COVID Share Your Story #RITtigers #4, Mechanical Engineer Major's Point of view
Due to COVID-19 it has been a crazy few weeks. I was in Florida on the women's crew training trip. When we first got the news the year would not be continuing as planned. At first I was heart broken I had made some of the most amazing friends and the thought of being away from them for longer than just the summer was heart breaking. I was scared that we would loose contact. However the exact opposite has happened, we now video chat on the weekly and call each other we need help or just a pick me up. Al though it is not the same as eating dinner every night together or spending each weekend hanging out we have still found ways to connect. If I could give a message to myself at the start of this semester, what would I say? I would tell myself to pack lighter. I didn't use a lot of stuff I packed and it was a pain when trying to move back home. -

Life in a Pandemic
My laptop represents life during a pandemic because it shows how technology was used to overcome the challenges of being isolated and away from school, work, those that we love, etc. The laptop helped me personally because I was able to stay in touch with friends, become an ambassador for a company close to my heart, learn new skills, and get a marketing job. -

Plague Journal, Day 44: Shouldering CoronaStress
I'm keeping a Covid-19 journal. Here's the latest entry, in which The Girlfriend, my sisters, brother, and mother discuss the challenges and exhaustion of doing normal things -- moving supplies from an art studio, shopping at Target, leaving a parking garage -- in an abnormal time. -

Holy Nights
Since May one of my biggest outlets from the stress of the pandemic has been watching MIYAVI perform live from Tokyo, Japan. I stumbled across his music on YouTube in 2008 and he's been one of my favorite artists since. After my dad passed in 2016 I made a promise to not let life slip by and last year I kept up with that promise by going to see some of my favorite musicians live, including MIYAVI. I was hoping to see him in concert again this year since he tends to tour worldwide often but when the pandemic hit I knew that wasn't going to happen. Instead, he has been holding virtual concerts from his home in Tokyo or an empty studio with drummer, Bobo, a GoPro, and a couple of drones. Even though for me seeing his performances means waking up at 7 am, it's so worth it. A lot has changed because of the pandemic but with technology, we can still connect and have fun with people from all over the world. Something MIYAVI mentions often during his virtual performances is that music won't stop, musicians won't stop playing, and that we are connected through music. I think it's very important to remember that more than what divides us, connects us and music is a large part of that. For an hour people from Japan, China, Europe, Africa, South America, and North America join into one virtual space because of music and because MIYAVI continues to remind us we are connected. -

“Personally, it has not affected my faith or my belief."
“Personally, it has not affected my faith or my belief. I've always had a very strong faith and I've always had strong faith because I'm a person who has pretty much knocked at death’s door more than once. I've been on life support so I look at covid-19 as another stumbling block and with my faith it's just something that I can crawl over like before.” -

“I dunno. It's certainly helped me turn to reassuring scriptures..."
“I dunno. It's certainly helped me turn to reassuring scriptures to go back into how you connect with God and how God is with us all the time. So you're relying more on that providence of God that presence of God knowing that things are out of our control yet God is still there God is still in charge so I dunno know that's kind of what it's done for me.” -

Mama, cómo se apaga la videollamada?
Small child walks in asking mom how to turn off the video call. This meme captures the idea that sometimes as a parent we let our kid have a bit more access to devices than usual, letting them make video calls to friends and family. This lets them maintain their connections to the outside world, but it also means they're not totally able to handle all the technology. -

Navigating COVID-19 and Chest-Binding
8 tips to look after your respiratory health for trans and non binary people who bind their chest .I am a member of a secret online group for transgender men. A member of the group from the US shared this resource, on how to look after your respiratory health for trans and non binary people who bind their chest. I realised that it was written by a member of the Australian trans community, someone I have connections with in my own city. It felt good to know that resources developed by someone in my own backyard are having a global reach and that the transgender community around the world are pulling together to support one another at this time.
