Oral History: Clare Acosta
Through this oral history, Clare Acosta and I develop a conversation about both the Community Engagement office work and the program of Empower: Ecuador. The conversation was specifically focused on the before and after of COVID-19 and also what was learned from the process. It is a very deep conversation that I really enjoyed and know that Clare also did. -

Wedding? Forget about it.
Getting engaged in November 2019 was one of the greatest moments of my life. Planning the wedding for 2020 was confusing, exciting, and often involved me agreeing with her. Me being in the US and her the UK this was no problem. That is, until March 2020. The concept of having a two week quarantine for all visiting members to the UK, makes wedding planning impossible. Instead of guest coming for a weekend or maybe a week, you have to plan at least 15 days. 14 in quarantine and 1 for the wedding. Knowing how work schedules and American vacation time works, this is clearly impossible. So here we are wondering in this world of Covid, will we ever be able to have a wedding? or should we just ditch the ceremony and just get married! -

Access Inc - Celebrating Ability In Our Community during Crisis (Jewish Melbourne)
Access Online refers to the suite of virtual programs created specially by Access in response to the 2020 Coronavirus (Covid-19) Pandemic. These virtual programs are different to Access’ regular physical programming, however, they retain a link to our regular learning streams and are intended to provide participants with low intensity skill development, social connection and purposeful engagement. The programs have also been carefully put together to ensure they remain committed to Access’ values and mission and suit these different times. -

Self Guided Activities
Self-guided activities that are part of the Play Date event series for children and families hosted by the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston. As museums had to transition to virtual engagement and shut down their physical sites, they had to find new ways to interact with their audience. This was especially true for events tailored for younger audiences, who might not find the same enjoyment from a virtual museum as opposed to the physical space. -

Couple Gets Engaged During North Carolina Protest
The country had many protests in June. Some were violent, but most were peaceful. There has never been such a large civil rights movement in our history. One particularly touching story is the story of a man who admired his girlfriend's commitment and action so much, he knew that he wanted to marry her. I guess he was considering marriage because he happened to have a ring in his pocket. So he got down on one knee and asked the big question. She said yes behind her face mask. She is pregnant and they call their child "Baby Batman" and plan to marry in September 2021. -

Grandaughter shows grandfather her engagement ring through a window.
Cara Boyd showed up at her grandfathers nursing home in Lake Waccamaw, North Carolina to show him her engagement ring. However, they could not meet without a pane of glass between them. She did not want to wait for the crisis to be over before showing him.
