Little Rock and Relief
This article details the $19 million dollars in aid Arkansas' capital received from the federal government. As part of the American Rescue Plan, many larger cities are receiving direct aid from the federal government and Little Rock previously received $18.8 million in May of 2021. The city has decided to allocate much of the funds to improving public works, renovations, and policing. It is interesting to see just how excessively covid impacted cities and the extreme necessity of federal aid. It is particularly beneficial when state legislatures have failed to provide money for needed refurbishment. However, payouts such as this begs the question: who will pay? -

D.C. Kept Swimming Open During the Pandemic. It May Have Saved Me.
This is a story I wrote in Washington, D.C. in January 2021, during the pandemic, and in the immediate aftermath of the January 6 attack on the US Capitol. I had taken up swimming during the pandemic because the city happened to keep some pools open for lap swimming. This new activity brought me solace and comfort during a very difficult time for our city, our nation, and for me personally. This story captures all of this and distills it into a single poignant and emotional moment of solitude and togetherness at the end of the story. -

Future Historians
Dear Historians of the Future, In 2020, there was a pandemic that occurred known as COVID-19 that made drastic changes in terms of restaurants, traveling internationally, school and work. One of my biggest pieces of advice is to ensure the president you have is not a narcissist or a leader who does not take responsibility for the bad things that happen. According to the article “Donald Trump owns the Coronavirus,” published on March 9, 2020, by a senior economist Dean Baker, this document explains how COVID impacted the community and what experiences people faced. Reading this article will allow you to understand the ability to have directorship in guiding the country to a better path then shifting it to the left. For instance, the reading states “It is very likely that we will face a recession as people cancel travel plans and are reluctant to go out to restaurants, sporting events and other public places.” Because of Trump, Americans and the people that live in it had to cancel many of their plans as a result of Trump not taking accurate information into consideration. He was mainly focused on putting blame towards China or the democrats, rather than looking for solutions with CDC. During the pandemic, many people believed Donald Trump was responsible for the Coronavirus outbreak in the U.S. in the article, Baker concludes: “In short, the fact that we are likely facing a serious pandemic, unlike any we have seen in more than a century, is 100 percent Trump’s fault. Because of his vanity and ineptitude, people will die, and many more will get sick.” This article demonstrates how Trump did not care to take action when the pandemic initially began. Because of this, one can say when it comes to having a narcissist president like Trump, leadership plays a role in situations like this for the world. In conclusion, I chose this source to explain my experience of the pandemic and what challenges people faced. In other words, this article will help you understand how the pandemic had an impact on many people's lives. If president Trump initially took action when he first started receiving news about the COVID, people would still be employed and parents would not have to stay home with their children. The negative aspect of this is some families struggled financially as a result of the pandemic and staying unemployed. -

How social justice protests could affect the 2020 election
This article by Jenesse Miller looks at the campaign strategies of Joe Biden and Donald Trump as the social justice protests occur in the wake of police brutality. From the article, "Both Biden and Trump made plans to visit Kenosha in the wake of the civil unrest in that city. Trump toured businesses that had been damaged during riots and praised law enforcement, while Biden’s campaign announced he would hold a community meeting and speak with the family of Blake, who was shot seven times by police. Each candidate’s actions were carefully choreographed to appeal to specific voters among their respective bases of support, but will their plans work?" -

Campaigning during Covid
This is a video from Nov. 7., the day Biden was announced as President-elect. I was walking through Boystown in Chicago with my roommate to pick up dinner for the evening and lots of people were out celebrating. Celebrating in a COVID-friendly way...it may be hard to tell in the video but everyone was spaced out respectfully with masks! An unusual time but an important one to remember. -

Over 130 COVID-19 cases in the Secret Service
The Washington Post reported that over 130 members of the Secret Service are either in quarantine or have contracted the virus. 130 people accounts for around 10% of the total number of secret service agents. The outbreak comes as a result of the amount of traveling President Donald Trump did before the election. The White House has received massive amount of criticism for their lack of care. -

Tik Tok
I resisted joining Tik Tok, and working on the archive I saw that some of the submissions were from this application, but I wasn't interested in learning a new platform. Then, when NPR started reporting that President Donald J Trump was going to ban downloading the app, I decided to download it and see what it was like. It's a funny amalgamation of short videos, sometimes music, that ranges from bizarre to hilarious. I keep seeing videos from the member TreyTV who does hilarious impressions of DJT, this one is a spin off the Idaho man who make a Tik Tok to a Fleetwood Mac song while drinking Ocean Spray. I have to say, as bleak as thing are right now, it feels so great to laugh. -

Covid-19 and The Media
This article serves to inform the public of President Trump’s current condition after being diagnosed with Covid-19. It talks about how the doctors taking care of Trump contradict themselves when talking about his health condition and it leaves people wondering if he is in a worse state than they are making him out to be. I chose this article because I haven’t heard anything about Trump since he was diagnosed with Covid-19 and I wanted to know the latest news on his condition. This article shows how much of an impact Covid-19 is currently having in our Country. The President getting diagnosed with a disease right before the election can obviously have massive repercussions in the political world and America as a whole. This article is important because it lets people see the current state of our President in this crucial time and see the severity of what's going on. There is no bias that I could find in this article because the headlines, wording, sources, and even the pictures all have a very neutral standpoint. The article is simply presenting the facts and evidence they gathered from various sources. The responsibility of the media during the Covid-19 pandemic is to inform people of the situation around the world and spread the importance of safety. The pandemic has obviously started a lot of conflicts that can be seen all throughout the media, but the main priority of all people should be ensuring the safety of themselves and others around them. -

Amid the COVID19 pandemic, many people peacefully protested with gloves and masks, the racial injustices happening in the United States. After days of Black Lives Matter movement protest against police brutality towards Black folks, peaceful protesters gathered in front of White House. They were confronted with police in riot gear. All the exterior lights of the White House were shut off and the President was rumored to take shelter inside the bunker. -

Coronavirus causes wave of fake new
The Coronavirus is just a new way for the media to badger President Donald Trump. First when Trump called it the Chinesevirus he was immediately attacked by media and was being portrayed as a racist for saying something that is simply true. Then he was asked many questions about that comment. The media is also claiming that the coronavirus attacks African American more then white people. The media should stop attacking Trump and scaring American citizens with FAKE NEWS. *Date as submitted: 11:16 AM 5/6/2020 -

European Joke about US response
A British doctor says: "In Britain, medicine is so advanced that we cut off a man's liver, put it in another man, and in 6 weeks, he is looking for a job." The German doctor says: "That's nothing, in Germany we took part of a brain, put it in another man, and in 4 weeks he is looking for a job." The Russian doctor says: "Gentlemen, we took half a heart from a man, put it in another's chest, and in 2 weeks he is looking for a job." The American doctor laughs: "You are all behind us. A few years ago, we took a man with no brain, no heart, and no liver and made him President. Now, the whole country is looking for a job!" -
