The Inhumanity of Zoom
With the increase in teleworking due to the pandemic has come an increase in Zoom meetings. These meetings have proven to be almost inhumane in my mind, as it's very difficult to communicate with others without nonverbal cues and people use the impersonal nature of communicating over a screen rather than in person to be pushy, rude, and self-absorbed. Although the pandemic will end one day, Zoom meetings will probably still be prevalent and lessons must be learned about how to make these meetings polite, uplifting, and productive. -

Shellsea
Chelsea Campbell explains in a textual conversation that small business struggle with both competitors such as small and big business. Small businesses have been emerging since COVID-19 has begun as a solution for those who have been laid off from their jobs. Chelsea helps to explore the idea that although this is amazing for the small business community it makes it harder for other competitors. Additionally, larger business are able to work around issues that smaller business face such as large shipping cost and difficulty receiving products as they the money and ability to resolve more issues then someone who is attempting to compete with those same standards. Chelsea explain although there is always more room for creativity and entrepreneurship she has had to adjust tactics to become more competitive with other brands even if this is a direct sacrifice for her business. -

Going Through the Motions
It was a Saturday night on December 12th 2020. Since about 10 months ago I, and most of the world have been experiencing the Covid-19 pandemic one way or another. I was reminiscing on what I have done in the last 10 months and sure, I have done lots of stuff. But none of it had any real value. I was just going through the motions. I can say that I think most of humanity is doing the same things I have been doing in the last 10 months. It is sad the times we are living but I still think humanity as a whole shouldn't just get lazy or bored. We should think about ways to invest in our time so we don't waste it. When we look back at this pandemic we should think "Wow! I was so productive in that time!" not "I did stuff I guess. I just wanted it to end." So I think humanity as a whole should look at ourselves and think, is this really what I want my grandchildren to remember? Us being lazy? The bottom line is that we should try to be productive and not just, going through the motions. -

Preparing for after the pandemic
When COVID shutdowns first occured, I had pretty good momentum going in all aspects of my life -- work, school, relationships, time management, and overall satisfaction that I was doing what I needed to do to succeed. The chaos associated with COVID kind of threw all of this into a storm, uncertaintly and doubt in many aspects. I assume that this was the case for many people, and we will never forget about the toilet paper shortage back in spring. However, as we have become acclimated to temporary health precautions, there are two ways that most people will transition from the virus difficulty to normalcy - farther along or further behind where they have started. Many take this time to do less engaging work, relax, and watch episodes of Netflix for hours on end. While this is perfectly acceptable, I chose to look at it as an opportunity to become a better person and hit the ground running when society is back to normal. This means sticking to a workout routine, learning how to cook among many other new skills, being more productive and working more efficiently virtually, and being a better academic. I believe that the pandemic was a great learning experience and it has taught me to deal with challenges in a way that I wouldn't have considered otherwise. -

Creativity In Solitude
Being in quarantine meant two things for me. First, my summer job as a camp counselor was shut down. Second, I was legally required to stay home. In short, I have way too much time on my hands. I have always struggled to find motivation, even for my hobbies or passions. But having so much time to spend helped me push myself to delve deeper into art, which I have been doing since I was a kid. My mental health improved with each origami or drawing, because not only did I feel productive and accomplished, but I also was finally bringing myself to pursue my hobby. Furthermore, with a close family friend of mine being treated in a hospital out of state, I have been able to write her letters accompanied by a small drawing or paper animal. Each week I make a new origami and drawing/painting, and each week she gets to open up a new set of trinkets to hang on her wall. I feel like I am doing right by me, but by her also. The mental health of the general public has taken a nosedive since the Pandemic began, so it helps me to know I am doing something useful to improve myself and others. -
