Santa to the rescue
This holiday, we were on an emergency stay at home order. Solano County advised that all gatherings should cease. Meaning that our holiday was unfortunately canceled. My family has been working hard to adhere to the rules and orders, but we are all feeling a little exhausted from it all. I especially wanted to visit my parents in Oregon. Originally, we were thinking of getting tested for Covid right before we headed up to Oregon. But my mom being a medical worker did not feel that she could guarantee our safety. So for a little change in our routines, we made hot cocoa at home and filled up our new mugs. We got warm and cozy (All in our jammies and hats) and piled into the car with blankets. Then we drove to a local neighborhood that is well known for its holiday spirit. The locals call these streets Lollypop Lane, and it adjoins with a road we call Candy Cane Lane. We just cruised in a big loop listening to Christmas music for hours. Whatever, the kids were happy and we felt like we were doing something out of the ordinary for the first time in a long time. At one house, a man dressed as Santa yelled to the children in their cars and told them that he knew they had been good. It was sweet. All and all we went looking for Christmas lights every few days. -

Garage or Roller Disco?
With quarantine entering its eleventh month, and looking for ways to exercise when it ‘s cold or wet outside, we turned to our garage and roller blades. With 70s disco and r&b bumping, it’s not too hard to pretend we’re at the roller disco. Time to get on Amazon and get some colored lights! Anything to keep us active and having fun even as the pandemic outside these walls shows no sign of slowing. -

Reflections, light, and vanity. Each of these things are associated with vision, changing with our perceptions. During COVID-19 I can't help but feel like I'm in a dream, chasing reflections and clarity. -

Bringing Photography Back to My Life
The image is of a white flowering tree in a family member's garden, that has a ray of light in the corner of the photo. This was taken during a social distancing visit with family, and in way made me realize that I would like to bring photography back into the forefront of my professional career and don't want to be stuck in an office all day. -

Green Lights of Kentucky #12
(Pictured: Semi with green cabin lights) On March 21, 2020, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear asked Kentuckians to show green lights each night a COVID-19 fatality is reported — a show of solidarity and resilience that unites the Commonwealth. “Every night that I have to report a fatality, it’s a small thing, but we’re going to light the Kentucky Governor’s Mansion green. Green is the color of compassion, it’s the color of empathy. It’s also a color of renewal. According to my faith, when you pass from this world, your body is just a vessel and your soul moves to an ever better and more special place.” -

A Dark Green Mill In Daylight
The historic Green Mill Cocktail Lounge in Uptown, Chicago, has long been open from 12PM to 4AM 365 days a year: the marquee lights blaze in the daylight and twinkle invitingly once the sun goes down, and you can hear the faint blares of trumpets and saxophones. This bar has long been a haven from modern life for busybodies and music-lovers alike, where they can relax in the relic of the jazz age, myself included. For three years now, I have been going to the Green Mill every Tuesday after my bartending shift. However, Covid-19 has forced the bar to close its doors and to turn off its lights. Uptown feels lost without its guiding beacon, and its presence is one of the few aspects of regular life that I genuinely miss. #DePaulHST391 -

San Francisco Le Meridien Hotel Heart, Battery Street and Clay Street, North facing facade of hotel from my apartment.
The hotel workers, who are out of a job right now, had the thought to express love to people in the area and it really struck me that is exactly what we all needed at that moment: love. It made me sad for everyone, but gave me hope as well. I posted on Facebook and said: This hotel near where I live has been mostly dark the last few weeks, but tonight they made a nice heart. Love to all of you and all of your families and hope all are healthy and safe! -
