2020 is One for the Books
This collage represents the main events going on in our lives during the Covid-19 pandemic. Like one of my pictures says "2020 A Year Like No Other." I wanted to represent the election of Trump vs. Biden because it will more than likely go down as one of the largest and craziest elections in history. It divided the country like no other and is still an ongoing battle of Republicans vs. Democrats. I wanted to show the black square and the protests for George Floyd along with The Black Lives Matter movement. I added the air pollution of Los Angeles before the pandemic vs during. With everyone staying inside and not driving around, air quality improved tremendously. We gave the Earth a minute to breathe and heal. A quick photo to shoutout the flight attendants who have had to deal with some craziness on board for the last couple years. It has not been easy, and everyone needed a vacation after 2020. The media has been a huge factor and enemy for this pandemic. I wanted to show an illustration towards facts and fake news. A huge debate on that especially with my final photo of the protests on the vaccine mandates. The world is divided more than ever and hopefully one day we can reunite we can reunite and look back on this pandemic and remember to love each other and this planet. There were many lives lost to Covid, to suicide, and addiction. Rest in peace to everyone who didn't make it and my prayers with the families who lost someone. -

Ending High School at the Beginning of a Pandemic
All of the fun memories that are normally reminisced upon later were replaced with stories of disappointment. My last two months of high school were basically stolen from me. COVID-19 stole the fun events that I deserved and worked twelve hard years for. A time that should have been filled with excitement and fun-filled memories with friends turned into memories of disappointment and separation. Everything that I was looking forward to at the end of high school was canceled. There was no in-person school, all sporting events, senior trips, prom, and graduation were canceled. The world turned virtual. I spent my days attending classes through Zoom not being able to truly interact with my classmates. I missed going out to get lunch with my friends and walking down the hallways talking about how much homework we got. I could not leave my house until the day came where we had to wear masks and social distance. My “prom” consisted of taking pictures with my friend and eating dinner at home rather than dancing the night away. My final goodbye to my teachers consisted of a drive-by car parade where we decorated our cars and were cheered on from afar. My graduation turned into a silent, empty auditorium allowing one parent or guardian to record me walking across the stage and receiving my diploma. I was extremely jealous that my Class of 2019 friends, just the year before, got the opportunity to experience all of the things that I didn’t. As a junior, I assisted the senior dessert and I remember how excited I was to be able to participate in it for my senior year. The disillusionment hit me when my senior dessert was driving to Crumbl Cookies, grabbing my cookie, and going home. All of these activities should have happened in-person surrounded by the smiling faces I’ve spent four years seeing, but instead I got a pandemic. -

New Hobby Discovered
My name is Annie Nguyen and during quarantine, I have discovered my love for painting. I soon developed a talent for painting over the months and I curated this skill using the hours freed up by the pandemic. Locked indoors, I had nothing but free time. With free time to spend, I devoted all that time to painting characters from anime series and beloved movies. At first, I would display these painting on my bed mantle. However, I would soon run out of room as I painted more! Then I thought of the genius idea to assemble them as a collage on the side of my dresser. Now as I look at these painting, I am reminded of the positive of this pandemic. -

Staying At Home
Many people had a lot of time to themselves while sheltering in place since March in the United States. Many people spent their time cooking, cleaning, or participating in art projects. I chose to express myself with a bunch of picture collages which I hung up in my room. I was cutting pictures out of a book I had and I came across a picture of a pandemic from 1918 so I hung it up in one of my collages and decided to include the caption. -

my room: 13 square meter
When you continue to do something everyday, it would change you. This is the idea that I bring to my work. My understanding of repetition and the things I thought are the same have changed as my observation changed during the time fo pandemic. Everyday is different, and life is about observing the changes of the dullness in our mind. Repetitions can be very beautiful as long as your heart is saying it's beautiful. -

COVID-19: end date unknown A Chronicle in collages
I have created collages for several years now, but living in lockdown as of March 17, 2020 gave this creative outlet a whole new importance in my life. It started as a bit of lark, when a new colleague and I shared with each other that we both had creative outlets. I shared my first COVID-19 collage with her, she shared the painting she had made, and that simple act gave me the impetus to continue using this creative outlet as a way of thinking about my experience of life in lockdown. I learned of your digital archive via an interview on CBC radio’s The Current, and I wrote about it (and similar “witnessing” projects) on my blog (link to blog is live in the attached pdf). I have ten pieces in this “end-date unknown” series; I produced none in May due to a family health crisis, since happily resolved. I returned to it in June, producing what is at the moment the last, though likely not the final, entry. Living in lockdown, with hope, Amanda Le Rougetel Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada June 23, 2020 -

Covid-19 in the Coachella Valley
Here in this picture we can see away to prevent getting near the bus driver by adding caution tape in the middle. Also it was Free for everyone and you could not enter unless you have a mask on. The bus was my daily ride to everywhere I went because I did not have a car. When the Covid-19 started i was afraid they were gonna close down the bus, but they did not. They tried their best for them to be on service because many of the citizens need the bus as a way to travel to work. Not only that, but during that time of the picture everything changed for me. First, all of my classes turned online which was kind of good, but at the same time I missed going to class every Monday to wednesday. Also i lost my job as many people did, but in my citation is that the job was at the street fair and they told me they might even open until next year. All of this has taught me a lesson which is to always be prepared for these situations because one day I can be working, but then out of nowhere I don't have it anymore. Gladly i saved money to pay what i need to pay. Also I've been going hiking and trying to do more exercise at my house. At the end of the day we all need to be patient because great things can happen to us. *This is a picture of how they use caution tape on the bus to prevent anyone to get near the bus driver. -

Interpreting a Pandemic
I chose to focus on creating a collage that incorporates bits and pieces of different notable events that have taken place during this pandemic. This multi-media collage utilizes paper, gloves, masks, and cellophane in order to depict how this pandemic has changed our lives - from overpriced purell to lines at grocery stores and zoom meetings. I tried to incorporate many different pieces of history that anyone that lived through this era could relate to and I hope that came across! -
