COVID Cases Once Again On the Rise in Arkansas
This article details a recent surge in Arkansas COVID cases. The shocking nature of the rise is the fact that the state's active cases jumped from 197 to 15,125 in a single day. I think this primarily demonstrates the state and the world's rush to reopen, particularly keeping in mind the July 4th holiday, have allowed a sense of deep comfort. However, this comfort can be deadly when individuals who are feeling unwell fail to take precautions to assure the health and safety of themselves and others. While it is encouraging to see life return to a sense of normalcy, this shows that the pandemic is still a present part of our lives. -

This is an article from NHK World-Japan. There have been more COVID-19 cases reported in Tokyo, Japan. However, the article reports that the cases have been in decline despite these new 1,600 cases. The Japan Times website, they have a timeline that discusses the same 1,600 new cases, but also shows an Outbreak map of Japan's current cases, deaths, testing, and other things. This is a reminder that Japan is still struggling with the virus, but there is some hope with the cases decreasing weekly. -

都内の新型コロナ感染者は401人 重症者は54人に(2020年11月25日) - 401 people infected with the new coronavirus in Tokyo, 54 people with severe symptoms (November 25, 2020)
The capital and my home town, Tokyo, has started to have increased number of COVID-19 cases. It is because Japan is doing this GO TO travel campaign and trying to live as if COVID-19 is not happening. From my perspective, they are focusing more on the economy and trying to make Japan look as if it is fine for the Olympics, rather than focusing on the actual citizen’s health. The Tokyo Metropolitan Government announced on the 25th that 401 new cases of coronavirus infection were confirmed and 54 people were seriously ill. The number of seriously ill people reached a record high for the second consecutive day after the state of emergency was lifted. The number of seriously ill people in Tokyo increased by 3 from the previous day to 54. This is the second consecutive day that we have updated the record high since the state of emergency was lifted. In addition, three men and women in their 80s and 90s were confirmed dead. Due to the rapid increase in the number of seriously ill people, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government has decided to request restaurants that serve alcohol to shorten its business hours by 10 pm, except for the restaurants in the islands (that are still in Tokyo province). The period is from 28th of this month to 20th of December. Video translated by Youngbin Noh -

Phoenix Mayor declares crisis as federal government fails to assist
Phoenix Mayor Gallego highlights the city in crisis as corona cases surge. Gallego also notes that her requests for federal assistance have largely been ignored. The Mayor talks about overwhelmed health centers in the state and the lack of tests available. Arizona continues to be a global hotspot for the virus for the past few weeks. As a hometown Phoenician, it saddens me to see my sates role in the pandemic story. Just this week Arizona went back into partial lockdown as ICU's filled up. I want to keep adding Arizona stories to the archive in order to document the poor response here from both the government and public. The state traded in a few weeks of being fully reopened for potentially months of re-lockdown. -

Spain puts region into lockdown again as cases numbers rise
Spain has decided to put a region in Catalonia back into lockdown as case numbers rise. This area of Spain has a population of over 200,00 people. The decision comes as 60 new cases are recorded in a 24 hour span. This news comes as Spain begins to have a slight uptick in new cases. I entered this tweet into the archive for a few different reasons. The main reason was to highlight the drastic measures some nations are taking in order to fully defeat the virus. It only took 60 new cases in a day for an entire region in Spain to be re-locked down. On the other hand, thousands of new daily cases have yet to be enough for some states to full re-lockdown in the US. Spain has also seen a drastic reduction in daily new cases from their peak a few months ago, and actions like this may point to why they have been successful. -

California Reinstates Stay at Home Order
Here in California, the coronavirus has been hitting our state particularly hard. Although things were initially looking up after our efforts as one of the earlier states to impose quarantine. As we began our reopening, there has been an explosion of new cases. Specifically in Orange County, resistance to wearing masks and a rush to return to normal means that just a few weeks after progress, we seem to be back to square one. This item was added TAGS v6.1.9.1. I originally searched under the hashtag #california. Within that search, I have chosen to add the following tweet because it is from a local news source/local reporter that multiple people rely on. Furthermore, it brings state governmental voices into the conversation. (Main article link): https://abc7.com/health/watch-today-gov-newsom-to-give-covid-19-closures-update/6292422/ -

Mississippi Band of Choctaws Criminalize Violation of Quarantine to Help Curb Infection
“The Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians has amended its Tribal Code to criminalize the act of defying COVID-19 quarantine orders or knowingly exposing fellow citizens in an effort to curb rising statistics on the Reservation. As of Tuesday, there were 307 cases among the Native American community in Neshoba County, representing 57 percent of the total cases here. The Tribe announced late last week that its leaders had amended two existing codes and crafted one new law in an effort to slow the spread. First, the Tribe amended Tribal Code Section 3-3-32 — which made it a crime to knowingly expose someone to tuberculosis — to include COVID-19. That crime carries a penalty of up to six months in jail and/or a fine of up to $500.” -

Covid19 in Newyork
I had an internship last year in New york. It's a crowded city. When I got off from work, I have to walk really fast, because if I walk slower than others, there even some bankers would push me to walk forward. They are not intended to do so, just because there are many people get off work during that time. And it's usually a noisy and energetic street. However, during the Covid19 period,it became a quiet street, almost nobody on the street. Also, people on the street would wear masks. I think it's a big change for this street and really shocked my mind. -

The Coronavirus in 6 States
These images show us the unique battle each state is having against the virus. Rather it is people being forced to quarantine in New York City, police forces controlling the number of people going outside in New Jersey, medical professionals in Washington State trying to save people's lives from the virus, scientists testing a vaccine in Detriot, people gathering around their televisions to watch Dr. Amy Acton and Governor Mike DeWine at their press conferences in Ohio, or the government clearing beaches in Florida, one can see the that the virus is not unique to one state. It affects people, regardless of their profession, age, or location. So, one can see a united and individual effort to stop the virus and to protect people from it. -
