Food?
Everyone was starving at about 10 pm. There weren't any shops at the airport, and all we could get was water. Dinner came to me in a cheap plastic bag. There's this pot of instant noodles, two bottles of water, and a packet of sliced bread. -

The Only Thing That's Increasing ....... Food Bill and Belly Fat
I think this picture really resonates with everyone in the pandemic. I do nothing but stay home every day and eat my food. So the only thing that increases is food spending and belly fat. Isn't everyone like that? -

Providing food to the quarantined.
My husband is "presumed positive" for the coronavirus and is quarantined on our porch. (Presumed positive is the physician's term after a telemedicine appointment. There are no tests available, unless one is medical personnel or in dire health.) This image shows how we place food outside his door and then he picks it up. -

Free Beans
I didn't think to take a picture at the time, but while out for a walk I saw a paper shopping bag at the end of a driveway. It had "free beans" written in black marker on the side, and lo and behold the grocery bag was full of lots of bags of beans! It's a great thing to do, and I didn't need anything so I walked on without thinking too much about what it all meant. I'm in San Jose, CA which is in one of the first counties to order a Shelter in Place. Everyday it feels like reported cases are skyrocketing, and then they go up further. I was walking around a poorer neighborhood. Stores are so close to empty of food (and puzzles) and many people don't have cars to load up and panic buy for long stretches. Of course, I can't know what the exact experience of the gift giver was. But I know that they put the community above their own needs, and they didn't even need to be thanked for it. Could have kept the beans for themselves, for sure. They trusted that those who would take the beans would need the food more than they did, and that the rest of us wouldn't be greedy. After all, it's hard to be greedy when you are surrounded by such selfless people. -

The Privilege of Food and Resource Availability
In this pandemic many families have to stock up on groceries, cleaning supplies, etc. to feed and keep their family safe and nurtured throughout the quarantine. But not a lot of people are able to afford their kids coming home from college, stocking up for a week in advance, or replacing the school provided breakfasts and lunches. My mom and dad aren't rich, but they work very hard to provide for me, their parents, my four other siblings, and others in need. This picture shows much of America's privilege and makes you think of Americans inability to provide for their family, especially when people may be getting laid off right now. I hope everyone is able to get all the things they need to survive during this pandemic. -

Grocery List
A shopping list... trying to minimize trips to the store, think about what staples we have in the house and how to stretch them. A dramatic change from my usual system of planning what we want to eat and shopping for those ingredients. -
