Star Wars Meme
picture showing a meme posted by Mark Hamill. It pokes fun at how ridiculous anti-maskers sound about having the right to not wear a mask. He calls on people not to be "maskholes" -

Rights were violated
Rights were violated I wanted to share this video for several reasons. The focus is on how the police responds to the deaf mother and 1) asks the twins so many questions in front of the mom who does not know what is being said here. 2) You never handcuff a deaf person behind their back. 3) The Americans with Disabilities Act was violated. 4) The cop got mad at Mom for not “listening to directions.” Really. 5) The deaf person is the one who is left in the dark literally. She is the focus here yet she does not know what is happening. Unfortunately, this is too common in deaf and hard of hearing people’s experience with the police. This should not be the common experience in dealing with the police. There are more reasons, but the point is… this is one reason why the deaf people are so hesitant about getting help/support from the police. I hope this video as traumatizing, becomes a lesson. Police reform is much needed in so many areas, including learning how to communicate & how to work with deaf and hard of hearing people, the DO’s and the DON’Ts as seen here. I hope to see more training with the police departments in understanding how to work with deaf and hard of hearing people. I pray for healing for Mom- @burgundre Drizzy, and her twins. You can go and support her as she fights this. Trigger warning here. Posted @withregram • @kelly4access 11 year old twin girls are forced by police (Michael Rose of the North Las Vegas PD) to interpret for their deaf mom and are interrogated while she is handcuffed. @burgundre recorded recorded her encounter on FB Live. Thanks so much @dpantv for working late in the night to make this accessible!! #asl #captions #signlanguage #police #discrimination #injustice #ada #policebrutality #whyisign #askmewhyisign -

Plan A Reopening Schools and Rights
This document from North Carolina Association of Educators is explaining the legal facts that educators have in my state when it comes to opening schools fully under Plan A. This document shows what legal protections we have and don't have as a state employee and how COVID-19 is viewed as a public health issue. It is important to note that as of right now most school districts in my state are not on Plan A which is 100% open but instead are either on Plan B or Plan C. Plan B is partially open/ online and Plan C is strictly online. Our governor is encouraging our schools to reopen and is opening more vaccine sites as teachers are next in line for the vaccine. This is important to document because every state is doing so many different things and people's rights vary from state to state. -

Covid Rules
We have been told to wear masks (which have been proven to work) for almost a year now, yet some people still believe the virus is a hoax and masks are taking away their rights. This is only making things worse. I'm not allowed to see any of my friends or family for all of our health and safety, yet I see kids from my school post pictures of them with big groups of friends and no masks! It saddens me that nobody is truly taking Covid guidelines seriously. -

Coronavirus and Activism
I belong to a local organization called the “United Neighborhoods Of East Boston”. We are involved in the fight for affordable housing. As soon as the Coronavirus hit our focus shifted to advocating for renters rights and an extended eviction moratorium. The online meetings were much different than the large, noisy events and marches we were used to doing. But, we were able to do one event in person, which is shown in the picture, where we were educating people about their rights as renters. It felt very different to be wearing masks, social distancing, and giving out hand sanitizer like it was water. -

ICE covid stats
ICE has been updating their statistics online for COVID cases. As of July 16, 2020, ICE says they have 22,340 detainees, 13,562 have been tested, and 1,110 are positive. It says they are either in isolation or monitored which is slightly confusing. If someone is positive and being monitored, are they not in isolation? Washington DC has the highest amount of cases. -

Fake “Mask Exemption” cards circulate on social media
Wearing masks in the US has become a political issue rather than common sense. It is fiercely debated, and many think it’s an infringement on their rights. One group has responded by creating fake “mask exemption” cards to present to people in public. -

COVID Protests
This is important to show that these protestors were not fighting for other peoples' rights to be equal, but to get haircuts and go to restaurants. -

DOJ Seeks New Emergency Powers Amid Coronavirus Pandemic
Almost everything has been effected by coronavirus and incarceration is no different but one request from the Department of Justice is exceptional. The DOJ has asked Congress for chief judges to be allowed to suspend court proceedings indefinitely. This would allow the suspension of habeas corpus - a defendants right to appear before a judge to seek release or bail - and would apply to criminal and juvenile cases. HST580, ASU -

Indigenous Peoples of Africa Co-ordinating Committee (IPACC) Statement on Indigenous Peoples of Africa and COVID-19
“The COVID-19 pandemic poses a great danger to humanity, including the indigenous peoples of Africa. If the spread of the virus is not urgently arrested and is allowed to infect African indigenous communities, the virus may decimate our member communities. Africa’s Indigenous Peoples are extremely vulnerable to the dreaded virus, owing to a lack of essential resources such as clean water, food, housing, medical supplies and even basic information.” IPACC is a network of 135 Indigenous peoples' organizations in 21 African countries.
