for various reasons, i.e., the feeling of the mask might be too much stimulation for them at times. They sanitize their hands before and after each recess, as well as lunch, and when they need to use the restrooms, only two students are permitted in the bathroom at a time. This is to reduce traffic, therefore keeping the children safer from germs and contamination. Lastly, before the students go home, I clean and disinfect everything all over again, for their safety, as well as mine. Being an instructional aid also means being a cleaning nanny! -

A lesson I have learned as a result of the pandemic is to always wash your hands, and be thankful for what you have. Going through a pandemic has shown me to not take life for granted. I have also learned different ways to work and communicate with others in a safe way. @wynneisnotcool @elysezamora @annarumley27 @zane_zamora -

Covid, Quarantine and Protest
While looking at this photo it reminds me of how even in disaster people are brought together. This photo resembles how society has began to change, you see the masks which wasn’t a norm until the pandemic had occurred. The people have come together in order to change a fault within the government. In order for the government to change what is wrong they need to hear the voices of the people and create laws to prevent the action from happening again. Records are kept in many ways but photos have been the best way, photos have given major representation and gives the audience a chance to interpret the picture and understand the time period. Due to the pandemic many people have had to been quarantined but during this quarantine many were able to access the internet and news spread like a wildfire. Everyone was able to understand the injustices that were occurring and were able to make a change. The photo to me, represents bravery and dedication despite any and all conflicts. -

My 2020 COVID-19 Story
Everything with COVID is different, there is alot that we need to do to prevent the spread of the virus. The spread is vapid, friends are getting it, family members are getting it. We were under quarantine for quite some time, and we were doing virtual learning. The virtual learning was rough, everyone was unprepared for the situation. Not only was the virtual learning hard, but so was maintaining your mental health. Staying home and not having much interaction with people other than your family is a bit rough. You will want to keep yourself occupied, and that can by with anything, drawing, going for a walk/run, watching TV, cooking/baking. Anything to keep you entertained and active in some type of way. This quarantine has been far from easy but it is what needed to be done for the sake of everybody's health. The world is going to be different for quite sometime now, the masks and social distancing seem to be the new normal for a while. But until that's over with everyone has to just do their part so this can all end faster. Washing your hands, not touching your mask unless you've sanitized, putting your mask somewhere clean when you take it off such as a zip lock bag, and getting a new mask everyday. You have to do your part the right way or it won't work, you'll just be cross contaminating germs and you will end up getting sick. -

Covid-19 Memes from the Anime Community
I like anime and have been feeling depressed during the pandemic. Silly memes like these make me smile. (For reference, "weeb" is a shortened version of "weeaboo", which is someone who really likes anime). A lot of people who have nerdy hobbies like watching anime have spent much of quarantine inside indulging in their hobbies but many are wanting to go back to normal life. Some things from normal life that have been canceled due to COVID-19 is the ability to go to anime conventions and bookstores, where many weebs can hangout and meet with each other. The frustration from the "anti-mask" movement and the lack of decline in coronavirus cases has spawned many anime memes promoting mask wearing and proper handwashing during the pandemic. (The image of Unit 01 (the purple robot) "washing" their hands is currently hanging on my bathroom door at home). -

Working during a Pandemic
This summer I was lucky enough to be able to work. Not only being able to work in a pandemic but with kids nonetheless. While the start of summer camp already changed, we were not able to leave our building for outside activities, and only a certain number of kids were aloud for each grade. We soon would progress to everyone above the age of six wearing a mask. While at first the kids did not understand why now they had to were the mask, by the end of summer they were used to it. This was a huge learning experience for everyone, including parents and employees. The employees are to temp check and hand washing before clocking in and doing tons of cleaning throughout the day. As well as making sure they wash their hands as well at the children. Parents cannot come inside, the kids will get temp checked at the door before entering, as well as them washing their hands upon arrival. While working now is scary because you never know what is going to happen these days if I or a coworker is gonna contract it. Every week it's a am I healthy? Are my family and friends healthy? Is my workplace safe? To be honest, working now does feel safe and weirdly so, with the constant cleaning and mask-wearing, I feel as if we are taking all the precautions necessary. God Willing, we will be able to keep this up. It a strange time we live in at the moment and by working it helps keep my mind off the scary reality we face today. -

Métis artist creates 'wash your hands' posters in 21 Indigenous languages
"The Métis artist decided to take two of her pieces and, using translations she found on an Indigenous Services Canada website, add the recommendation to 'wash your hands' in 21 Indigenous languages." "There's a lot of elders that don't speak the English language fluently, so to see something in their own language would be comforting, just knowing that somebody cares enough to take the time to give you something in the language of your own upbringing." - Colleen Gray -

Wash Hands Before Entering
These photographs taken of the east side of a local Wichita grocery store depict the continuing efforts businesses are taking to stem the spread of the coronavirus. Positioned just off the east parking lot, this recently-installed hand-washing station makes clear in both English and Spanish that it is not for any use other than sanitation. With medical professionals touting masks and thorough, 20-second hand-washing as some of the most effective means of prevention, images like this reflect how stores are attempting to ensure customer and employee safety as much as possible by making hygienic facilities as widely available as possible, even before a customer even enters the store. -

All Set With Nothing to Do
This is a humorous statement about the facts of life during quarantine, especially during the beginning phase. Many of us couldn’t work, we couldn’t go out—the “non-essential” stores, movie theaters, malls, restaurants, and bars were all closed, so there was nowhere to go anyway. This is funny because the author was very well-rested and all set to take on the day, but there was really no day to “take on.” He or she expresses our quandary well. We’re up, ready to go, but there is nowhere to go and nothing to do. -

"Hand Washing" Comic
A four panel comic from Dami Lee's ongoing autobiographical comedic series, in which she references the common usage of songs, particularly their choruses, to indicate the length of time one should wash one's hands to safely reduce the risk of infection with coronavirus and other pathogens. She then jokes about her own tendency to end up singing the entire song, therefore getting her hands very clean. -

"Wash Yer Mitts, Lads" Sign
This photograph was taken while driving through the intersection of Carp Rd. and March Rd. in the National Capital Region. It shows a roadside advertising board, in front of the town sign for the village of Carp, which reads "Wash Yer Mitts Lads" referring to the medical advise to wash your hands often to prevent the spread of the covid-19 virus. While other signs exist with similar sentiments, this sign is unique in that it is not visually associated with a business or public entity. Its lack of context gives the impression that it is a message from the community to its members rather than an advertisement or a public health announcement. What is more, the phrasing and spelling of the word "yer" emulates the slang and accent of the Ottawa Valley, further connecting it to the community in which it is situated and making it more lighthearted. While still a warning or admonishment to prevent the spread of the disease, this sign also pokes fun at the current situation in a very local manner. -

You Do You
Given the way this virus has inserted itself into our lives, its effects can be felt by almost everyone. In order to stave off the inaction that can easily sneak in and attach itself to me, I have resolved to do two things. Make my bed and take a shower every day. I'm not saying that anyone else has to do them. It's okay to not master a new language or learn the harpsichord. But for me, if I do nothing one day, that soon turns into three or four days of doing nothing. When I see creativity on the web from people all around the globe, I'm inspired. So, I put artwork or drawing and painting tutorials online in the hopes that it might inspire others to be creative. You don't have to create something massive or incredible. Sometimes it's the little things that make a difference to someone else. So, that's the way to do it. Do something. Do you paint? Do you draw? Do you build furniture? Are you a whiz when it comes to growing turnips? Whatever it is, show it to others. Step outside yourself for a minute and maybe be that inspiration for someone else. Or not. There's a lot to be said for just keeping it together and getting up every day. If that's what you got - do that. Just wash your hands. -

A handwashing station set up in the doorway of Faubourg Wines in New Orleans, before the city went on complete lockdown. As of today that was only two weeks ago, yet it feels like eons.
