WHO Warns About the Dangers of Health Misinformation as Musk Takes Over Twitter
This is a news story from Bloomberg News by Andy Hoffman and Clara Hernanz Lizarraga. Since Elon Musk has officially acquired Twitter, it has prompted groups like the World Health Organization to give warnings on COVID misinformation. Mike Ryan, the executive director of the health emergencies program at the WHO issued a statement on Musk buying Twitter for $44 billion dollars. “When anyone reaches a position in life where they have so much influence over the way information is shared with communities, they take on a huge responsibility,” Ryan said at the media briefing in Geneva. “We wish Mr. Musk luck with his endeavors to improve the quality of information we all receive.” Throughout the pandemic, the WHO has worked to make sure correct information about the pandemic and vaccines are being spread. The WHO has an overall fear now that bad information could be spread more easily about COVID and possibly cause more death. -

Thoughts on Covid-19 Vaccine and Blood Clots: Social Media Screenshot
As someone who has studied the history of disease and epidemics, I know that disease causes widespread fear and panic. The uncertainties and unknowns of disease cause people to question themselves, others, and even medical professionals. Sometimes, questioning and being skeptical is what saved lives. For example, questioning Dr. Rush's treatment methods in the yellow fever epidemic of Philadelphia or questioning miasma theory during the outbreaks of cholera in London. Recently, there have been cases of blood clots as a result of the Covid-19 vaccine. This is a screenshot of what WHO has to say about the blood clots and a comment from myself. While I would love to get the vaccine, and I was originally hopeful about getting it, I'm not too scared and unsure what to do. Although WHO says cases of blood clots are rare, there are still many people like myself who are skeptical and only want to make the right decision for their own health and life. With talk of possible mandated vaccines, I am uncertain about what the future will look like for me and others like me. -

COVID Impacts
This article by the World Health Organization (WHO) talks about the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on people’s livelihoods. The article says “tens of millions of people are at risk of falling into extreme poverty.” As a human living in a two story house that is food secure, this may just seem like a number. But extreme poverty is a human rights violation, and it is already clear the pandemic’s ripples are affecting people in serious ways. Further in the article, it starts to talk about the effects on the food and trade industry, which includes issues with closed borders, farmers being able to sell their food, and even people accessing healthy foods. The article ends by acknowledging the opportunity we have to rebuild a better world, and I find comfort in this thought. -

Covid-19 Experience
poem The world was fine, Because we were all able to physically intertwined. We were able to roam the streets freely, Walk the park carelessly, Praise in church effortlessly, And enter our homes easily. For the past year, Livelihood has been invaded by a monster called covid-19. The WHO has declared a world pandemic. New protocols in place in order to win drastically. We are told to stay indoors, Wash our hands frequently and wear a mask when outdoors. No more social gathering, visiting friends or family. Life has become a solitary If we disobey, The monster virus will lend our life journey. Thousands have been killed and millions affected. It attacks the human lungs, That makes breathing feel like misery. Compared to the flu, It makes one sneeze and cough, With unbearable body pain. We just got to keep praying that God keeps and protects us during this time. Despite the introduction of a weapon vaccine to take control. The frustration, anxiety and fear kicks in daily. Still wondering when will life return to normalcy. -

Coptic Church suspends services for one month over surge in COVID-19 infections
The Coptic Orthodox Church of Egypt issued new guidelines in early December to protect congregants and members of the clergy. As Egypt’s second wave, the Orthodox Church in Egypt acted, working to slow the spread. While limits on certain gatherings took place to adequately social distance, most events were canceled altogether. The Church limited the number of people who could attend Mass and funerals, as well as limited seminaries and institutions to 25% capacity for classrooms. -

Ready for Round 2
Scanning facebook, I came across this article stating that the number of Covid cases in Europe are increasing again. This is disheartening because recently the number of cases of covid had seemed to be leveling off and declining. As the pandemic began in Europe and Asia before the US, this could be an indicator of things to come for us if we are not vigilant. Hopefully, this is just a small hiccup and not a major setback. -

Coronavirus is Airborne
The coronavirus emphasis in the beginning was always on washing our hands and the time period that it could remain active on various surfaces. As it has changed and developed, scientists and doctors have struggled to understand its nature while the public has been somewhat resistant to trusting the advice of professionals. Dr. Ding is highlighting the importance of everyone being on the same page and keeping the info as current as is possible. This item was added TAGS v6.1.9.1. I originally searched under the hashtag #airborne. Within that search, I have chosen to add the following tweet because it showcases the concerns of doctors that are struggling to understand the ever-changing nature of the coronavirus. It also shows the struggles between medical professionals and the WHO Link to the NYT article (https://www.nytimes.com/2020/07/04/health/239-experts-with-1-big-claim-the-coronavirus-is-airborne.html) -
