Mask in Germany
I found this mask on the ground outside of a subway in Germany. At the time, masks were still mandatory on transportation, which was surprising since most of the world didn’t make masks mandatory. They even had someone walking around to either give people masks or to remind them of the mask mandate. -

Puerto Rico Requires Negative Covid Test
Beginning July 15, 2020, the governor of Puerto Rico ordered all tourists to show a negative, molecular Covid test in order to enter the island. The governor had tried to close down all US mainland flights from coronavirus hotspots but the FAA did not respond to her request. Instead, the governor required tourists to show proof of a negative Covid test, using this QR code (above), in order to leave the airport. Throughout one's stay in Puerto Rico, the government texted/emailed everyday asking for any symptoms. For the first several months, the questions were only in Spanish (above). -

Protests in France against COVID-19 'health pass' rules
Police in Paris clashed with protesters railing against President Emmanuel Macron's plan to require a COVID-19 vaccine certificate or negative PCR test to gain entry to bars, restaurants and cinemas from next month. Macron this week announced sweeping measures to fight a rapid surge in new coronavirus infections, including the mandatory vaccination of health workers and new health pass rules for the wider public. In doing so, he went further than most other European nations have done as the highly contagious Delta variant fans a new wave of cases, and other governments are watching carefully to see how the French public responds. -

ASU COVID Saliva test
I took my employee mandated COVID-19 test at 7:20 in the morning and recorded the process. Test result was negative. Transcript: Katy: All right, I’m taking my COVID test because ASU said that I needed to do it. It’s basically a saliva test. They give you a vile to spit into and a line that you have to meet. When I came in, somebody gave me the vile and wrote down my date of birth. I’ve got a straw. I’m just gonna fill this sucker up with saliva. -

Fighting Pandemics: Inspiration from Islam
In this article, various Muslims outline how their faith has guided them through the pandemic. For many, faith and religion have been their guidance through the COVID-19 crises. Unfortunately, the pandemic has restricted how Muslims have been able to practice their faith. While this article is specifically written with practicing Muslims as the target audience, one need not be of the Islamic faith to learn and appreciate how the faith can aid in our understanding of the world during the pandemic. -

Cover Up
HIST30060. When masks became mandatory, my family, like many others I assumed, scrambled to get some in time. Our first lot was made from fabric scraps by a clothing brand my mum liked, our second batch was made by a family friend before it was mandatory, and then from that point they came from all different places. I got some from my partner who had bought a few, my brother got one from school with "Class of 2020" when he finished his year 12 classes, my mum got some from work which are surprisingly soft. Masks seem to be a touchy subject among people and though I am not a very confrontative person, I will glare and stare at anyone not wearing a mask or wearing one incorrectly. They can be a bit constraining yes and if one has to wear it all day it would most likely be tiring and probably sweaty. I'm somewhat thankful that we had our lockdown largely during winter, when people weren't as itching to get outside as they are now that it's becoming warmer. If COVID-19 was at it's height during summer, I imagine a lot more people would have suffered, cause who would want to wear a stifling mask on 40 degree day. I don't know if masks will become a staple of winter times in Australia as they are in countries like Japan whenever cold season begins again, but I'm curious to see if all these masks were just for a pandemic people will only care about the next time a similar one occurs. -
