Sacrificing grandma for the stock market
The U.S. government was planning on opening the country again and having daily life go back to normal sooner than health experts recommended. People were angry that the government was willing to allow at-risk people (the elderly) to die rather than have the economy crash -

Friends and family erected an altar in her honor outside of The Candlelight Lounge to allow people to pay their respects while maintaining safe social distancing practices. No Work, No Play
The picture reflects an empty construction site due to lockdowns in Tema, Ghana. The entire country has been shut down, except the ports that remain open for essential food and medicines. Soaps and sanitizers are given at every shop for customers to use before they enter, without which there’s a strict no-entry policy being enforced. -

Instagram post - The Networking Dog 23 March 2020
On Sunday 22 March I received the following message from the University's Vice Chancellor, "If you need to come to campus to collect anything essential to continue to teach online or work remotely you must do so before 5pm tomorrow, Monday 23 March." On Monday I posted this image to alert the community of researchers who use our facility that we would be closed until further notice. This poster designed again by Alex Stitt, a brilliant graphic designer, illustrator and social commentator, dates from 1997, and its message is relevant today. This week I have begun to work remotely and attended online training sessions Microsoft Teams 101, and Video Conferencing on Skype and Microsoft Teams. -

RMIT Design Archives Instagram Post 18 March 2020 Cancellation of Melbourne Design Week events
On the week beginning Monday 16 March cultural organisations across Victoria began to make the difficult decision to close their doors to the public as a precautionary measure. In terms of the RDA, our programs for Melbourne Design Week, the Australian Heritage Festival, and Melbourne Rare Books Week were postponed until further notice. One of the themes of Melbourne Design Week was Communication Design and Health Promotion. The 'Life Be In It' poster designed by Alex Stitt seemed pertinent to the unfolding situation where potentially people might not be able to participate in physical activity outside of their homes. My gym closed last week! -

Our family home schooling schedule.
My son's school closed on Monday. He is a high energy kid and copes better when he knows what the day holds. So I devised a schedule for us where he can continue to learn whilst school is closed. We are finding that having a schedule is really helping with our daily life. It is meant to be flexible and serves more of a touchstone for when things get difficult throughout the day. Many people are saying that time in isolation is a great opportunity to learn an instrument or language, master a hobby or really relax - but those of us with children don't have that luxury. -

Alone in a Hotbed
As the days pass time becomes abstract. The air has become heavy, its hard to breathe. The nights turn long and sleepless and the stars feel like they're burning out above me. The whole world feels like it's folding in. For some time I have been longing for cooler days but something stops me everytime, Covid-19. Being stuck in my house, which has become my prison, with nothing but my thoughts has driven me to the edge, the edge of sanity. This must end, it must. -

Darlene Kimball, one of the first US fatalities of Covid-19
From The Washington Post: “Darlene Kimball, 72, was one of those who died of covid-19 after a stay at Life Care Center. The avid gardener, animal lover and grandmother of five had been living with ovarian cancer for four years when she fell in mid-February and went to Life Care Center for rehabilitation, said her daughter, Tami Kahler.” https://www.washingtonpost.com/national/us-coronavirus-death-toll-reaches-100/2020/03/17/f8d770c2-67a8-11ea-b313-df458622c2cc_story.html
