The Balcony: My Families Sanctuary
During the first, and most unknown parts of the pandemic, my family and I were in a small apartment in Miami. There was less information about the pandemic, so we weren't really leaving the house for anything, and our only access to the outside world was a small balcony. We had never really used the balcony, or the apartment for that matter, but it was a safe place where we could regain our sanity at the end of the day, together. Whether this was my mom and I reading our books, or my entire family watching the sunset, listening to music, and talking, we could not have made it through those first few months of the pandemic without this outside space. -

Corona DJ
When faced with boredom, you either figure out a way to do something, or you rot away in peril. During the early stages of the pandemic, Italy was one of the hardest-hit countries in the world, the Italians would have to figure out how to do something when faced with the attached boredom. The residents in an unnamed neighborhood would innovate with this boredom in a fanatisic way. One of the residents happened to be a DJ and set up his rig to play to the whole block. -

Clarinetist Tim Laughlin performed every day on his Royal Street balcony from 5:30-6pm, offering a little bit of entertainment to substitute for the cancelled Jazzfest. This is from April 29. -

Italian Husband Can't Tolerate Wife's Recorder Playing
Americans were enchanted with videos of Italians singing together from their balconies. It showed such great spirit and making the most of a most difficult situation. This particular video shows a wife who is exhibiting no musical talent at all, and the husband can't take it any more. I found this video on Instagram with the caption of "Us, tomorrow," showing that living together 24/7 is very stressful on a marriage. -
