Mask Pollution
This is an Instagram post by discarded_face_masks_uk. This is an account that shows people that have left their face masks on the ground, thus making it worse for the environment. Hashtags like #coveryourface do imply that they still want you to wear a mask, but are against people accidentally leaving them on the ground. This helps speak of a larger issue where with mask mandates in places in some areas, it leaves more opportunity for people to litter with their face masks, as people will take them off at times when doing certain tasks or if they think they don't need one in some specific area. -

Discarded Mask
I was walking through Highland Park when I noticed a mask on the ground. It seemed oddly poetic in this social climate; A dirty, discarded mask in a beautiful park. -

The Discarded Mask: Two Perspectives
Found on the sidewalk along west Wichita, Kansas's 13th Street, this discarded mask reflects two dueling realities that have come to define the larger COVID-19 experience. First, such a sight is now rather commonplace across many communities, thereby revealing that masks have become such an important mitigation measure and common clothing accessory in both the US and the world that they are found in use and disuse as easily as a soda can or food wrapper. It is also emblematic of the contrary attitudes still held by many people, especially in more conservative regions of the United States, with a still significant portion of the population who, in the face of surging cases and fatalities, continue to challenge the need for masks and distancing by carrying on as if COVID-19 were a relic of the past. -

What do we chose to ignore?
The image shows latex gloves discarded on the ground right outside of a neighborhood church during the COVID-19 pandemic. Seeing this stopped me in my tracks and broke my heart. It shows how careless and selfish people can be, even during an international crisis. #REL101
