A Birthday To Remember: Celebrating With A 50 Participant Surprise Zoom Party!
We were invited to partake in a surprise Zoom call for a dear friend's 39th birthday. Our friend's partner asked all attendees to arrive to the virtual party 10 minutes before the official start time of 7 p.m. with a favorite celebratory drink in hand. Over 50 participants arrived on time for the call and stayed as long as 2.5 hours. Friends connected via the messaging chat function of Zoom, as well as through live video. Since we are unable to show our love for someone in person during the COVID-19 shelter-in-place, it is heartwarming that people still choose to show up the best they can for those they love. -

No More Different, Please
I really want more than really anything right now to go back to my usual routine and especially go back to swim practice. I am really fed up with doing different cross training to try to make my swimming not suck. It feels like even though I have been swimming competitively for seven years like I am not a swimmer. I haven’t even been in the water or gone to a practice in almost two months. I really don’t like how even if I go outside and go to a store that is open everything is so different and I can’t help wondering if these changes are going to last. Today I woke up I think the latest I have ever woken up. The difference is that when I saw how late it was, I jumped out of bed and got straight to work. I finished my workout so early that I got to make doughnuts. If COVID-19 had not happened I would have not learned all of the recipes I got to learn. However, I might have had my championship swim meet and been a better swimmer. *Original text in Creator: Nicole Dumitrascu #LSMS #NSD -

Go Back to Normal!!!
I have learned in this quarantine that is you want to do something and not be lazy, then you must attack it head on and just go for it. The hardest part of accomplishing something is definitely starting. If you can start the thing you want, then you are more motivated to finish it because you have already spent time and effort trying to accomplish the thing you want. Even when I get out of this quarantine, I am going to try to apply this to my daily life. I really wonder when things are going to get back to normal, or if things will go back to normal. This might be the new normal which is a scary thought. I hope this is not the new normal because I had a plan for my future. Well kind of, but this is definitely not what I had planned. I am trying to remember that it is not about what I want for my future or what I think is supposed to happen in my life. It is about God’s plan and what he wants to happen in my life. *Original text in Creator: Nicole Dumitrascu #LSMS #NSD -

Birthday wishes during a pandemic can still come true.
Maya wanted to celebrate her 6th birthday at the pool. Per state law, Arizona pools were closed. I even tried local hotels to see if any would let me rent a room in order to access the pool. No luck. In the end, we decided to bend some local rules and try to swim in Rio Salado, gaining access via the boat launch. We swam in the warm water for about an hour before a park official warned us that the police could ticket us. It was almost nap time for the 1 yo, and we were ready to leave anyway. It wasn't a pool, but we did get to swim. The day was declared a success by my 6yo who declared it "the best birthday ever." Quarantine Birthday
Today my baby sister Elena turned five years old. She has just been a light and a breath of fresh air ever since she has entered this world. I have loved watching her grow up and learn new things. She may be trying at times, but things always seem to pan out perfectly. I love her so much. I pray that God protect her and watch over her all the days of her life. Please guide her and help her grow in her faith in you, Lord. We had so many fun surprises in Elena’s birthday celebrations. I made her breakfast, waffles with chocolate shaped in a cute animal with blueberries for its eyes and mouth and a blackberry for the nose. Then we dropped her off at preschool with cupcakes. Then, once she came home, we ate lunch. After that we took photos in our homemade photobooth. Then we played Pin-the-Moustache-on-the-Kitty. Elena won of course. Since she won, we gave Elena cake as a surprise for her win. After that we did the pinata. Lastly, we had presents. Today was a good day. #LSMS #NSD -

Prepping for a Quarantine Birthday
My sister has been jumping for joy this entire day because tomorrow is her birthday. She is turning five. She is so young and excited for this one day of the year. Her excitement has rubbed off on me and brought me some joy during this quarantine. I am sad though that her birthday cannot be as good as it could be because of the coronavirus. She has never experienced a party with her friends. I am motivated in spite of everything to do everything in my power to make her birthday special. I planned everything, made a pinata, went to buy decorations and a cake, and am going to cook her breakfast and doughnuts. I know it is a lot, but I really believe that God will give me the strength to bear it and make Elena’s 5th birthday amazing. I know it will take a lot of work and it won’t be easy, but I am ready and excited to take on the challenge. I also need to in this time do my school for the day. I won’t say I’m stressed because this is just a small party among our family to make Elena happy on her special day. I hope everything goes well. #LSMS #NSD -

Quarantine Mother's Day
Today I tried to make my day more interesting by staying more focused on what I was doing right at that moment. I feel like this helps me to make the day go by faster and have a better quality of the things I did. Today I did my workout and then helped my mom make my pinata for my sister’s 5th birthday. We took a pizza box and covered it in different colored and cut streamers. We also put a picture of a unicorn in the center since that is the theme of the party. Even though it took a really long time and hurt my back my mother and I had a lot of fun and were very proud with the results. This Mother’s Day I was more thankful that ever for my mother because she is the one who has kept my family together during this tough time. The coronavirus has made this day different since my family would normally treat my mother to her favorite restaurant. I don’t even know what is open or if something will ever open which is a scary thought. #LSMS #NSD -

Quarantine Struggles
Today I did my usual routine: I stretched, ate breakfast, did my school for the day, worked out, read my book, played with my sister, relaxed, and ate dinner. For my relaxation today I just watched YouTube and my favorite show to watch with my mom, Flea Market Flip. There are also a lot of free movies and shows because of quarantine. I have been trying to make my routine the same things, but different things each time. For example, I will still run every day, but changed my speeds and rest. I am also trying to find time to do those things that I have always wanted to do. For example, I am overseeing planning my little sister’s 5th birthday party. I will be able to get out of the house and go to a store, this time Walmart, for the first time in over a month. I am super excited to plan games and crafts for the whole family to do because my sister cannot invite her friends from preschool. *Original text in "Creator:" Nicole Dumitrascu #LSMS #NSD -

A special day
This photo was taken on my birthday, Saturday May 2nd, 2020, and it shows my cousin and I. This photo is really important to me because my cousin and I have became really close over time. We FaceTime everyday and we make many memories. She is one of my best friends and I love her very much. She is very funny and crazy, and I can’t ask for a better friend/cousin. We would sometimes come to each other’s house unexpectedly, and then spend the whole day together. She is always there for me, and I am always there for her. -

Notes During Class 5
This image is apart of a series of screenshots taken during lessons via Microsoft Teams.Teaching my third graders from afar has become a challenge and a blessing at the same time. None of us knew of Mr. Microsoft Teams until we were forced to meet him. The way he impacts our lives is sometimes frustrating and other times satisfying. Unlike classroom noise, the chat that goes on during lessons are now mixed in with the lesson and available for all to participate- including the teacher! It's silent and said with caution and other times daring. (I've blurred the faces and redacted the names to protect the students' privacy.) -

Friendships in the times of COVID-19
During the times of COVID-19, the relationship dynamics between roommates evolve as they shift from being mere roommates to teammates in the battle of staying alive and healthy. COVID-19 demands negotiating new rules, new ways of communicating, new responsibilities, and importantly: new lasting friendships. It is interesting to see how the pandemic both tests and strengthens the bonds between roommates as we navigate responding to each other’s needs. COVID-19 has presented a series of challenges with one of the negative impacts of social distancing, including coping with loneliness. The privilege of living with friends helps boost morale and mental health as we are constantly reminded that we are going through this not alone, but together. Pictured is my roommate celebrating her twenty-second birthday on our back porch on a sunny day in April. Although it is not how she imagined she would spend her birthday, friendship and company offer a silver lining during the coronavirus pandemic. #DePaulHST391 -

Birthday during COVID-19.
My 21st birthday happen to fall in the middle of this pandemic, concequently not allowing me to see my family in person to celebrate. As a result, we scheduled a massive zoom meeting where about 20 members of close friends and family gathered to play games online and sing happy birthday in lieu of celebrating in person. #REL101 -

Happy Birthday and the Fear of Covid19
Today was my dad’s 59th birthday and it was crazy that we couldn’t really celebrate. This whole Covid19 feels like a bad dream or a scary movie to be honest. It is also Easter and it is strange that we couldn’t do our typical events and Easter egg hunt for our nephews. It is so tragic turning on the news and seeing how many people have died from this terrible virus. This whole experience doesn’t even feel real at times. I feel lucky that my family is still safe, but I worry about my brother who has to work every single day surrounded by customers. I fear he will get sick or my sister in law. I am lucky that I have limited contact with people, but my job still requires me to meet others. It is scary how people have also reacted to this event and hoarded so much toilet paper and supplies. I am terrified every time I go to the grocery store to get supplies and food. There is never toilet paper or paper towels. Trying to find certain things such as meat or cheese or even eggs is close to impossible at my local grocery store. It is insane that there is not even a bottle of soap or any Lysol to purchase. I miss my nephews and I miss going to school. I am so lucky compared to so many others, but I am still terrified for the future. This feels like a scary movie or an episode of Doom’s Day Preppers. -

22
It has been hard not seeing my friends for my 22 birthday. Over the past 4 years they have become more than my friends; they are my family. I came home for spring break March 4th expecting to come back before the 24th, but then it was extended until 22nd. Earlier this week, the president made all flights out of the New York area a mandatory quarantine for 2 weeks after they land. I do not want to put my roommates in a position where they cannot leave the home to get groceries. So I am waiting until everything dies down before I get to see them.
