New Dog
In late March in the height of quarantine my mom saw a breed of dog that she really liked, a mix of an English sheepdog and a poodle. So, 5 weeks later, we headed into the heart of Appalachia to retrieve our puppy, Annie. Now, while this is a generic story of a family getting a dog, the only reason we went ahead with this was because everyone in the family had significantly more free time on our hands, as a direct result of the pandemic. Her arrival caused a shift in everyones daily schedules, and shows an impact of the virus. This is important to me because it is my new dog. -

Fighting Creative Blocks During Quarentine
Of course the pandemic hit everyone's motivation and zest for daily life pretty hard, but as an artist whose social circles are mainly comprised of other artists, I noticed an especially hard hit to the creative output of my peers. I've heard before that suffering and despair is supposed to bring out the best artists have to offer, but in reality the inverse is often true- Van Gogh painted the Starry Night while he was getting specialized care in a mental health facility, after all. It's hard to find your spark when it feels like the world is caving in on all sides, but I was determined to find a way to keep myself from falling into a months long creative drought I knew I'd find myself in if I didn't do something about it. I didn't have the energy or desire to touch full sized pieces, but I reasoned with myself that I could stand to go smaller scale to save on both energy and time without sacrificing the feeling of accomplishment that comes with a finished piece, and so the day before every non-essential business in town shut down, I ran to my local Michael's and picked up the cheapest acrylic paints I could find and 3 packs of six 2 inch square canvases. I tried to think of a subject that could easily be captured on such a small surface, but was also sure to spark joy in myself and perhaps others if i chose to share them, and landed on the topic of pets, since they were easily one of the biggest comforts for myself and everyone else I knew during our prolonged stints sitting at home. It was a good move, I think- looking at an an image of an animal for long periods of time never hurts your mood, and sharing photos of the finished paintings with my friends who own the animals pictured brought a boost of serotonin to both parties involved. More than one person suggested I start an etsy page and sell them, but I think I'm content to just let them be a quarantine hobby and act of kindness during a deeply depressing time. -

Pets and their effect during the pandemic
During the pandemic, to help deal with the new stresses my family decided to adopt a cat from a family friend. This animal actually helped to relieve some of the newfound issues that quarantine has brought on (fear, loneliness, etc.) . I feel this photograph is important because it shows a valuable tool that can help people to better make it through quarantine. It also helps to showcase the struggle I am going through in quarantine and what has helped to keep me going. -

While in Quarantine, Send the Dog for Groceries
We were stuck at home in quarantine during COVID-19. So this humorous video where the dog goes out to get supplies instead of the people who are safe at home! Then there was a follow up video of a large dog staring into the glass door captioned: when your dog gets home and see you sharing the supplies he bought without him. -

Cat Playing in a Box
My girlfriend was housesitting for a man who was unfortunately on a cruiseship when coronavirus hit, and he had to be quarantined on Rottnest island. This box was ironically holding toilet paper, but we repurposed it to be a cat café and wrote that he was only serving us takeaway due to COVID-19 restrictions. -

Finding the Silver Lining
On this Sunday I decided to try and take things slower and be thankful for every step. I was thankful for my breakfast, church online love stream, workout equipment I have at home, my family, the internet, lunch, and dinner. I was especially thankful for my little sister that is just a blast to hangout with. She is just able to be happy and positive during everything. Also, my dog has been in a really good mood as expected. I tried to be thankful and spend an extra minute in pray before I ate. I decided that after I worked out, I would read a lot because I am grateful that the library has set up a way to check out eBooks. I decided I would take advantage of that and try to knock down as many books I can off my reading list that I created a long time ago. I am going to try to keep this type of mentality for the rest of the pandemic and forward in my life. This could be a way to help the other things in my life that I cannot do right now because of the virus. *Original text of "Creator:" Nicole Dumitrascu #LSMS #NSD -

Quarantine Puppy
As the country started to quarantine and my family was stuck at home from work and school, we decided it would be a perfect time to get a puppy and keep our spirits up. This puppy is one of the main reasons I don't find myself bored out of my mind during this pandemic. She is a Golden Retriever puppy, 3 months in the picture, and her name is Sadie. #CSUS #HIST15H -

A Puppy's Lament
This is a photo of a puppy who looks completely done with everything. This photograph in a way tell the story of how during the pandemic there would be point of time where the only form of social interaction I have would be talking to my dog. Yet that was a reality a lot of people would face, where the people they would see on a daily basis they couldn't anymore so they had to talk to someone and that was there pets. -

China's Animal Shelters Can't Cope With the Number of Pets Abandoned Due to COVID-19
This is a story published by Time magazine. Due to misinformation and fear that COVID-19 could be spread via animals, a substantial number of pets in effected Chinese cities have been abandoned or euthanized. Animal shelters in the country report they are overwhelmed with the number of animals which now need care. Current research suggests that pets are unable to contract the COVID-19 virus, but fear and panic have gripped the citizens of the nation. -

Doggie Sundae
A local icecream shop called FRESH was one of few local shops still open in for more than just delivery. They had a service window where they still served icecream from while patrons waited outside. We had initially stopped because the shop had put out large bowls of water for dogs to drink while they were on walks. We stopped because the park close by had shut off the water to the dog water fountain. They also served doggie sundae filled with chilled peanut butter and dog treats in a convenient to-go container. Loki loved the treat and thanks to the water they left out he easily finished his walk without needing help. -

Petsmart moves pick up orders to curbside
Being an employee of Petsmart, I have seen changes in the way that we operation on a daily basis. One example is how we do online pick up orders. On March 21, 2020, we moved all online pick orders to curb side pick order. Pet parents pull in to the designated parking spot, call the store, and then the associate that was designated the curbside pick up orders for the day, would answer the phone. We must ask for their name and then indicate on the iPad that they have picked up their order. We have started doing this to lower the foot traffic in the store. This is something that not only us as employees have to get use to but the pet parents as well. -

Dog Days During the Coronavirus
This image depicts my dog, Jon Jon, laying on my lap at our home. He has been confused but happy now that we are home all day every day. He does not realize that anything is amiss, he is simply happy his humans are home to spend time with. He serves as a direct contrast to the panic that we humans are feeling in the midst of the pandemic.
