The Person I Can No Longer Be
This pandemic has been a disaster for parents. We have two adults working from home, two remote learners, and a 3-year-old. Cut off from our usual support systems, many days we feel like we are hanging on by a thread. I write a lot and have been chronicling our day-to-day activities (or lack thereof) throughout the pandemic. -

California's Failures at Testing
California, as one of the biggest states in the country, was always going to have a challenge in managing the coronavirus. After the initial horror stories that came out of New York sounded like they were from an apocalypse novel, I was hopeful that California would rise to the challenge and try to mitigate the issues. As one of the earliest states to impose quarantine orders, things seemed to be going well. Turns out, that necessarily wasn't the case when it came to testing. This item was added TAGS v6.1.9.1. Planning is everything
Although at one time we had the mechanisms in place to deal with a pandemic, those resources were disbanded for short sighted financial and political reasons. So, we were woefully unprepared for this pandemic. Lack of leadership worsened the situation and even exasperated the problem with negligence and outright misinformation. The long term consequences will be catastrophic. Personally I am frustrated every day as the death toll rises and the whole planet suffers. This would have been a bad thing at best, and is being made much worse by the lack of credible leadership. -

“As Trump administration officials continued to rely on the flawed CDC test, many lab scientists eager to aid the faltering effort grew increasingly alarmed and exasperated by the federal government’s actions, according to previously unreported email messages and other documents reviewed by The Washington Post, as well as exclusive interviews with scientists and officials involved.“ -
