COVID-19 Advice on the Administration of Holy Communion
From the start of the pandemic, Christian churches have been debating about how to best handle the practice of the Eucharist (Communion). The Church of England, which spans all of the world, issued guidance on how to best celebrate/participate in the Eucharist. At the moment, the use of the common cup has been suspended. Parishioners during the pandemic are advised to only partake of the bread to avoid potential spread of the virus. These are general guidelines rather than strict rules, however, all Anglican churches are encouraged to follow. -

rules and procedures
Through coronavirus many more laws have been applied. You now have to wear masks whereever you go. Another rule is that certain businesses cannot be open to limit contact. There is new rules at school like which way you can walk so you encounter less people. -

An Absent Passion
This image that I uploaded is important to me because it represents a time, where we could play sports, interact with others, without having to take extra precautions, due to a pandemic. This object says that the pandemic took away many things that we care about, and forced us to live our lives with precautions. From personal experience, I remember playing with extra precautions before the pandemic was serious and before we were in lockdown such as little to no contact, always washing/ sanitizing, and no sense of any sportsmanship that requires contact. As the pandemic got more serious, playing volleyball was no longer a reality, but fantasy instead. I think these objects are important to me, during this time, because volleyball always has been an escape for me, even before the pandemic, and especially now with the hard times, it has helped me now. Volleyball has been helping me get through this time, and forget about all the malice of the world. -

Covid affects peoples lives
When there were more covid cases reported across the world my mom started taking all the precautions necessary to stay healthy. We do not have many family relatives so when we found out that my Aunt got Covid19 and she was in the hospital we were worried. I had only seen my aunt when I was little, but my mom had known my aunt her whole life. My Aunt is still in the hospital right now but we are hoping and praying she will become healthy and safe again. -

COVID 19: Symptoms
Although none of my friends or relatives has gotten Covid, I am very familiar with the different symptoms. According to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and prevention), most of the symptoms appear 2-14 days after you actually catch COVID 19. The symptoms for the Corona Virus normally includes the fever or chills, a cough, and shortness of breath or difficulty breathing. The list continues with fatigue/muscle or body aches, headaches, loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea/vomiting, and last but not least, diarrhea. Because all of my family members have practically memorized this long list, every time one of them gets a runny nose from allergies, they think "Oh no, do I have Covid? I am going to die!" ...only to remember that none of the other symptoms are appearing. Although I have taken MANY precautions that hopefully prevent me from catching the disease, I am still keeping an eye out for the symptoms, just in case. -

covid 19 symptoms
Some covid symptoms that i can think off are headaches and a fever. I also heard you get congested. I personally haven’t had covid but some of my friends and sister did. There symptoms and experience wasn’t too bad according to them but i know for elders and babies it can be fatal and very dangerous. That’s why it’s always important to make sure we stay safe about this virus and make sure to follow the right precautions just to make sure we are all safe. -

Rules and Procedures I had to follow
Throughout COVID my family and I have had to be very careful because my mom has bad lungs so she cant get the virus. We have made our own procedures off of what we know about COVID to prevent us from getting it. All of the boxes from shipping we get, we sanitize with rubbing alcohol and all of the food from the grocery store we do the same. And like everyone else in the world we are wearing masks and constantly washing our hands. I feel a lot safer from following these rules but at the same time I do get annoyed some times and wish I could just open up a box without having to sanitize it. -

cover origin
The first case I heard about this was back 2 years a go in December. I heard lots of theories the first one I remember hearing is that someone ate a bat and contracted this virus. I didn't think much of it at first but after time I realized how serious it is and how much it affects everyone in the world. My opinions on the virus have defiantly changed over time though, but I still manage to keep the same precautions and make sure to follow the instructed rules to keep everyone safe. -

Covid 19
In February I was doing what I usually do. I go to school and I play sports with my friends. The first time I looked at the news I saw something called the coronavirus. I didn't know what this was. It was new to me. The news showed that it was an illness in China. I didn't think it was going to be so big. It was just a normal illness in China. Until it spread to other countries. Then continents. It spread to Europe, then Australia, then eventually the USA. They started shutting everything down. I got a little scared but not as much. I still got together with my friends to play sports and hung out with them. Then they shut down the school. We had to do online school, but I got used to it after the first couple of weeks. Instead of doing sports in leagues, my friends and I would play in the park instead. The thing that affected me the most was I couldn't travel to Europe this year. If you wanted to travel in airplanes, there would be a lot of precautions and we would have to wear masks the whole time, so we figured out that it wasn't worth it to go and we would have to wait until next year. In conclusion, the coronavirus was scary at first, but after a month or two, everything went back to normal for me and wasn't as scary. -

東京534人感染 最多を更新 警戒レベル「最高」に(2020年11月19日) - Updated the highest number of infections in 534 people in Tokyo to the highest alert level (November 19, 2020)
This is a news that talks about the highest number of COVID cases in Tokyo. I believe this is caused by all the GO TO Travel which promoted people to travel despite being in COVID, and how all restaurants are open to dine-in and no one doing take-out. Also, Izakaya, a drinking/eating type of restaurants are usually have seats close to each other and do not have good ventilation. In Tokyo, 534 people were confirmed to be infected with the new coronavirus, which was a highest number for the second consecutive day. Tokyo has raised the four levels of alertness to "highest". Today, the number of confirmed infections (543) in Tokyo exceeded 493. This is the first time that the number of newly infected people exceeds 500 per day. The number of seriously ill people is 38, one less than yesterday. Under these circumstances, the city held a meeting with experts and raised the alert level for "infection status" to the most serious "infection is spreading" in four stages for the first time in about two months. In particular, Tokyo has stated that the number of elderly people at risk of becoming severe has increased significantly. (Governor Koike) "We are in a phase of rapid infection spread. We would like elderly people and people with underlying illnesses to refrain from attending dinner. Please avoid it." However, regarding the request to shorten the business hours of restaurants, she stated that "It is necessary to compare the effect of shortening the time with the negative effect", so we will not make that decision at this time. It's done: The NBA comes back on Dec. 22, a 72-game season
The NBA restart date is set Dec 22. The NBA playoff bubble was the most successful example of a sports handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. They shut down quickly and then created a lockdown bubble to handle the playoffs. I wonder if the NBA will be able to handle a whole season as effectively as they handled the playoffs. -

"How We Survive the Winter" - The Atlantic Monthly
As the winter of 2020 approached, James Hamblin, a staff writer for the Atlantic Monthly magazine, published a longform article providing readers with a comprehensive overview of the dangers the oncoming winter would pose during the pandemic. These dangers included, but were not limited to, rising infections (i.e. a second wave of infections), the lack of socially distant amenities (i.e outdoor restaurants and public parks) for people, rising rates of depression due to further social isolation, and the lack of proper ventilation in indoor areas contributing to further infections. These increased risk factors, according to Hamblin, will make winter one of the deadliest periods of the COVID-19 pandemic. Hamblin’s warning is supported by a resurgence in COVID-19 cases in Australia and South Africa, which at the time of the article’s publication was experiencing a Southern Hemisphere winter. To manage the risks associated with winter, Hamblin provides a list of actions that readers can take. These measures include accepting that the pandemic will not be over anytime soon, preparing for more lockdowns, and cancelling holiday gatherings involving extended families. Furthermore, Hamblin implores federal and local governments to establish testing infrastructure to track and contain COVID-19, which will minimize the infection and death rates. However, Hamblin notes that the Trump administration’s mishandling of the pandemic and misinformation of the public do not bode well for controlling the virus. In sum, Hamblin’s article provides a comprehensive overview of what informed writers thought of the dangers of the then oncoming winter of 2020, and what measures could be taken by the average person and the federal government to minimize the spread of COVID-19. -

Health Officials Agree With Protests.
This article is about public health officials urging people to join the fight for social justice. While the health officials state that everyone involved needs to be aware of the risks and take precautions, now is the time to demand change and join in solidarity with those affected by racial injustice. This post demonstrates that during the COVID-19 pandemic, health officials were agreeing with protests and the Black Lives Matter movement. This article is important because it demonstrates that social justice is needed yesterday, today, and tomorrow no matter what is happening. -

Election 2020
I have become very passionate about this years election, more so because I am hopeful that as a democratic country we can all elect to steer clear of the part we’re on. I was eager to vote but my husband was worried about COVID precautions and people not following guidelines. We walked into our nearest polling place yesterday and we’re immediately asked to put gloves on, masks were also required but gloves were provided. They told us not to touch computer screens without them. We were lead to sign in and our ballots were printed. Next we stood at the voting boxes which were six feet apart. Naturally I gave my daughter an iPad so we could vote in peace. In all I was satisfied with the precautions my local polling place took. I walked out feeling safe and hopeful. I voted for the future of the country and the sake of my children. COVID has put a pause on many things this year, I’m glad the election is not one of them. -

How covid separated us on a day we needed to be together.
One of the worst days of my life was July 26 2020, quarantine was definitely still relevant, but I acted as if the corona virus wasn’t a thing. I was selfish, I wanted to see my friends, but so did everybody else. Coronavirus had separated us from all the people we loved, the things that we loved doing, and I was unable to accept it, so i was selfish. I saw friends, I went out, I did things that would make me happy without realizing the major consequence it was going to have on my life. I woke up the morning of July 26 to my mom screaming, I heard her footsteps. Within seconds I heard my moms car door slam and she drove away. Very curious I got out of bed and walked down stairs only to see my dad sobbing in the kitchen. When I asked him what was wrong, he could barely get words out. All he managed to say was “jeff, he's gone”. I couldn’t believe it, my best friends dad, I grew up with him as if he was my own. I don’t remember life without him in it. My dads best friend for years gone in an instant. All I wanted to do was go over to the house and be with my best friend, but because I was selfish and had seen people, I was unable to go see them at the exact moment I needed to. In that second I couldn’t help but feel guilty, I saw people and was out almost everyday, and because of my actions I was not able to say goodbye to a person that was more than important to me. I could feel the heat rising in my face, I was angry. I was angry because God took such an amazing man too fast, but even more so, I was so angry at myself that I was selfish and was going out. This has been how the corona virus affected me, and now I have realized that my actions can severely hurt others. Please just stay inside and stay safe. -

My first restaurant experience
To everybody else in the world it was a normal day, but for me it was my five month anniverery with my boyfriend. Today we decided to have a dinner night, which was going to be the first time I have stepped foot in a restaurant since the pandemic started. As we entered the Forge Pizza Place in Danville I saw a huge sign that read “mask are madetory,” while the tables were spread apart completely. There was hand sanitizer at the enterence, which my boyfriend and I both used because we touched the door to the pizza place. While applying the hand santizer I could immediately smell the fresh pizza coming from the oven, while hearing fant voices around me. While we were about to be seated an old couple stood up and immediatey kept their distance. When we were seated the waitress had a mask and gloves on, while staying fairly far away from our table. We enjoyed our meal and applyed hand sanitizer on our way out as well. The whole experience brought me into reaiziation that each and everyday is a new experience that we shoud live to our fulest. Nobody could have expected the servity of the situation we are all facing together, therfore we need to take each day step by step. -

The Importance Of The Mask
The outbreak of the contagious Coronavirus, the government has issued us to all wear masks to combat the spread of the virus. The mask should be a basic precaution for outside activities in heavily populated areas. To me, the mask is a very important factor when it comes to public health and environment. Germs and bacteria should be kept to the carrier and should not be spread around. -

Policing the Plague
This is a photograph of myself that I took just prior to the service of a search warrant on March 21st 2020 in Salinas, California. The state of California was the first to issue a statewide lock down order due to COVID-19 and had done so just the day before on March 20th. Officers in my department were required to don our gas masks for the service of search warrants and other specific activities at this time due to concerns of contacting the virus. These specific gas masks are issued to be used in environments in which CS or CN gas is introduced. They are also designed to be effective in nuclear fallout and are subsequently extreme overkill in regards to protection against COVID-19 and additionally utterly unpractical for officers whom work 40 plus hours a week. The requirement to wear these masks was very short lived as we soon downgraded to surgical masks and cloth masks. Nonetheless, this exemplifies the fear that has surrounded COVID-19, especially in the early days of the pandemic, and the often drastic reactions we as a society have had in response. -

The Pandemic Lifestyle
When this whole pandemic started I was startled. I had to start living my life in paranoia. Everything I did had to be careful, safe, and with caution. Covid 19 has become one of the United states biggest worries. How do you know if your friend is sick?; but she is known to have severe allergies. How do you know if your father has covid?; but, he gets really bad back pains on a regular basis. All the common symptoms of covid are also regular issues in someone's daily life. Not knowing who's sick, who isn't, who carries it, who's immune to it, is very scary. Having to be quarantined for months just made me feel like I was being held captive. Not by choice but by demand. The fear of being sick and not knowing. Knowing that this deadly virus could have infected your neighbor who sleeps on the bed on the other side of your wall. This pandemic has brought me nothing but fear. Fear of dying, fear of being infected, fear of losing a loved one in the process. It all just comes down to faith. During this pandemic that's what I tried to have most of. Following precautions to avoid it, staying distant from my family, not going to the fun places i enjoy.School will never be the same. Having to do online learning is difficult. The focus is harder and understanding what's going on in class is frustrating. Not only that but civilians had to learn how to adapt to the new life. A mask became a part of everyone's daily necessities. Walking into stores without a mask is prohibited and even walking your dog now has an extra twist to it. Having to walk 6 feet away from each other has become a primary concern. While I was sacrificing my boredom other people were sacrificing their lives. Doctors, nurses, cops are all the important people who make sure our lives are safe. They put their lives in danger to protect our own by choice. While people complain about not having fun, workers are fighting for their lives everyday, and they may not even know it. They are at risk every step they take, out of their home, or office, or facility, wherever they are based. They are taking a risk to save civilians who can barely listen to protocols that are given. While people are complaining about not being able to go outside, they aren't wearing their mask. How do you expect for things to change if no one can make it better on their own? That right there, is a question you should be asking yourself. -

The Fight To Stay Healthy
This pandemic we are living in is like being in a black whole of the unknown. In some places people are acting as if it doesn’t really exist or that it doesn’t affect them. The truth is, it may not be affecting them right now, but it very well could be. The truth is, we know nothing. This period of time in our history is a different experience for everyone and people do not have any clue about what is to come. My experience of this time has been chaotic and an ongoing feeling of paranoia. My brother and I are both high risk for COVID-19. I have In 2013 at 2 years old he was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia; he is a childhood cancer survivor and is now 10 years old but will continue to need to be cautious and always aware of his health. The picture I have provided with this entry is one from a few months after his diagnosis. This is the picture that remain in mine and my family’s heads; our motivation to continue to be hyperaware of our daily routines and who we encounter. I am asthmatic and have continued to have a weak immune system and suffer from respiratory illnesses. Protecting ourselves, our family, and those around us is the highest priority during this time. We are taking precautions and rules from the CDC very seriously. This has been a season of fear, loss, and uncertainty, but it has also been a season of faith, curiosity, and new beginnings. I have also had some family friends and family members lose their jobs during this time. COVID-19 has not just affected people’s health but the livelihood of the normal we once knew. Moving forward people will either embrace that or fight against it. Even while embracing it my family and I will continue to be cautious with our interactions, where we go, who we see, and be empathetic tot those who have lost their lives and their loved ones. -

‘The likely outcome’: Trump’s COVID diagnosis followed waning precautions at the White House
This article emphasizes how current president Trump and the first lady has recently tested positive for COVID-19. The article’s main points include expressing the reasoning for Trump’s diagnosis and the precautions that are being held at the White House and across America. I decided to choose this news article because right when I read the title I became very engaged in wanting to figure out what the article was all about. After my reading, I was very glad I took my article to choose and read this one. This article constantly elaborated on the Covid-19 pandemic and revealed how Trump plays a role on how it affects people’s lives. Throughout the article I believe that it was a little biased. Although the article was expressing the facts of the situation it phased it in a way that put the president down. For an example, near the beginning it said “ from holding large gatherings to resisting masks, the president, his administration and his campaign have sent conflicting messages to the American public as they sought to portray an image of strength and normality,”. This part of the article indicates the bad of Trump right in the beginning. Also, towards the end of the article it mentioned that someone spoke saying, “it really ticks me off that we have a president who has failed to do one of the most basic thighs a president should do, which is keep himself safe, “. Although the point of the article was to announce Trump's positive test, it spent a lot of time bashing Trump for not wearing a mask, and holding gatherings that violated proper guidelines. For these reasons I do believe that this article is biased. In addition, the media holds a role in the pandemic, and this article can be an example. This article does elaborate on the facts but it expressed them in a very biased way that may convince people to blame one person or not grasp the entirety of the situation. In other examples the media can rather undermine or exaggerate the truth of the pandemic and the impacts that it holds. The media has shaped many major events throughout the world, and COVID-19 is definitely one of them. -

Masks, Floor Decals, Mute Buttons: How Schools are Scrambling to Open
The main point of this news article is to show how teachers and administrators are struggling to adjust to the new lifestyle of having school during a pandemic, while being safe at the same time. I chose this news article because as a student, it’s important to be aware of what you may have to experience when going back to school. Also, the precautions and safety nets that teachers are taking should be addressed because they’re putting in lots of work for students. This news article shows that the school lifestyle is going to change drastically for teachers and students due to the new learning spaces, social distancing, and hygiene necessities. Furthermore, this news article is important because it’s not evident on how long this pandemic may affect our lives, so the public needs to be educated on the situation that we’re going to be put in and may continue to be put in. There’s no bias evident in the article, however there is a perspective point of view from New York teachers and how they are forced to handle these harsh times. The responsibility of the media during the COVID-19 pandemic is to spread awareness on how everyone can be kept safe and that we must take extra precautions so we can go back to our daily lives and see students go back to school freely again. -

Flu Files October 6, 1918
Ciafone Flu Files While at first glance it may seem that the only commonality today’s society has with 1918 is the fact that both were host to infamous pandemics. It is natural to assume that in 2020 the numerous scientific advancements and technological achievements have equipped the world today better than those in 1918. However, this assumption is false. In fact, an analysis of a Chicago Tribune article from October 6, 1918, shows that society has been reacting the same to pandemics over a century later. The article analyzed was written by Dr. W.A.Evans, titled Flu Causes and Cure Analyzed by Dr. W.A.Evans (Evans 1918). Right away similarities between then and today are discussed in the precautions section of the article. The precautions warn to stay away from the sick, from crowds, and to stay in well-ventilated areas, similar to what experts stated today. It is eyeopening to read that even in 1918, it was understood how diseases are easily transmitted through close contact. An interesting takeaway from the article is the claim it makes to ease the reader’s nerves. It claims that while this disease is serious, but goes on to downplay it by stating pneumonia still kills more people every year. This irony is similar to how today, people downplay Covid-19 by stating the common flu kills more people a year. This shows that over a century later, we have a natural tendency to self soothe in this manner. The article goes on to recommend that everyone should medicate with Salicylates. This is derived from salicylic acid and used to make aspirin. However, this proved to be a deadly recommendation. A 2009 Medical article found that these aspirin regimens may have contributed to worsening the disease. These high doses of salicylic acid caused fluid retention in the lungs, hyperventilation, and pulmonary edema, worsening the chances of survival (Starko 2009). These regimens were heavily endorsed by medical professionals and the media. This recommendation and this article immediately precede the October death spike, demonstrating that there may be a direct cause and effect relation between the two (Starko 2009). This is similar to how today, President Trump endorsed the use of Hydroxychloroquine for Covid-19 treatment without it being based on actual research and people believed it. This shows that during times of high anxiety, people are willing to try any means to ensure their survival, especially when it comes from an authority figure. Additionally, it is surprising to see that this article states to take these recommendations with a grain of salt. These precautions will not be wholly effective and many people will contract the virus. The main reason to take these steps is to ensure hospitals and staff are not overwhelmed (Evans 1918). This is the exact goal of the precautions we take today. It was understood then that if our hospitals are over capacity, there is no way to overcome the pandemic. This puts on full display that while this was understood in 1918, we have made no steps to enforce this vital step. In 1918, masks were recommended and were effective which is why we still use them today. We also learned to stop using Dover’s opioid powder to treat pandemics and illnesses (Evans 1918). Despite this progress, society as a whole is still repeating vital mistakes. This article proves that history does repeat itself and if we do not begin learning from the past, this pandemic will never go away. References “FLU” CAUSES AND! CURES ANALYZED BY DR. W. A. A moment of Peace
I am one of the thousands of retail employees that wend back to work during the pandemic. One one hand I was grateful to be getting an income again but on the other completely worried about how customers would treat me with all the new regulations. Since starting back I've had quite a few interesting experiences. A man dropping his pants in the store since the fitting rooms are closed, argued with costumers to put their mask back on, and sat in the sweltering heat to have lunch since we aren't allowed to eat inside. But within all of the turmoil and uncertainty there are moments of peace. For me it was just a few days ago as I was going over the Card Sound Bridge on my way to work. I usually blast music to pass the time during the drive and that particular morning the bay was incredibly glassy. For a moment the music and the way the water made me forget everything going on in the world. It was if the pandemic and all other chaos in the world melted away and there were only things to be thankful for. Although we are far away from things being normal again that moment reminded me that through tough times there are still things to be thankful and hopeful for. -

My Mask Collection
I have decided to share a photo in contribution to this journal. The objects in the photo are some of the masks that I have obtained throughout the span of 2020 due to Covid-19. Masks are pretty much required everywhere now and are a daily necessity too. Because of this I have gained quite the collection of masks of all different types. I have masks in a variety of ranges too, from cloth to surgical masks. My favorite one being my Winnie the Pooh mask, it is very cute and helps me add some personalization to my masks when I wear them too. This photo is important to me because it shows to me how much this pandemic has changed not just my life but everyone else’s around the world too. A year ago I would have never thought that I would be having a mask collection and having to wear them everywhere from the grocery store, to church, and school. It just comes to show how much change can happen in just a year, and even in just a short period of time. I will admit one of the cons of having to wear masks everywhere is that personally I forget to wear it sometimes and then I have to walk by to my car again to get it. The way I see it my mask is basically like my phone now. I carry it everywhere with me and have it on me at all times. Thankfully it's not that bad of a burden although living in Florida it does get very hot underneath it with the heat. But in the end it's the way life is now and hopefully it's one step further to minimizing Covid cases and keeping everyone and myself healthy. -

Covid-19 in 2020
I am choosing a mask to describe my story because it is the most common item seen in this pandemic and it can easily be remembered through just one look at the mask. My experience throughout Covid has been rough, I personally have not had the virus, however I lost my job for months because retail is not considered essential, I had friends and family that were severely ill due to the virus and that impacted me emotionally. It has been scary, not knowing when this will be over or if we are doing right by still leaving our houses but it is not optional. Wearing my mask is important to me because it helps me feel safer throughout these times from the people who care slightly less. I feel like it does make a difference and it is important I continue to wear one in order to stay safe and feel better throughout these terrible months in hopes that soon it will be over. *This is a picture of a mask found in google mask, florida, scared, protection -

Things changed
Telluride, Co is my hometown. Being born and raised in this box canyon town I watched summers and winters bring many new and different tourist each and every year. Our towns economy was based on the coming and going of these tourists. Our summers brought thousands of festival goers, and our winters brought even more. Our town was essentially built on the money of the tourists that traveled there through the seasons. Being born and raised in this dead end town, I wanted to get out as soon as the opportunity was given to me, which is why I moved down to Florida for college. My first year in college was a huge learning experience, nothing was similar to the lifestyle of my small ski resort town. My second year in college was even more of a learning experience because during my second semester the coronavirus had traveled to the states and struck Florida hard. My mother lost her job because they had completely shut down that lead to her, my two younger siblings and I spending immense amount of time together. This wasn’t all that bad as we are were used to being together and had really only made our relationship stronger. Time started to fly by and before you know it it was summer, I wanted to go back to my hometown because I had greatly missed all my friends and had started to miss the view of the mountains. Without thinking twice I bought a plan ticket and went to telluride. When I arrived it was nothing I had seen or witnessed before. This oh so familiar town was not at all familiar. The towns main street was completely shut to traffic and instead filled with picnic tables at a safe distance. The restaurant on main steer had placed smartphone scanners to scan their menus to order food. Everything else was shut. In past summers this town was so packed that walking through main street was like walking through the festival itself. My summer was filled with either outdoor hiking, or staying inside lounging. Although it was a shock to see the effect of COVID-19 on my small ski town I was glad to see that they took everything very seriously in efforts to save the locals. Because when I came back to Florida, it was completely back into the full swing of things, like nothing had ever happened. I was crazy to come back and see people not social distancing, not wearing masks, and open for business. *Swing these signs when pulling up to the town reminded me just how fragile a small populated town can be in an instance like this. The town took the necessary procautions, and I was glad to see that many were still enjoying there summer while doing so. *hese photos are both taken from the town of telluride, Co. A small box crayon town, that had to put many protocols in place in order to keep the people of the town safe during the pandemic. covid-19, telluride closed down for summer 2020 -

Covid Halloween
This is a screenshot of a PVC project that I’ve started to see pop up on my feed as Halloween slowly approaches. People are getting creative in order to stay safe while still enjoying the holiday. I’m curious to see what Halloween will look like this year since it’s the unofficial start of our holiday season. So many would not have though that we would still be dealing with COVID and social distancing at the end of the year. HST580 Arizona State University -

「夢の国に帰ってきた」ディズニーランド&シー再開(20/07/01) "I'm back in the land of dreams" Disneyland & Sea reopening (07/01/2020)
This is a news regarding how they opened up DisneyLand and DisneySea after four months of closing. In general, everyone seemed very happy to open up and all the staff were following CDC guidelines. Personally I felt a little confused because there are still people suffering from COVID and opening themeparks just did not seem necessary at the moment. Translation: Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea, which had been closed due to the spread of the new Coronavirus, reopened for the first time in about four months on the 1st of July. At Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea, which have been reopened, the number of visitors will be reduced to about half and only for those who purchased a ticket with a specified date in advance. Visitors: "I'm so happy. I've been waiting for 4 months ... I'm crying. I've been patient for 4 months so I feel like I'm back in my dream world." "I'm so happy just to come to the park today. I want to have fun " After taking preventive measures such as temperature measurement, it will be open from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm for the time being. -

the handshake in jeprody
The story I wanted to tell was about something that is so common and frequent that it became extremely awkward and strange for me. This thing was the hand shake. Before covid hand shaking was a norm and everybody did it. It was the universal way to greet people in a polite and also professional way if you're working. But as Covid-19 came into the picture this norm would become altered and even disappear all together possibly. 2020 was going great until a virus in china was discovered and people started to die very fast shortly after. No one knew this mystery virus until a test came out that it was a very dangerous and deadly virus capable of killing people in days. The virus was only found in China but soon spread around the world. I live in america and as soon as this virus hit thing changed. The first thing was to wear a mask 24-7 when in public. Another thing that started to change that no one realized was the common handshake.due to the virus people became more scared to interact with people. This caused people to change their social behavior. One such example was when I was out with my family and friends. We were all going to meet some people and when we arrived I did not realize I went to shake the person's hand. As soon as i did that the person came back with sorry i don't want to shake hands. Then I went to another person and they were different. They were fine but did elbow bump instead of a conventional handshake. This change is greeting people became awkward for me because I had to read the person and if they wanted to handshake or do something else. There were times were i would think they were all right and then they weren't and the greeting looked like some twister baird with my hand flailing around stupidly with no motive. I became embarrassed and didn't shake or greet anyone after that incident. After this event I realized that the handshake kinda just disappeared and people did not want or even think of handshakes. covid-19 changed the social que for meeting someone to glancing at them and saying hi and that it. I can't imagine how awkward this is for businesses. From this experience I realized the hand shake might disappear altogether after covid or be much less the norm. Covid has had the power to restructure how we greet people and socialize by minimizing our interaction with others at just a glance. I hope the hand shake survives but if not the world will be very different without the handshake because it was such a norm in society for lots of years. -

A Twist on Desk Shields
This is the school my 6yo would have been at, if we had stayed in Idaho. One of the teachers got creative with the desk shields and decorated the students' desks to look like cars. The photo shows the students spaced a part wearing marsks and sitting behind their shields. It's so weird to see some schools already embracing in-person learning, when it feels like such a remote reality here in Tempe. -

Hospital Adventure
My sister has a special heart condition called Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. She goes to a special heart doctor that has an office inside of the hospital which we visit every six months. Normally if I am off of school I go with my Mother and Sister. However, this time we encountered problems: Dear Diary, Today my sister went to one of her Heart Doctor appointment. When we walked up to the hospital there were two security guards. One of them stopped us and asked who had the appointment. My Mother explained to him that it was my sister. The man then asked how old my sister was and my mom told him. Because she was a minor he said that my mom could go to the appointment with her, however I was gonna have to stay outside. My mom told the man that that was not possible. I myself am only 16 and would have to wait outside by the side of the street for at least an hour and a half. Eventually the security guard told us that it would be okay, and he walked with us past another pair of guards. So we were finally in the hospital. When we got inside there were two ladies that came to take our temperature. They then questioned us, and again we had to explain our situation. They didn’t let us by until we said which part of the hospital we were going to. We thought we were alright then, cause we had made it inside. But as we walked past the front desk, one of the men that was sitting there got up and stopped us yet again. We told the same story yet again! At this point we were close to being late for the appointment, and this was bad because it would take a long time to get another appointment. Finally he relented and we made it to the appointment without any more incidents. The funny thing is that, when we got to the office, they didn't say anything. They let me in without saying anything. -

Wear a Mask Including You Earth
I think this picture can be up for interpretation but I see it as all of Earth needs to wear a mask and be together in the fight for Covid because it comes for everyone. Simply put, we need to have a universal plan to fight this together. This is a drawing I found on the hindu.com -

The empty shelves
The COVID 19 hits the world like a disaster and caught people off guard. As a student, I don't need to go out a lot since all my courses switched to online modality. But there is only one exception, and that is to go out and buy food. Be sure to wear a mask and maintain a social distance every time I go out. Above all, it seems that the strains of the epidemic had spread. If you get to the grocery late, the shelves will be empty. Target and Trader Joe's, two of my most frequent grocery stores I usually go to, best represent this example. The sight of grocery shelves bare of food perhaps makes people’s hearts flurried. -

Kendra's life during covid-19
During the quarantine, I spent a lot of time practicing and making myself better at my sports that I play. I really didn't do the school work online, we had the choice to do the work or not and I decided not to. I practiced at my house, mostly by myself. I was very upset when the virus hit, school got cancelled, a lot of activities got cancelled. I was going to participate in track, but I could not. I couldn't see my friends, I could barely see my family. It was definitely hard but we all got through it. My mom didn't want to leave the house for anything, she went to the store every two weeks. She went as little as possible, trying not to get sick. I did know a few people that actually got the virus and they lived through it. They explained to us that it was very hard and difficult, but they did make it. No one in our family got sick, we used all of the precautions. We wear masks everywhere we go and wash our hands all the time. During school, I never take off my mask, and I always wipe off my hands. -

Peyton's Covid Experience
At first, I didn't think much of it. It wasn't too bad when I found out about it, but the virus was getting progressively worse. As we were leaving school for spring break, I expected to go back to school the following week. That is not what ended up happening. Cases were increasing, but I still wasn't very worried. I mainly focused on it being a risk mostly for older people, but younger people starting catching the virus. I never left my house except to go grocery shopping with my mom. My family didn't really take any precautions, we expected it to not affect us. My mom continued going to work when businesses starting shutting down for the time being. With being around the same people everyday, we didn't worry much. At the time, I was playing competitive volleyball. I still had about five or six tournaments left, but they all got cancelled. We were not able to make up the rest of the season, which was definitely upsetting. There ended up being a big party just outside of the town I lived in, and there were about 300+ people from my school and surrounding schools. It was not too long after restaurants and stores started opening back up along with sports activities. A lot of people ended up receiving the virus, leading to some restaurants to close one again. A lot of people from my school's cheer team had to be quarantined. Sports were once again shut down, waiting until the week before school started to start back up again. I was still involved in a summer league volleyball team, but we took precautions. We sanitized, didn't come in contact with the other team, and the spectators wore masks. It wasn't too much different, but school volleyball is going to be much different. There are a certain amount of people each player can invite, we have to wear masks on the bench (and while playing depending on where we are), and of course, spectators have to social distance and wear masks as well. During school when social distancing of 6 feet is not available, we are required to wear masks. There was an option of doing online school, or going in person. This is a picture of my friends and me during history class. -

New Norms in the Healthcare Environment
As the spread of Covid grew larger and larger, masks and face shields became the new norm at the hospital. New precautions included temperature checks at the entrances, reuse of PPE, and a completely new hospital environment. Whole wings of the hospital previously dedicated to elective surgeries were cleared out preparing for the surge. Patients were not allowed visitors and when they needed to see a friendly face the most, all they were able to see was our eyes. -

Root canal during the pandemic
On April 8, 2020, I had to have a root canal redone. I had been in self-isolation since March 17, and it was unnerving to leave the house to have this procedure done since I have asthma. Catching Covid-19 would not be suitable for me, so having to lay with my mouth wide open for an extended period was not ideal. Unfortunately, the procedure could not wait. When I arrived at the dentist's office, my temperature was checked before I was allowed to exit my car. I wore a cloth mask into the building where I was required to wash my hands before interacting with the staff. Once I was taken to the back, I had to rinse with alcohol-based mouth wash for no less than 30 seconds. During the procedure, the endodontist wore a face shield and mask. Air was circulated over my face and away from both the dental assistant and endodontist towards the open door. The procedure took about an hour since they chose to examine the failing root canal, refill it, and seal the crown all in the same day. Typically this would require two visits, one to check and refill the root canal and one to seal the crown. After the procedure was done, I was allowed to wash my hands before putting my mask back on and then rewash my hands before exiting the office. Once in my car, I used hand sanitizer before driving home. By far, the strangest visit I've had to the dentist, but they made sure to take every precaution they could to keep their patients safe. -

New Realities
When visiting my mother this weekend, we decided to take a trip to the gas station to get some drinks. My mom is immunocompromised and takes Covid-19 very seriously. She said if I planned on going into the convenience store I had to wear a mask. She keeps masks like this in the glove box as well as hand sanitizer in her car. She puts on the mask and sanitizer before she enters the store, and puts sanitizer on again when she returns home, before she goes inside. -

Being an essential worker
Being an essential worker Covid-19 otherwise known as the Corona Virus, has affected almost every single life in America. I remember when the virus first started nothing really changed for me or my job at the fast food restaurant, chipotle. Then slowly but surely things began to change in my job. At first less and less people were coming in to receive food, and I was given less hours. Then we closed our dine in option as did the entire state of Arizona. Our Governor Doug Ducey then released a stay at home order, but I as a fast food employee was still considered “essential”. What this meant was that I was still allowed to work, but at what cost. For many being allowed to work can be seen as a blessing or a curse. I was still allowed to work despite all the chaos happening in the world. Everyday more people were losing their jobs or just not working, but I, being an “essential” worker was still working. Things continued to change at my job as we were given questions on Covid-19 and are now asked every workday a series of questions to take precautions against Covid-19. We also now wear masks to cover our faces. Working at chipotle or any fast food restaurant is not the same. Covid-19 has changed the way we operate for a safer environment. This can all be seen as a positive turn of events for fast food workers and other essential workers. For we are being allowed to work. Also many companies are being more precautious in the way they handle things. At the end of this global pandemic perhaps all these changes will have been in a positive light. Overall, in my point of view I see this as a disadvantage. On one hand I am very grateful that I am able to work while others cannot, but I see the disadvantages outweigh the good. For example, the hours I received were already cut and I get paid minimum wage. One of my coworkers even jokingly stated he could make more money quitting and filing for unemployment. We are going to work while this pandemic is happening and are at a higher risk of contracting the virus than others. In the end, I do not believe fast food employees should be essential. This is because the pay simply does not account for the risk these workers are taking to serve food. That is why I am profoundly grateful for the real essential workers like doctors and nurses. -

Limiting the Line
Hmart is an asian market that carries a variety of food items popular in many different asian countries. It is one of my favorite grocery stores to shop at. It was also the first grocery store I have been to doing the pandemic that has i.plemented careful procedures for guest whose entering the store. First, the workers outside are keeping close count of how many people are in the store by monitoring the entrance and exit. They are also sanitizing all shopping baskets and carts at the entrance so guest don't have to touch them until after watching then be sanitized, and finally the store is giving plastic gloves to consumers who enter the store and do not have a pair. I also noticed while doing my grocery shopping that every single person in the store had some form of face mask on them, including employees. I know as time goes on more stores will implement similar policies, for now it seems like Hmart is adjusting well to the pandemic and taking the necessary precautions to keep everyone safe. Seeing this just confirmed why Hmart will continue to be my go to store for supplies during the outbreak.
