Finally got COVID
I finally got sick with COVID after 3 years. I went on a cruise to celebrate my fiancé’s graduation and had to remove my mask when the heat was so bad in Mexico, Belize, and Honduras. I’m mostly worried about getting my fiancé sick who is disabled, but hopefully we don’t live together just yet. I’m currently being isolated in my parents house watching people stream on Twitch.TV and playing Animal Crossing. I had a fever of 101 yesterday, and hopefully am able to return to work on Friday which means I’ll be able to represent my work at Hampton Roads Pride on Saturday. Since it’s pride month, me getting COVID feels very homophobic -

The Little Things
The pandemic hit and many new college students were forced to enjoy their admission celebrations from their homes through their computer screen and Zoom. Still, St. Mary's University pushed forward to make this event memorable and celebrate future incoming Rattlers to their new school. This screenshot is a still shot of the emotions and celebrations early freshmen experienced during the pandemic. Being accepted into university is no small thing, but a Zoom celebration is a small gesture of congratulations that feels very big. -

Mothers Day 2021
I wasnt expecting a take-home craft this year from my Kindergartener especially with covid restrictions mostly still in place. Instead, her teacher and school went above and beyond. We all wore masks and each class took turns in the cafeteria in order to limit the number of people. We were surprised by placemats (spaced six feet apart) with snacks and a water bottle. My daughter was able to show me work and pictures from her Kindergarten year, while I ate my snacks she gave me the sweetest "massage" then read me a book. The kids then got up on stage and sang us a song as best they could. I'm not the sort to cry but I did. I'm not sure if it was because my daughter is just so cute or if it was the realization of how strong she's been this year. Virtual learning was tough, wearing a mask to school was tough, being six during a global pandemic was tough but my daughter showed me that she's tougher. I hope one day she will realize just how much I admire her. -

The Holidays with COVID
Holidays in America means at least for me have always been a time to gather with family and friends to celebrate. Big parties and gatherings have been a staple of the holidays for years. But this past year has been much different than the years before it. With the global pandemic happening the norm of these parties and gathering became inexistent. This year for the holidays I celebrated over what has become the new norm and that is Zoom. Eating and attempting to celebrate with your family on a Zoom call is one of the weirdest things I have experienced. Well it was nice getting to see everyone's faces doing it over a video call is not the way I enjoy. Hopefully things will turn soon as I am growing increasingly annoying by Zoom and video calls. -

Coronaland -- “Life is a Crap-aret”
With Carnival parades cancelled, somebody had the bright idea to start the Krewe of House Floats to (a) make up for it and (b) to offer work to unemployed float artisans. The results have gone beyond everyone's wildest imagination with 5,000+ people signing up in New Orleans, surrounding parishes, and around the world. This House Float on S. Galvez, “Life is a Crap-aret”, celebrated what a shitty year 2020 was. -

New Year, New Hope
This Year of the Ox is coming in much differently than the Year of the Rat. Last year, with the smallest shadow cast over the new year with news of a SARS type virus spreading through China, we were still able to celebrate normally, and thought those who had taken to wearing masks were exaggerating the seriousness of the disease. We had new year’s dinner with family, the kids wore their traditional outfits to school and fed red envelopes to the lion dancers, the city held their annual parade, and we even celebrated at Disneyland’s California Adventure, with local community groups coming in to perform and celebrate. Whether you say “新年快乐,” “Chúc Mừng Năm Mới,” or simply “Happy New Year,” Lunar New year is a huge celebration in our community and that celebration certainly isn’t happening in the same way this year. However, even though it’s tempting to focus on the fact that we’re sequestered at home and are physically separated from family, friends, and big celebrations, there is much optimism with the hope of the vaccine. All day, my phone’s been buzzing with new year messages, most of which end with “may the new year bring better tidings” or “may this new year bring much health.” Even talking to my in-laws for the new year today had an extra sense of joy, because they shared they are getting their second dose of the vaccine on Thursday. With light at the end of the tunnel, we are able to talk for the first time about maybe being able to see each other in person by the spring. When my son played piano for them virtually, I imagined it won’t be too long until these FaceTime visits will be replaced by the real thing. So here’s to the new year - may we all see health and peace. -

Christmas in 2020
In the Christmas of 2020, there was a flu-like virus going around called coronavirus. For many people, it shut down their Christmases and they had to alter their plans, maybe they couldn't see a loved one or couldn't see their close friends. The McEnroes (my family and I) didn't let this virus stop them from celebrating the birth of Christ with loved ones. We sat down on the cold tile on Christmas Eve and listened as my older sister Kylie at the age of 20 was reading the famous poem, "The Night Before Christmas". When the morning finally came on Christmas day there was the same anticipation and magic in the air as there always was on December 25. We could see my grandma and parents shuffle their feet as we waited not-so-patiently at the top of the stairs. "Come on down!' said Mother, we got up and stampeded down the hard stairs with smiles bigger than our pile of presents. -

Christmas and Covid
December 23rd, all of my family is finally here and we are preparing everything. My grandparents are finally here and I am so excited to celebrate with all my family. December 24th, we have just finished wrapping gifts and oh my gosh it took so long. I also had to help my aunt out so I didn't finish until about 6pm. I have just gotten dressed in my black poka-dot dress with a short skirt and a puffy plaid jacket, with white fluff. We had the best dinner a beef stew, with potatoes, carrots, celery, chicken broth, beef, and some other stuff. We finished off the stew and had a desert of chocolate chip cookies. At midnight (can't believe we made it) we opened all the presents. I got a Looney Tunes sweatshirt, fluffy caramel colored shorts, canvases, paint, more clothes, and a French easel. In the morning I went to my grandparents house and enjoyed an early dinner. We then proceeded to open presents, and had a wonderful time. All in all Christmas wasn't as different as I thought it would be. All my family was there, we ate a lovely dinner, and had so many presents. -

Covid Christmas
Usually, my family gathers and we have a big celebration at my aunt's house. In 2020, we had an awkward Zoom call! It was definitely not Christmas without my family, but I am still so grateful for my parents who I got to spend the holiday with. We opened gifts and cooked lots of yummy food together. Cooking is a big deal in my family. It's something I've grown up doing and have grown to love, so it was nice to be able to share that with my parents this Christmas. I'm hopeful that I can celebrate Christmas 2021 with my entire family! -
Covid-19
Covid-19 didn’t really affect me for Christmas. During Christmas, I dont usually have family over or do any traditions. Sometimes my grandma comes over and celebrate Christmas with us but this year she was guaranteed not to come over. It felt weird that nobody was going to come over for sure because sometimes my mom and dad dont tell me that my grandma is coming over and it would be a surprise, but this year i knew for sure. -

Campaigning during Covid
This is a video from Nov. 7., the day Biden was announced as President-elect. I was walking through Boystown in Chicago with my roommate to pick up dinner for the evening and lots of people were out celebrating. Celebrating in a COVID-friendly way...it may be hard to tell in the video but everyone was spaced out respectfully with masks! An unusual time but an important one to remember. -

Jewish Melbourne: Chabad on Carlisle Erev Sukkos Appeal
Chabad on Carlisle - Jewish Russian Centre organised a fundraiser for Sukkos: "In a talk which he delivered on Erev Sukkos, the Rebbe described Yud Daled Tishrei as a day when Jews should literally splurge in giving tzedoka. This year, the call for generosity is so much greater due to the impact of Covid, and the funds you donate will be distributed to alleviate financial hardship and enable the celebration of Succos with true joy and peace of mind." -

Finally something to celebrate
The Los Angeles Lakers had not been to a final in ten years. Our city was full of hope and excitement when this years team was assembled (along with a new head coach). Then 2020 started and our world seemed to fall apart. For the team and our city specifically the loss of Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gigi and all those on that plane, that foggy morning in February was almost too much to bare. The truth is that this year has seen the loss of so many positive people in our society, that partnered with the global pandemic and the terrible leadership in the White House has dubbed this year the unofficial official worse year ever. Of course I think the title is a bit dramatic and things can always be worse but I think we can all agree that this year has been pretty terrible, politically, socially, economically and morally. The lakers won last night, I was watching with my city and for the first time in a long time felt the need to celebrate. It’s the end of the year, and I can’t help but hope that this cause for celebration will be a turning point. -

Promotion during COVID-19
Usually military promotions require a ceremony. I would have dressed myself and our two daughter up, my husbands whole battalion would have be present as his superiors would have said a few words. I would have taken off his old rank from his uniform and officially pinned his new one on. Everyone would have cheered and we would have gone to dinner to celebrate. My husbands promotion looked completely different than what we’re used to. He found out he would be pinned ten minutes before the zoom call, the kids were still in their pjs and my husband wasn’t even wearing his pants. Instead we got dressed in a hurry, got on a zoom call with five other people and I pinned him while my dad held the phone. It took less than five minutes start to finish then it was back to whatever we had been doing prior to the call. We ordered in dinner that day just to make it as special as we could. HST580 ASU -

Shower is Still On
This particular screen shot comes from a post made in my facebook event for my bridal shower being held this weekend. A bridesmaid has been consistently updating all of those invited with safety precautions and our plans to continue for over a month now! This is important to me because it highlights how a milestone event has been altered from a simple show up event to a monitored event. -

Easter Egg Hunt Indoors
My kids, being unable to attend the yearly Easter festivities and egg hunt at their church, hunt for eggs hidden as a scavenger hunt throughout their house. Their church's children's minister, wearing gloves and a mask, left a bag of stuffed eggs, toys for Easter baskets, Peeps and other things for families to use on the doorsteps of each of the families that were part of the church to make it easier for families to be able to celebrate the holiday with their kids at home. *Personal video -

Celebrate Holy Week and Easter With Us On-line
As Easter Sunday approaches, President Trump’s prediction about crowds of people returning to mass is proving unrealistic. Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Libertyville, IL is one example of many Catholic Churches offering online mass as a substitute for in-person services. While religious services have been streamed before, and “Church TV” has existed for a long time, never have Church services across the world had to be cancelled to such a large degree and replaced by online streaming.#DePaulHST391 -

Bakersfield churches celebrate Easter in a new way
The premiss of this article is how community members in Bakersfield, California plan on spending Easter holiday with the shutdowns of everything but essential places. Deborah Leary had never missed going to a Good Friday service even when 9/11 took place, has to now watch Good Friday service online due to COVID-19. Many people are relying on live streams for their religious services and believe these times will teach them that they can still get sermons or other religious services by not having to physically attend a place of worship.
