Trisha Vaughn Oral History, 2021/03/18
Trisha Vaughn is the CPT Supervisor for a large Bay Area community hospital. In her spare time, Trisha hosts a podcast with her daughter, is an avid writer, and she is starting a small apothecary business to sell her skin care creations. In the oral history interview, Trisha shares how she has navigated through Covid-19 in both her personal life, and as an essential worker. She reflects on staying motivated and helping the people in her life stay motivated thought these hard times. Trisha describes how the social injustices and civil unrest in response to police brutality during the pandemic has affected her and those around her and about how the urgency of the pandemic has overshadowed the injustices faced by people of color across the nation. -

Graduate student at ASU, Angelica S Ramos interviews mother of four, Jennifer Martin of Kentucky, to get her first-hand experience of being a working mom during COVID. In this interview, they discuss the hardships of motherhood, how the routine of the household has changed and the hardships Jennifer has encountered. Jennifer also expresses excitement for moving out of the suburbs and into a farm, a decision which was made during COVID. -

Winter in Summer
The emotional malaise that, for many people, accompanies winter has now become a year-round morass. Many of the people I know associate summertime with social gatherings and a greater sense of community, and due to restrictions on social gatherings in accordance with social distancing, we are left feeling hollow from prolonged loneliness. The most severe affliction of a pandemic is the effect on our health, but like in the treatment of many diseases, the measures taken to stop the problem often feel as pervasive and unpleasant as the problem itself. There is no choice but to stay committed to social distancing until the situation changes, but for the first time in my adult life, I am feeling what it is like to live in a society that is under a great burden akin to wartime or economic depression. -
