COVID-19 Testing
This is an Instagram post by medrite_springfieldnj. This is a PSA welcoming people to get free COVID testing. It says that no appointments necessary and walk-ins are welcome. Since the start of the pandemic, rapid testing and PCR tests have become more available and free of charge in many places. The reason many of these are free is due to state and federal governments subsidizing the costs of the tests, in addition to people volunteering to help them get done. -

Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Grounds
Despite most activities being cancelled due to restrictions, I was lucky enough to score four free tickets to the Boxing Day Test cricket match in Melbourne at the MCG, and I brought three of my friends to the match. It was actually my first time at a live sporting event, so it was particularly memorable for me. Rather scarily, we soon found out a few days later that one of the spectators on that day would later test positive for COVID-19, leading me to take a COVID test myself, which thankfully turned out to be negative. -

COVID-19 Vaccination Is Free For All Indonesians
Straight from the Indonesian COVID-19 website, it was published on December 19, 2020 that citizens would be given the vaccination for free and without any conditions. This goes for people who do and do not have health insurance. Since the vaccines hadn’t arrived yet at the date of publication, they also emphasized and encouraged that everyone should continue taking precautions (i.e. wearing masks, washing hands with soap). In addition to this publication, Indonesian news source Kompas reported similarly the day prior. President Joko Widodo (through a representative) confirmed that the vaccine would be free for all Indonesian citizens. The Jakarta Post had also confirmed this information. These articles were personally translated. -

Buy a Corona, Get a Free Toilet Paper Roll
The photos show the antinomy of what the media said people should do (not go out, quarantine) vs what people actually did (go out, pictures were taken at a bar). It highlights the irresponsibility but also the humor found in the middle of uncertainty. This was taken in a bar that had a very special, special- Buy a Corona, get a free toilet paper roll. At this time toilet paper was hard to find in stores, and in this point in time, I needed it. People also were not buying Corona beer because they believed it was related to the COVID pandemic. Please note that after this night, I did quarantine and realized how serious the situation was. I do not reccomed going out during a pandemic. -

Food for First Responders- McDonalds
I had go to McDonalds to pick up breakfast when I noticed they had this sign in the drive thru. My Aunt is a nurse working in the Covid-19 unit at a local hospital. I took the picture of the sign to send to her. She was excited to see that they had such an offer. She was also suprised because she did not know that was something McDonalds was doing. She shared the information with her coworkers, whom most did also not know about that. I think it is important to share these kinds of offers for first responder. It's great that McDonalds is giving out free complete meals to the first responders, but it should be something that is more well known about. I am not sure if this is a local offer or a national one, but regardless The people who the offer is being made for should be made aware. I hope to see as time progresses more bigger chains that can afford programs like that to join and help us support all of the hard working first responders. -

Oliver Kaplan Oral History, 2020/04/29
Oliver Kaplan begins this recording by stating how the monologue is for a college assignment in their “China in the world” class. They then speak about how they were aware of the virus well before its spread across the world, due to the class they were taking. Initially Oliver thought the virus would be contained in China, but realized that it was going to become a larger issue when he noticed anti-Chinese sentiments at his college in Maine. Oliver then describes how shortly after that his school shut down and he returned to his home in California. Oliver concludes this recording by talking about local political policies in Los Angeles and hopes the lockdown will end soon. -

Reminder: Grab & Go Meals Location & Hour Changes
Thank you for your unwavering support of our FREE Grab-and-Go Meals Program during school closures. So far, we have served more than 50,000 student meals across all locations to children 18 and under in our communities. We thank all our amazing nutrition services employees and volunteers for feeding those children/teens in our community! Due to health and safety guidelines recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Tempe Elementary School District leadership, we would like to share this important update regarding changes in the distribution of meals and changes in time to our grab-and-go schedule. Beginning Monday, April 6, we will no longer be serving meals at Thew and Wood. Our five remaining feeding locations will still be serving meals between the hours of 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. only. You will be able to pick up both breakfast and lunch during this time. -

Free lunch for students while schools remain closed
Free lunch contains a turkey sandwich with cheese on a white bread roll, cucumbers, red grapes, fat free milk, carrots, ranch dressing, mayo, and simply Chex strawberry yogurt. The food isn't the most nutritious, but it helps out students who may face food scarcity, and it returns some normalcy for youth accustomed to eating these meals every week day. -
