  Peaceful Protest Turned Violent

  In May during many riots in America, Des Moines, Iowa, had its share of violence. Over the course of a weekend the peaceful protests taking place at the time turned violent. According to different news programs and live videos on social media, they were trying to use minimal force and get things peaceful again. After there was a lot sit down talks with the protesters and the government. Many businesses were damaged, but there were also a lot of peaceful protests at the same time.

  Mayor of Phoenix in support of the movement

  This screenshot is a statement that was released by the Mayor of Phoenix during the Black Lives Matter movement. In this statement the mayor explains how she is on their side and supports the peaceful protests for social justice. She also goes on to explain that the groups that are rioting and looting the city are not affiliated with those who are peacefully protesting, those are two separate groups.

  Disneyland and Social Justice

  This is a tweet Disneyland made during the peaceful protests. It is them explaining that they are going to switch their famous Splash Mountain ride theme to a Princess and the Frog theme. This is because the original theme of the ride was based off the movie “Song of the South” which is racially inappropriate and now illegal to own or watch in the United States. During the BLM peaceful protests Disney decided it was best to erase any evidence of that movie and switch the theme of the ride to something more racially appropriate. This shows where the Disney cooperation stands on the subject of social justice and their support of the peaceful protests.

  Lucy Li speaks on her experience during the COVID-19 pandemic, including the cleaning ritual she has developed, her new recognition of the need for social interaction, remote work and school, and how the economy’s dip will affect her generation. She finds work-life-school balance, feeling stuck in her apartment, and connection with others challenging. She finds that nihilistic memes, social media management strategy, and park walks with friends keep her grounded. Li finds hope in community resilience.

  One Step At A Time

  Write a brief description of what you are submitting. This essay was produced as a part of the American Studies program at California High School in San Ramon, California. The essay is in response to the prompt "Is America currently living up to its core values?" This essay argues The United States of America is living up to its core values because we have had a breakthrough in equality even if you don’t think America hasn't changed since 1865. If we aren't follwing this value of eqauilty we are forsure on the right path because slavery historycally was just a little while back. And Individualism has carried the economy to be stable and maintain balance for The United States . It also includes references to the following modern events: Black Lives matter Act and the stand on wearing mask's in public during Corona virus

  Minneapolis set a blaze

  This is important to me because I feel like the genuine facts of the riots are looked over by Republicans and Democrats alike to sustain their respective narratives. My personal experience with this situation was first hearing the story of George Floyd and his tragic unnecessary Murder. That day I was glued to the news reading story after story. Then, right before I went to bed, I say this image above in video form and didn’t believe what I saw. People were running around in panic while others looted and set fire to buildings whether big construction sites or small businesses. Fear was induced in the people of Minneapolis as well as for me that the same thing would start occurring across the US, which it did. I also feared that fires and looting would begin to occur near my house in downtown Annapolis, but thankfully the only thing that occurred were peaceful protest which were very much so necessary.
