Halloween 2021
She made this costume herself to go trick-or-treating in the City with classmates. Apparently, they don't think high school is too old for that nowadays. Last year, we didn't let her go out and we didn't hand out candy either. With a sick grandmother in the home who uses oxygen, it was just not a risk we could afford. She came back and said that the trick-or-treating was pretty skimpy. We didn't get many kids at home either... but that might have been because Halloween fell on a Sunday this year. -

The Spooky Slide
My parents run trick-or-treating at our door. In usual years, they have a large tub of candy and the rule is you can have as much candy as you can grab with one hand. It has been pretty successful in the past, but was impossible this year. What they decided to do was go to Home Depot and construct a chute where they would send bags of candy to people from 6 feet away. Less people came, but the ones who did were impressed. -

Halloween 2020
Everyone in Chicago LOVES to go all out with the halloween decorations, but this year it was a little different. Along with the classic ghosts in the window and giant cob webs, there were giant contraptions that were built to pass out candy to those who trick-or-treated, in a social distanced manner. This is a picture of someone in Chicago who built a large funnel from their second floor window down to the fence to pass out candy to kids at an appropriate distance. -

No Hocus Pocus Door to Door
The Mayor of Columbus, MS, Robert Smith, and his office issued a public notice on October 22, 2020 that there should be no door to door trick or treating. In place of door to door trick or treating the city and fellow organizers have planned events for trick or treating throughout the city. This action is helpful and thoughtful for all citizens involved. It allows the citizens to remain safe in their homes if they so wish or it gives citizens the opportunity to celebrate Halloween during the pandemic. Of course social distancing will be practiced for all Halloween events. This is important for children to celebrate a fun holiday while practicing social distancing. Also important to realize the safety and health conditions for others that are at high risk for Covid 19. -

Don’t forget the tongs
The closer we get to Halloween the more I’m seeing the creative ways in which people are safely trying to keep the celebration going. This reminder was posted on the Facebook page of Marine Corps base of Hawaii page. My family was stationed there last year and still follow the page now. I chuckled a little when I saw one of the requirements -please use tings while giving away candy. It seems so silly but I guess what ever keeps people safe right? I can understand people’s need to get out and socialize, it seems like very few are willing to continue social distancing. At least people are trying to find alternatives like passing out candy with tongs. Hopefully they won’t get a wave of new COVID cases in base. -

Face Masks are everywhere and everyone is wearing them. There have been many humorous treatments of this "garment." This post claims to have stuffed his or her face mask with M & Ms and munches on them like a horse with an oat bag attached to its mouth. Haha -

The only beso I want/the only kiss I want
This meme is a play on the name of a popular chocolate stuffed with marsh-mellow called "Beso de moza." Beso means kiss in Spanish, so the idea is no besos, no kisses during social distancing. -
