This news article from Laura Lollman of 3TV/CBS5 in Phoenix, Arizona, relays updated COVID-19 guidelines that Gov. Doug Ducey signed into place on March 25, 2021. These included a statewide phase-out of municipal and county mask mandates and prohibitions on new mask mandates; businesses may continue to require patrons and employees to use masks or face coverings; gatherings of more than 50 people no longer require permission from local governments; bars may fully open and choose to require patrons and employees to wear masks and social distance -

Slimy, Uncomfortable, and Antibacterial
I work at a bar in north-east Wisconsin. The stereotypes regarding the people of Wisconsin and their love for drinking and the bars are pretty accurate. There isn't much to do in the small town I live in besides that. When Covid began, people were most concerned with the bars being open. We were closed for a while as many devoted patrons, and the Tavern League of Wisconsin tried to fight the orders. We've been open now for several months and still most people that come into the bar do not take the virus or safety measures seriously. There's been times where customers tell me I don't have to wear my mask, or I don't need to wipe down their table, or use hand sanitizer as much. I am constantly around people at my job and risk a lot of contact with the public. I take the safety measures seriously and constantly use hand sanitizer. Since Covid, we have bottles of hand sanitizer everywhere, and now, because of the demand of sanitizer, we have strange brands made out of different products than I am used too. Every time I put on hand sanitizer it comes out all slimy all of my hands. It's incredibly uncomfortable and it feels like you almost need to wash your hands after to get rid of the gross feeling. But eventually it rubs in, and I go on with my job, only to follow up the uncomfortable sensation of slimy hand sanitizer with the complaints of customers who think the virus is fake and there shouldn't be any regulations in place that may hinder the bar experience. -

Support Your Local Auto Shop
With COVID-19 forcing numerous businesses across the nation to close, automotive shops such as this one in Wichita, Kansas, remained open during the lockdown, having been declared an "essential business" by Kansas Governor Laura Kelly's administration. Despite being open, local small businesses buckled under the strain of dramatically reduced customer traffic and revenue; a problem that still persists as Kansas, and the country, continue to face COVID-19's devastating physical and economic impacts. This sign along Tyler Road portrays one way that local businesses attempted to survive the economic malaise created by the virus's outbreak. As of May 4, 2020, the official end of Kansas's stay-at-home order, this discount appears to have been discontinued. Photo taken by Aaron Peterka -

On the Job
This is a picture of me at work at the Rotllies Pizza and Pasta. I work mostly as a pizza cook and sometimes I dabble at working as a line cook. We have taken many extra precautions at work to help stop the spread. Everyone has a mask and gloves on. If you have never worked an oven with a facemask on let me tell you it is hot. We are working hard to keep the doors open and the support from our local community has been amazing. While we have been fortunate other businesses have fared far worse. There has been many businesses that cannot keep the doors open. Others have tried to open back up with the help of the government loans. These are strange times and we got to stick together. -
