Pandemic public bus
Photo credit goes to the Coronavirus Chronicle Facebook page. The photo shows the locked front part of the MTA bus. This photo directly connects to my experience of taking buses during the surge of the Covid-19 pandemic in March and April 2020. I observed absolutely the same picture of the bus interior every single day on my daily trip to work. The front of the bus was purposely locked by crisscrossed chains and two safety belts. Hence passengers could not get on the bus in the front and the machine that took trip payment money and cards also were not available for public use. Passengers had a free ride throughout the pandemic on all NYC buses. MTA drivers avoided close airborne contact with other people to keep themselves safe and not lose their in-person work respectively. Such isolated buses reminded me of a post-apocalypse underground train in one of the parts of the Matrix film. Neo and his fellows had to hide from computer program agents that try to invade their shelter at the abandoned subway system. -

Homesick Holidays
This past Thanksgiving, I was unable to return home for the holidays. Despite being a busy university student, usually I take the Flix bus from Tempe, AZ to Tucson, AZ so that I can spend the short break with my family before returning to school for finals. However, despite all the precautions that I and my roommates had taken, my father still recommended that I stay at my apartment, seeing that he is a first responder and goes outside almost every day. That, combined with a recent COVID-19 scare on my end meant that for Thanksgiving, I decided that it was my first holidays spent alone. -

The ways how Covid-19 is annoying and helping us [ANONYMOUS]
When I go to malls, I usually take buses and sky trains and I can see all the people in buses and trains are wearing their masks. Including children and seniors. When I get any malls, every single person is wearing a mask and getting social distancing. And if there are lots of people in a shop and there is a limitation of capacity of people, and the shop is full, then others who want to go in have to wait for it until the people in the store get out. This thing is one of stressful things for everybody. And when I go to the school, we only take 1 to 2 blocks for a day, and we have to clean our desks and chairs before the classes begin, or after the classes end. This one is really inconvenient. Of course all the students wear their masks for the whole time in the school. We have our cohort zone which makes me and my friends separate. And everyone cannot expect there will be the school next month because the school can be closed whenever if COVID spreads so quickly. Some restaurants take reservations, and some of them don’t. If I get in a restaurant, I have to write my first and last name, the number of people will join together, the time I came in, and the date on a paper. Also all the people (also me) in restaurants have to sanitize their hands before they sit. And people cannot sit before any table is sanitized. People can order by online by taking a code on desks, or order to waiters or waitresses. If I look at the online menu, that is the same as the offline menu. And when I finished to order, I can see what I ordered and the total amount to pay on the online menu. They also appear when I ordered foods offline. I can pay them online. When I park my car on the side of roads, I can pay the time for parking online, also I can add more time online whenever I want. I don’t need to go back to the spot where my car was parked when I need to add more time. Online payment is developed by COVID and it’s convenient! -

GoTo対象 北海道のバスツアーで41人のうち12人感染(2020年10月23日) - GoTo travel: 12 out of 41 people infected on a bus tour in Hokkaido (October 23, 2020)
Go to travel is a program in Japan that covers certain amount of traveling fee in Japan in order for the economy to boost back up. This program has been somewhat controversial I would say because we are still in a pandemic and we should not really travel around, especially Japan has one of the highest numbers of elderly people, and by traveling we could expose them to the virus. Also, I really do not understand how they can just overlook someone when they are having some kind of symptoms. It is very irresponsible for the tour company to do so and risk others to get the virus. It was found that 12 out of 41 participants, were infected with the new coronavirus on a bus tour in Hokkaido, which is a part of GoTo Travel. According to the Yomiuri trip, the infected participants came from the Kansai region in the middle of this month on a 3-night 4-day tour that landed New Chitose Airport and traveled around Hokkaido by bus. Infection was confirmed in 12 out of 41 people, including 38 participants and tour conductors. When the participants arrived at New Chitose Airport, they submitted a check sheet to the tour operator to write down their body temperature and health condition. At this time, one of the participants checked the item "Respiratory symptoms such as coughing and sore throat", but the tour operator overlooked it. After that, this person's infection was confirmed and everyone had to be tested. In Hokkaido, 40 new infections were confirmed on the 22nd. Of these, 31 are in Sapporo, the second-highest number per day in the past. -

Doctor Appointment, COVID- 19, and the MTA
During this Pandemic I have noticed how hard it is to travel in the city. In the beginning my doctor appointments were online and were more uncomfortable than being there in person. Going there in person is even more tricky since they can not let anyone go in to their offices .what is even worse is the traveling to the doctors appointments. I haven't really used the train in such a long time but since my doctors was in Manhattan I had to go on the train. Being in a compact space with people in a not really well ventilated area in a pandemic is not the safest things to do. I feel like COVID has caused me to have new anxiety because I have tried my best to stay away from people. Even before I got on the train my stomach was turning as if I was walking into new territory. I am Brooklyn born and have basically traveled by train everyday and now the idea of going into one was making me feel uneasy. I have also noticed that there were not a lot of people that were scared on the train while I tried to breathe through two masks people were not even wearing them properly . I have noticed that the MTA has put in the new penalty for people that do not wear a mask they will be fined $50, but to be honest it there was a few people in most of the subway stations that I was on with no masks and yet no fines were being placed. Not only was I scared of COVID but there has been a rise of violence in Stations and that scared me even more. Coronavirus has really changed the way that I view traveling when it comes to trains and buses and yet in New York City public transportation is the only way mode of transportation there is to get from one place to another effectively . -

Alexandra Phan Oral History, 2020/07/26
Alexandra "Alex" Phan shares her experience of the pandemic. Alex is a Master's student at the University of Ottawa studying Virology and working in a lab which focuses on emerging viruses- most recently SARS-COV-2 (Covid-19). She describes her activities during the pandemic and the sense that she and other researchers are somewhat removed from the collective trauma the rest of the world is experiencing, as their routines have not changed drastically. She also discusses the changes in student life and what it is like moving out of your parents house/living on your own for the first time in the midst of a tiered lock-down. -

TTC riders question the lack of enforcement after maskless subway protest
"TTC riders are questioning the agency’s priorities after protesters deliberately broke TTC mask rules without repercussion. "Protesters rode the system on Tuesday without face coverings, flouting the TTC’s 'mandatory” mask rule, which the agency has admitted it doesn’t intend to enforce. It argues that its officers can’t tell, simply by looking, who is unable to wear a mask for medical reasons. "Upset riders took to Twitter on Tuesday to question the agency’s priorities given the heavy enforcement of fare evasion policy that included highly visible campaigns and hefty fines." -

Daily life changes due to Covid
Here we have a tweet discussing one of the may daily life changes that have taken place since covid and lockdown began. In this case, the user talks about how bus travel has changed since lockdown in Berlin. Bus divers in Berlin are now behind plastic sheets and the front doors of buses are no longer used in order to protect drivers. Many bus drivers have gotten sick and died due to the large public interaction their job has. I wanted to put this into the archive because it is a simple example of how covid has altered society and daily life. Here we have an example of public transportation being altered, likely permanently, in Berlin due to the virus. Between all the headlines and stats are the real life changes everyone sees, and this is one example. I also took note of the fact that Europe is still in their first lockdown, while we here in America are wondering if there will be a second lockdown since the first one has essentially over for weeks. -

Covid-19 in the Coachella Valley
Here in this picture we can see away to prevent getting near the bus driver by adding caution tape in the middle. Also it was Free for everyone and you could not enter unless you have a mask on. The bus was my daily ride to everywhere I went because I did not have a car. When the Covid-19 started i was afraid they were gonna close down the bus, but they did not. They tried their best for them to be on service because many of the citizens need the bus as a way to travel to work. Not only that, but during that time of the picture everything changed for me. First, all of my classes turned online which was kind of good, but at the same time I missed going to class every Monday to wednesday. Also i lost my job as many people did, but in my citation is that the job was at the street fair and they told me they might even open until next year. All of this has taught me a lesson which is to always be prepared for these situations because one day I can be working, but then out of nowhere I don't have it anymore. Gladly i saved money to pay what i need to pay. Also I've been going hiking and trying to do more exercise at my house. At the end of the day we all need to be patient because great things can happen to us. *This is a picture of how they use caution tape on the bus to prevent anyone to get near the bus driver. -

What Spring has Sprung: Bus Driver vs. Elderly
This photo was taken at the beginning of COVID before it was mandatory to wear a mask. Thus, the bus driver being a non-masker. Nonetheless, he got off the bus to tell the elderly she COULD NOT get on the bus from the front. She was worried because the other two entrances were too high for her. He offered to lift her but she insisted on getting on from the front door. He eventually pulled off without her. -

March 13, 2020
A walk on Friday the 13th. I shot out a roll of photographs on a loaded camera I found around the house. I'd never used the camera before and was unfamiliar with the 2 1/4 inch square negative format. I was able to bike into Manhattan and have this single roll of film processed and scanned at a lab, but now that it's closed I have rolls piling up. My aim is to shoot a single 12 exposure roll during each day of shelter in place. -

Official sign on public transport in Paris, France
This official sign, reminding of the importance of good hygiene, appears on all public transport in Paris. This one - on a number 76 bus - has been doctored with the advice to take used handkerchiefs to the police station. It may represented a feeling that official advice is exaggerated, or simply anti-police sentiment.
