Birthday Presents from my Best Friend
This picture shows the presents I received from my best friend Alex back in October of 2021. Normally, I would have two parties for my birthday; one with family and one with friends. Alex would normally be part of the friend party or possibly a separate party of our own. However, due to COVID, that was not meant to be. Alex wanted to keep healthy in order to keep seeing her nephew, so it was for the best to not hold the party this year. Instead, we decided to meet up on my birthday for about a half-hour to hand out my presents. She gifted me with four figures of Princess Aurora from Disney's Sleeping Beauty. Aurora is my favorite Princess and I was so happy to add these figures to my collection! I am glad that we were able to talk for at least a short time before she had to go home. I hope that in 2022, we can actually hold an in-person birthday party for my birthday and her's as well. -

PTA during Covid-19
I have been volunteering in the PTA for the last 13 years. Two of these years occurred when I was the PTA president at my daughter's middle school during the Covid-19 pandemic. Once the pandemic started and Utah moved all schools to online in March 2020, PTA had to adjust. We cancelled all of our meetings and delivered the end-of-year teacher gifts to the teachers’ and staff’s homes. The next school year (2020-2021), the students returned to school but had to wear masks and large group activities were cancelled. PTA held our monthly meetings outside or via Zoom (once it became too cold to hold them outside) and we cancelled our assemblies. The school district required PTA to individually wrap treats/food that we provided for the teachers. Rather than the potluck-style lunches that we had always provided, we needed to cater the lunches which tripled our costs. We went from a budget of $700 for teacher lunches/treats/gifts to $2200. We made significant cuts in other areas in order to make this adjustment. The pictures above show treats for the teachers from 2021 that are individually wrapped and a partial list of teacher addresses and driving times when the PTA delivered presents to the homes of teachers and staff in 2020 because they were working from home. It took about eight volunteers, each with a 1 1/2 to 2 hour route, to get everything delivered. -

Little Gifts
My dad is a paramedic currently working three jobs within the EMS field. He's basically only home one day out of the week. I take care of the house and my little sister while he's gone but I know the job is hard right now, especially with Covid-19. When I can, I buy him little gifts I think he would appreciate, like this Hawkeye Funko Pop. I honestly just wish they would pay paramedics and other EMS related first responders more than what they get now, especially since this pandemic has shown how necessary and essential their job is. -

Christmas Without the Joy of Shopping
My story deals with how I had to change my gift giving approach for my son in the 2020 holiday season. I chose not to shop in stores for his gifts, to reduce my exposure to the virus and avoid passing on a virus from myself to others. Instead, I gave him gift certificates. This change reduced the holiday joy for me, as I greatly enjoy shopping for just the right gifts for him by directly engaging in the shopping experience in a physical location, and he appreciates the effort and the unique gifts I always found for him. This is a response to the #pandemicprompt on the holidays for Arizona State University, HST 580. -

A Pandemic Christmas
Christmas was different for me this year. I grew up with a big catholic family so we have many traditions around the holidays. Christmas eve we all dress up, have a nice dinner, and go to mass. Then on christmas day we dress more casual, open gifts, and have a buffet style dinner. With COVID being a factor, I didn't get to see much of my family for the holidays. I spent the actual day with just my siblings and dad. Christmas Eve I didn’t get to see anyone or do anything, I just stayed home and took pictures with my dog in our matching Christmas pajamas (target has everything). I had to trade gifts with all my cousins and other relatives individually in an outdoor setting. Some of the gifts I dropped off and rang the doorbell. Other family members I would meet with in their front yard from a distance. This year was a bit lonely and we all agreed that when COVID is over (hopefully by next year) we will have a huge celebration. -

Covid Christmas
This Christmas was very different for me due to the pandemic, it started out normal, I was with my friends and family exchanging gifts and having a good time, but the next day, I had learned that people at my house were exposed to someone with Covid-19, this led to us quarantining and being scared that we caught it, but everyone was negative for the virus in the end thankfully. It doesn't stop there though, my trip to Mammoth Mountain got cancelled so instead I took my Can-Am out to the desert, the reason this is so strange is because it has been a yearly tradition of my family's to go to Mammoth for Christmas for over 10 years, and this was shocking to me. Now that it's the new year, things are already going downhill, I've had to postpone my birthday because there are no places to go, this is a summary of all the things different about my Christmas, I'm just thankful my families okay. -

My Christmas traditions before and during Covid
Before Covid, this is how I spent my holiday. On Christmas Eve, my cousins, my aunts, and my uncles come to my house to celebrate. In the late morning, we have brunch and in the evening, we would play board games and card games while waiting for our dinner to cook. When the food is ready, we eat and do a White Elephant gift exchange with everyone. On Christmas morning, we open our presents and we eat breakfast. After we go to my best friend's house and exchange presents and have lunch, once we leave my friend’s house, we go home and mess around with our gifts until dinner, and then we would eat and be done. Since Covid, we didn’t have anyone come over on Christmas Eve and did not do a white elephant gift exchange. We tried to keep some of the tradition by playing cards and other games with my mom and sister. Instead of doing a gift exchange on Christmas with my best friend, we dropped off their Christmas gifts a couple of days early. The one thing that stayed the same was that I spent the holidays with my mom, sister, and grandpa. -

A Christmas durning COVID 19
Unlike other Christmases, this year was different. I'm Avi Sobel, and I am an 8th-grade student sharing my Christmas expire during the COVID 19 pandemic. What greatly made this different was the amount of family and friends. For example, it was only the people I lived with. But, even though it was different it didn't lack meaning. We still celebrated our father Jesus birth and gave thanks for one another. We also did a tradition of giving presents. by, Avi sobel -

Dewey Christmas 2020
For christmas my sisters and I normally sleep downstairs by the tree then we wake up. After a while we wake up our parents and they get their coffee. We open our stockings first then we open our presents. At around lunch time we get dressed in nice clothes and go to my aunt's and uncle's house. This year was way different. On christmas my sisters and I woke up by the tree and then we woke up my parents after. We opened our stocking mine had pistachios, trail mix, chocolate, earbuds, earrings, an amazon gift card, and cashews. Then we all opened our cards from my grandma. Then we opened our presents. I am not a huge present person but I am so grateful for what I got. I got a comfy Nutella sweatshirt and 2 super cool cookbooks. Then we watched A Christmas Story and Elf. The whole day we read our books that we got and we watched Hallmark movies. For dinner we had tamales and apple cider. -

Covid Christmas
This year was way different than normal. I normally love Christmas/winter and I tried to enjoy it but it was very difficult. After Christmas day my Aunt, Uncle and grandparents (on my mom's side) would come stay at our house or we would go to my grandparents. This year we did not see then. On Christmas Eve my Aunt, Uncle and two younger cousins (on my dads side) would come over all evening/night. They decided not to come over this year so we briefly exchanged gifts and talked. 8:00am on Christmas morning my mom woke me up. My parents and grandparents (on my dads side live with us) where already up. My older brother woke up shortly after. We opened our stockings at the fire place then went to the living room with the Christmas tree. We opened the other present there and talked for a few after. We all went to our rooms to use the new stuff we got. I was kind of sad that Christmas was over because it barley felt like Christmas. Later that night we had Christmas dinner. As much as I tried to enjoy Christmas and the long break from school the vibe wasn't the same and was slighting disappointing. -

My Christmas During Covid
This year's Christmas was a bit different, but it was pretty much the same as normal. We never travel over Christmas break so staying home wasn't too unusual. My uncle and grandfather ended up coming over for dinner because we see them pretty often, but we still stayed socially distanced. We were extremely blessed this Christmas with an amazing meal and lots of presents to open, but it was really nice to just sit down and catch up with everyone. I realized that even though we were all in the same place at the same time we hardly knew what was going on in each other's lives, in detail I mean. It was also probably the longest I had gone without looking at my phone or computer in the last year or so. Despite not being able to see all of my friends like I normally would, I think this has been one of the best Christmas' ever. -

Christmas in 2020
I experienced a very different Christmas than I would usually know. First, my brother and his girlfriend came over in the morning and we all opened presents, but we were social-distanced and wearing masks. After that, we went to my grandmother's house and we had breakfast. We had pancakes, sausages, bacon, and orange juice. After that, we went to my other grandmother's house and we opened all of our gits from them and we stayed there a while, but we were social-distanced, and wearing masks. Then we went back to my grandmother's house and we opened the rest of my presents. It was a very different experience and I will never forget it. -

Covid Christmas
I got out of school for Christmas break. Once I was out of school, I felt like it just was a normal weekend due to being online. Usually, I celebrate with my friends at school but we couldn't do that. I just tried to excite myself for Christmas but I just felt empty because I knew I couldn't see my whole family. Its Christmas. Usually, on Christmas Eve I get home from being with my uncle and grandparents. But we did not go to that so I was really down. I walked downstairs to the presents. I waited for my sister to get up. She got up we were ready to open gifts. My grandma was not scared of covid and still came even we told her not to. We were still happy to see her. It was fun opening gifts. But after I had fun, I realized we weren't going to be able to see my other grandparents after opening gifts. Usually, we go to our other family but not this time. I was sad because usually after opening gifts I am excited to go. I spent time with my one grandparent and also had fun with my parents and sister. But even though we had a fun time, it wasn't the same. -

Christmas 2020
My 2020 Christian was just a little different from last year. One main thing that change would be me getting to go to my grandparents and uncles house. For Christmas Day I would usually open my presents at home which my Mom, Dad, and sister got me then go to my Uncles but I wasn't able to because of Covid. Instead My family had called them and had to wish them a merry Christmas. We also weren't able to have friends over or go to friends houses. But everything else was the same. -

Covid Christmas
Every year at Christmas time, my family spends a LOT of time together and we have parties and spend time with friends. This year was a lot different though, parties were cancelled, masks were worn, things were shut down. Two parties were planned with groups of my friends, both were sadly cancelled and replaced to be on zoom. The first party hosted by Tanner was set up to be on zoom on Friday December 18, 2020. We opened gifts dropped off by Secret Santa and watched our favorite Christmas movie, Elf. The second party hosted by Sophia with all girls was on Monday December 21, 2020. We opened gifts and played around with different zoom backgrounds. When Christmas Eve rolled around, my family went to church like we always do, but this time we had to wear masks the entire time with rows in between each family. On Christmas day we did the same as always, open presents then have brunch with my family. It was different but a very fun time. -

COVID-19 Christmas
This year, Christmas was normal for the most part. I had my one side of my family's grandparents and cousins over but I was not able to see the other side of my family. We didn't go shopping or to amusement parks like usual but we still had fun. I played golf and watched my cousins play tennis. I got shoes for Christmas and a guitar. I am super grateful that we stayed healthy. -

Covid Christmas
I am going to share how my Christmas was affected by the virus. Personally for me, my Christmas was very normal. My family doesn't normally have other family over because they live so far away so we could easily celebrate like we do every year. I have not really been affected by the virus overall and my Christmas was complete and enjoyable. The only thing that was different about my Christmas was that my gifts came at different times. I'm not sure if that's because of the virus, but if so that's how it affected my holidays. And just to throw it in, for New Years we never normally go to or throw parties so it was normal for. -

Christmas During the Pandemic
This year's Christmas was different. For example, we didn't visit with my Grandpa as much as we normally do, though we did stop by and say hello. Also, My Grandma didn't come by our house on Christmas and do the gift exchange with us. This year, it was just me, my brother, and our parents at home together. -

A Collection of Quarantine Paintings
I am posting this photo because it showcases how I have spent a lot of my time during the pandemic. This photo displays every painting I have created since the beginning of quarantine. Some of the works shown in the picture are still works in progress and others are completed. Before Covid prevailed and we were sent home in the spring, I had lost interest in painting and had not painted in months. The lockdown that Covid brought on allowed me to slow down and rekindle the love and creativity I had for painting. In this photo, there are 14 paintings, however, I have made more and gave them to friends as gifts. I mainly work with acrylic paint on canvas because I like vibrant color and solid lines, although, I would like to start experimenting with oil paints soon. Covid-19 brought on many obstacles to a lot of people but I am grateful that I was allowed to reconnect with painting -

Graduating during a pandemic - Krystal Rodrigues (Suffolk University)
Like most kids, I had dreamed of the day I would walk across the stage to receive my diploma, but due to COVID-19, the Class of 2020 missed out on that moment. I graduated from high school this year and I experienced my final year with a global pandemic. The uncertainty of this pandemic led to the cancelation of our graduation. My peers and I had to say our goodbyes online and our school made a video for our graduation where they called out all our names. However, we would’ve felt happier to have experienced a normal senior year. -

Soap
These soaps will serve as favors for my upcoming bridal shower. I wanted to give something that was useful, rather than something that would be thrown away as soon as they left. What could be more needed currently during a pandemic than soap? This birthed the idea to make individual soaps to give to all the attendees to take home and use after being out with people all day. -

My Family's Masks
Here are all the masks my family of four has. In the little jar to the left there are about four or five masks. We got almost all of them for free, except for four that I got from my friend who is using his dad's factory to make them. The company is called Jeffery Press. My friends' masks are called Face Armour. To be honest the price is a little high but that's just business. The painting masks on the left are from probably ten or eleven years ago when my dad redid the upstairs. The rest of the masks were gifts from my mom's cousin's wife who is a fashion designer for kids. The surgical mask was a graduation gift from my great aunt and uncle. -

Pizza and Toliet Paper
A local pizza place called Rosatis Pizza has begun to give out a free roll of toliet paper for every order. When my family ordered dinner from there we had no idea they were doing this. It is weird to think about how just a few months ago if a pizza place gave out a roll of toliet paper it would have been very strange, but now in the current environment created by the pandemic it is a thoughtful and appreciated gesture. It shows how values have changed during the pandemic and the importance of still trying to support local businesses as best as we can, and in return the businesses are doing what they can to show their appreciate for consumer support during the pandemic. -

"Adopt a Senior" - Casa Grande, AZ
In order to encourage high school senior from my hometown, a page was made in which people could post their child that's a senior and people within the community can "adopt" them and then sponsor them, specifically by sending them baskets or gifts catered to what they like.
